Christopher Eccleston Gets A Villainous Gig In ‘Thor: The Dark World’ Posted: 01 Aug 2012 07:57 PM PDT Due to his commitment to the NBC drama Hannibal, Mads Mikkelsen is unable to play the role of the villain in Thor: The Dark World. Luckily another actor has stepped in to fill his shoes. Christopher Eccleston will play the role of Malekith The Accursed in the upcoming film. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the casting along with the identity of the villain. Like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the answer as to who the villain was lied in the film's subtitle, The Dark World. Eccleston is best known for his roles in Danny Boyle's Shallow Grave and 28 Days Later and is known for being the ninth Doctor on the hit show Doctor Who [...] |

Posted: 01 Aug 2012 06:30 PM PDT The Shadow #4 Written by Garth Ennis Art by Aaron Campbell Colors by Carlos Lopez Letters by Rob Steen Covers by Alex Ross, Howard Chaykin, John Cassaday & Sean Chen Dynamite Entertainment Release Date: August 1, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 The Shadow #8 is a MUST READ issue!!! That is, if you like awesome comics, which I'm guessing a lot of you do. I really think that I should warn you, though. This is NOT a comic book for younger readers. In fact, I'd say you should be at LEAST 30 to read this comic. Seriously. Writer Garth Ennis delivers a knock-out issue, coming at you with guns (literally) blazing. In this issue he tells the story that Shadow fans have always wanted to read... as only he can tell it. Yes, some of us know the origin of The Shadow, but it's never been told quite like this. It's hard-edged, it's hard-core, it's magnificent. It's comics like this that make you go to the comic store every week. It's a great read, and not a short one, either. When reading this I was reminded of comics from the sixties, seventies, and even the eighties when word balloons took up more than half the panel. We really get a great sense of who both LaMont Cranston and The Shadow are in this issue, and both answers will surprise you. All in all, another gen from the creative team on this book [...] |

Comic Review: Spike: The Complete Series Posted: 01 Aug 2012 03:48 PM PDT Spike: The Complete Series Written by Brian Lynch Art by Franco Urru, Nicola Zanni, and Stephen Mooney Colors by Andrea Priorini, Andrea Tentori, and Fabio Mantovani Letters by Robbie Robbins and Neil Uyetake Cover by Jenny Frison IDW Publishing Release Date: July 31, 2012 Cover Price: $29.99 Seldom do I ever get to review things from the Buffyverse. And when I do, I relish it like nothing else. Spike: The Complete Series fits the bill just fine and was a wondrous read from start to finish. I'm not the biggest Spike fan, but this series might just have turned me around on "William the Bloody." So, like Angel in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Spike starts this book off with a soul. Not in the whiny way that Angelus had a soul. More of an "I'll still kick your arse to hell" kind of thing. With a couple of companions (Beck and Betta George) to ride this roller coaster with him, he takes on Wolfram & Hart, the notorious evil law firm. Taking place mostly in Sin City (Las Vegas) we watch as Spike and the gang run into problem after problem while trying to right wrongs in a city that has no respect for that idea [...] |
Watch This Video Detailing The Sounds & Music Of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Posted: 01 Aug 2012 03:02 PM PDT If you were the one of many who watched The Dark Knight Rises in glorious IMAX, then you may have noticed the genius music and the booming sounds coming from explosions, The Bat hovering over Gotham City, and Bane's terrifying voice. And all of that came together perfectly thanks in part to director Christopher Nolan, music composer Hans Zimmer, and sound editor/sound designer Richard King. Now Soundworks Collection has released a video of how it all came together and you can check it out below. King reveals that Nolan was playing this one pretty close to the chest, and went as far as not revealing the last few pages of the script to those who were involved with the filmmaking process. Despite not knowing how the film was going to end, King praises Nolan for being very involved with the science of the sound for The Dark Knight Rises. The sound editor also talked about how the different sounds pieced together the different elements (The Bat, Bane, etc.) of the film [...] |
Comic Review: The Bionic Man #11 Posted: 01 Aug 2012 02:00 PM PDT The Bionic Man #11 Written by Phil Hester Art by Ed Tadeo Inks by John Lucas Colors by Thiago Ribeiro Letters by Simon Bowland Covers by Alex Ross & Jonathan Lau Dynamite Entertainment Release Date: July 25, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 Bionic Man #11 is the TRUE test of this series. The adaptation of Kevin Smith's movie is over. The origin is done. From here on out, it's brand new adventures and status quo for Steve Austin and friends. So, does the book still hold up? First off, I can answer the above question with two words. Phil. Hester. It's PHIL HESTER!!! OF COURSE it's still going to be good!! I was very interested to see what would happen when Hester was allowed to create his own stories on this title - the result. Action, charm, heart, and one darn entertaining comic book. Some of the best comics that were ever written were HUMAN stories, they just happened to star a person that had a magic lasso, a magic ring, or could swing from building to building on a webline. This is exactly what we have here - a great story starring a man who's part machine. After 10 issues of Steve Austin ripping other cyborgs limb from limb, stopping airplanes with his bare hands, and other feats of bionic proportions, it's nice to see him with his family, and see how Steve Austin the MAN deals with the problems that they're facing. A well thought out, heart-warming story and a refreshing change of pace from the last ten issues [...] |
‘Paranormal Activity 4′ Trailer: Neighborly Dark Presence Slows Down Internet Connections Posted: 01 Aug 2012 01:00 PM PDT Just when you thought the found footage style would have overstayed its welcome, it finds a creepy way to stay in theaters. Up to now, we had no idea what the plot was for Paranormal Activity 4, but a new trailer give us an idea as to what it could be. The previous three Paranormal Activity films have always found creative ways to present the found footage shooting style, by utilizing various forms of camera technology. [...] |

Comic Review: The Lone Ranger #8 Posted: 01 Aug 2012 11:24 AM PDT The Lone Ranger #8 Written by Ande Parks Art by Esteve Polls Colors by Marcelo Pinto Letters by Simon Bowland Cover by Francesco Francavilla Dynamite Entertainment Release Date: August 1, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 In The Lone Ranger #8, the origin of Tonto continues. But let me forewarn you, it's not pretty. At all. Nor should it be. I mean, this IS the old west we're talking about. After reading two issues of this title that revolve around Tonto, I can honestly say that I would read a Tonto solo title. Writer Ande Parks is up to his old tricks again - writing awesome comics! This issue, as we get further into the "current" storyline (but not by much), we learn the next installment of Tonto's origin. This is a GREAT comic. A great, well thought-out story, but I have to say, it's a little on the heartbreaking side. After reading the last issue, you pretty much knew that Tonto wasn't going to up and say to his family "OK, I'm going on some adventures," but it doesn't make it any easier to read. And therein lies the brilliance of Parks writing. I've know these characters for all of two issues, more like one and a half actually, and I was terribly sad when they met their fate. Parks does a fantastic job of making you care, one was or another, about every single character in this book. Another great issue written by Parks [...] |
Get Caught Up On NBC’s ‘Grimm’ With This Season 1 Recap Posted: 01 Aug 2012 10:16 AM PDT It's hard to believe, but the Fall TV season is rapidly approaching. Some series are premiering a little late this year, but not all of them. NBC's Grimm is taking advantage of the lack of competition by returning in the middle of August! What? You haven't checked out the show before? It was a surprise success for NBC last season. It had several road blocks in front of it; it's a genre show, and it was aired on Friday nights to name just a few. It's not too late to check out this fairy tale-driven series. We have a season 1 recap for you so you'll be all caught up for the August 13th premiere [...] |
Posted: 01 Aug 2012 09:08 AM PDT Think Tank #1 Written by Matt Hawkins Art by Rahsan Ekedal Letters by Troy Peteri Covers by Rahsan Ekedal, Brian Reber, Bagus Hutomo Created by Matt Hawkins and Rahsan Ekedal Top Cow Productions, Inc. Release Date: August 1, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 We've all probably crossed paths with the type of person who's an absolute genius who just skates through life. These slack-offs are dangerous friends because they suck you into their whimsical little world filled with awesome, irrelevant distractions. Next thing you know it's the end of the semester; you've goofed off all year and now you have to beg your Geometry teacher not to send you to summer school while Albert Einstein over there inexplicably passed with flying colors. Ahem, I digress. We, the idiots of the world, harbor a little deep-seated bitterness. For what it's worth, Dr. David Loren, the main character in Think Tank, likely makes any so-called genius who you know look like a douche. David graduated with a PhD from Cal Tech and is scientist at a DARPA-run think tank. There he dabbles with inventions like mind-reading devices, invisibility suits, and portable EMP bombs. An avowed slacker, David just rests on his laurels after inventing the Predator drone algorithm. Colonel Harrison, David's gruff, all-business, supervisor, gives him a stern warning to start producing results. After brushing off the threat, David decides to follow-through on one of his half-assed and half-finished ideas. Well, half-assed by his standards, anyway. This invention leads to a great cliffhanger that will definitely hook you in for next issue [...] |
