Genesis Platinum

This week, the Genesis 40-track compilation Platinum Collection is on sale for only $5 in MP3 format.

This 2005 compilation from the prog-rock group of Phil Collins, Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford (and with early frontman Peter Gabriel) features tracks from every single studio album in their decades-spanning career, and is the most comprehensive collection to date. It covers everything from the bold, early concept work featuring Peter Gabriel, to the regrettably pop-infused later work that predominated the Phil Collins-era. This is very nearly the perfect set for anyone just getting into Genesis or prog-rock bands in general. At $5.00, you really cant go wrong. You save $31.63 over buying these 40 tracks individually. It boils down to about $0.13 a track. What a deal!

DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffery Katzenberg Inks New Partnership With Fox

Posted: 21 Aug 2012 06:18 PM PDT

DreamWorks Animation

Rise of the Guardians will be DreamWorks Animation's final animated feature over at Paramount. The two companies have worked together on films like Kung-Fu Panda, Shrek, and How To Train Your Dragon. With the deal between the two set to expire later this year, Paramount is moving forward with their own Animation department and DreamWorks Animation has set up a new partnership with 20th Century Fox.

Don't worry about the other animated partnership between Fox and Blue Sky Studios (Rio Ice and Ice Age). Apparently that is safe and secure. The most interesting thing is that Fox will now be the home of DreamWorks Animation projects as well. According to Deadline, the new deal says that DWA is now locked in to produce animated features for Fox until 2017. Fox will receive 8% of the earnings made from theatrical and dvd sales, but they will earn a lower amount from digital and other forms of distribution [...]

Paul Thomas Anderson Addresses Controversy Surrounding ‘The Master’

Posted: 21 Aug 2012 05:22 PM PDT

The Master

The Master is proving why its one of the most highly anticipated films of the year with each and every new teaser release. Not only that, but select cities have been able to see advanced screenings of the film, and let's just say they are overwhelmingly positive. But before the film can make its official debut to the public next month, the film's director, Paul Thomas Anderson, shared a few thoughts on his latest directorial effort. There's also a new clip that has been released and it reveals the newest city to get an advanced screening of the film.

Check it out below.

In an interview with NewsWeek magazine (via Collider), Anderson acknowledges the rumors he's heard about The Master being about Scientology. Although the film's key character (Philip Seymour Hoffman) is based on L. Ron Hubbard's founding of Scientology and the influence it has on its followers, the film is not about the religion entirely. In fact, it wasn't his intention to create the real life story of L. Ron Hubbard [...]

Universal Courting Jim Carrey For Supporting Role in ‘Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall’

Jim Carrey May Star In Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall

Now that Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall is scheduled for summer release next year, production for the film is shortly getting underway. The cast, however, continues to grow. Recently John Leguizamo, Donald Faison, Morris Chestnut, and Robert Emms all have been cast in key roles, but Universal is looking to add another big name to the casting sheet.

Deadline says that the studio has been courting Jim Carrey for a "showy" supporting role in the film. According to the site, Carrey would play The Colonel, a hero who "helps galvanize the team of misfit super heroes assembled to fight evil." [...]

Movie Review: The Woman In The Fifth

The Woman In The Fifth movie poster

The Woman In The Fifth
Amazon Instant Video | DVD
Directed by Pawel Pawlikowski
Starring Ethan Hawke, Kristin Scott Thomas, Delphine Chuillot, Joanna Kulig and Samir Guesmi
Release Date: June 15, 2012

Ethan Hawke has become a regular sighting on the Parisian streets. He charted the narrow cobblestone streets endlessly while in intimate and deep conversation with his co-star Julie Delpy in Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, two films remarkably adept at capturing the many facets love is capable of possessing. Seeing him stroll idly and lonely around the not-so touristic venues in The Woman In The Fifth is welcomed and appreciative in the sense that it strips away all romantic notions attached to love and replaces them with disquieting notions that paint love and romance in a negative and perverted light. Though not apparent initially, the film, through Hawke's character, navigates through a throng of squalid and empty relationships.

Polish director Pawel Pawlikowski (he also wrote the film's screenplay based on Douglas Kennedy's book) shows us a Paris that is extremely contrary to the one that has been conventionally conveyed in an infinite number of hapless films. Cafes are decrepit, some apartments are illusory, and others exude grotesqueness. This extreme break allows audiences to be unaware of where this film will finally end up. Constantly unfamiliar with the dilapidated Parisian surroundings this film presents, audiences then expect a different kind of narrative to unravel about love and loss [...]

Kevin Costner To Appear In Jack Ryan Reboot and Its Spin-Off ‘Without Remorse’

Posted: 21 Aug 2012 01:27 PM PDT

Kevin Costner

There may be more to the untitled Jack Ryan reboot than we originally thought. Paramount has set the reboot to be a trilogy with Chris Pine and Keira Knightley all reportedly locked in a three-film deal. But some of the supporting cast members may prove that there are deeper layers to the Jack Ryan storyline.

Kevin Costner will star as the agent Jack Ryan reports to in the upcoming Kenneth Branagh-directed film, but he appears to be a part of a bigger picture. According to Deadline, Costner will also appear as the same character in the Jack Ryan spin-off Without Remorse. Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher) has rewritten the draft for that film and is now ready to direct. And just to make things a little bit more interesting, Paramount is now courting Tom Hardy for the lead role for Without Remorse [...]

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN-PART 2 banner

So, it all ends here with the final chapter in the epic (or not so epic depending on your opinion of these films) story of Bella (Kristen Stewart) and her journey into vampire-ness. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 also stars all of the usual suspects including Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, as well as newcomer Maggie Grace. This film centers on the newest edition to the Cullen family, Renesmee. Love it or hate, we have new stills from the upcoming film!

The film is set to hit theaters everywhere on November 16th. No matter what you think of this franchise, there's no denying that this final film will be one of the biggest movies of the year. Check out the images here below [...]

Watch Now: Gag Reel and Deleted/Extended Scenes From ‘The Avengers’ Blu-ray

Posted: 21 Aug 2012 10:40 AM PDT

The Avengers

We've still got a month to go before Marvel Studios' billion dollar blockbuster The Avengers hits home video, so to whet our appetites until then, I bring you a preview of the movie's Blu-ray bonus features in the form of an uproarious gag reel, deleted scene, and extended scene.

You can watch all three videos here below.

The gag reel is your usual collection of on-set goof-ups and crack-ups, but it has a metric ton of bleeped swearing and a great (and hilariously unexpected) use of Jerry Reed's Smokey and the Bandit theme "East Bound and Down." The two scenes of additional footage are extensions of scenes already in the movie. We get a few more funny bits with Mark Ruffalo's Dr. Bruce Banner and a sweet-natured security guard played by the great character actor Harry Dean Stanton. Finally, there's some more interaction between Barton (Jeremy Renner) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) from earlier in the story. They're both nice beats but their deleted from the final film is understandable.

The Avengers debuts on Blu-ray, DVD, and four-disc combo pack on September 25, 2012 [...]

Media Rights Capital Close To Distributing Ron Howard’s Ambitious Adaptation Of ‘The Dark Tower’

Posted: 21 Aug 2012 09:16 AM PDT

The Dark Tower

Yesterday we reported that Warner Bros. had passed on Ron Howard's adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower. Howard, who has been courting Russell Crowe (who previously starred in Howard's A Beautiful Mind) for the role of the Gunslinger, a role that was previously bestowed to Javier Bardem when that project was being shopped at Universal. So with two studios having already passed on The Dark Tower, some might think that this project may be too much to handle.

After all the deal does call for the adaptation to start off as a film, then switch over to the small screen for a short televised series run, then turned back into a movie finale. The financial implications would hurt the distributing studio if the first part of the planned adaptation failed. So it's really no surprise that the studios didn't want to take the risk. Well you might think that other studios might not want to even touch this project with a 10-foot pole, but Media Rights Capital has stepped in as the next studio hoping to make Howard's dream come true [...]
