Creedence Clearwater Revival is one of those bands where you might think you don't know their stuff, but you totally do. Chronicle: 20 Greatest Hits is a healthy dose of CCR, and at 4 bucks, you can't beat it. Get this deal today, but be sure to also browse all 1,000 albums on sale this month for only $5 each [...] |

$5 MP3 Album Deal: The Smashing Pumpkins ‘Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Posted: 26 Aug 2012 04:30 PM PDT As part of Amazon's monthly $5 MP3 album deals for August 2012, The Smashing Pumpkins' Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is on sale for only $5. If you would like a physical copy of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, the CD is available for $16.99. Released in 1995, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness was the third album by The Smashing Pumpkins. This ginormous double-album (the CD version comes on two discs and the vinyl on three records) runs the emotional gamut from melancholy soft rock slow jams to fierce rage-fueled speed metal. Frontman Billy Corgan was once quoted as saying Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness was meant to capture the turmoil and angst he'd felt as a teenager but couldn't articulate until adulthood. Eh, I say buy it for the catchy radio hits you remember fondly, such as "Bullet With Butterfly Wings," "Zero," and "Tonight, Tonight," but love it for the lesser known (but no less rockin') tracks you had no idea even existed. At $5 for nearly two hours of great music, you really can't get hurt. Browse the main sale page to see the other 999 albums on sale for only $5 each in MP3 format through the end of August 2012 [...] |
Star Wars Celebration VI: Cosplay Roundup Posted: 26 Aug 2012 12:17 PM PDT Other than basking in the glory of all that is Star Wars, one of the highlights of attending Star Wars Celebration is to just kick back and take in the amazing work that fans put into their costumes. At Star Wars Celebration VI this weekend, fans were given the opportunity to meet Star Wars legends such as Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Timothy Zahn, and some dude named George Lucas even made a surprise appearance. The convention also gave attendees exclusive looks at Star Wars: Attack of the Clones 3D and the upcoming season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Here's some of the best cosplayers we found just browsing the aisles of the convention's main floor. Included is a picture of Dude Slave Leia. Carrie Fisher personally requested a picture with this guy. I captured a picture of him right after it happened. What you are witnessing in that single photo is the greatest moment of a man's life [...] |
Short Cyberpunk Film Review: ‘Ninety Seconds’ Posted: 26 Aug 2012 10:00 AM PDT Ninety Seconds Directed by Gerard Lough Written by Gerard Lough Starring Andrew Norry, Michael Parle, Claire J. Blennerhassett Arcadia Films Release date: August 9, 2012 (limited) The first thing we see in George Lough's latest thrilling cyberpunk short film, Ninety Seconds (watch the trailer below the article), is this quote: "The instrument could be dimmed, but there was no way of shutting it off completely." The quote is from George Orwell's book 1984, which taught us how "Big Brother is watching you" via two-way screens everywhere. So, we have an idea of the uncomfortable places Ninety Seconds may take us. We're instantly intrigued by its darkness shot through with cool music, nifty graphics, and well-placed blindingly bright lights. Set in the not-so-distant future just after a very real-life scandal involving celebrity phones being hacked by unscrupulous (the film uses the word 'desperate') journalists, the film's premise is that this scandal gives birth to a whole new breed of private investigators called Techs [...] |
$4 MP3 Album Deal: Pink Floyd ‘Wish You Were Here’ Posted: 26 Aug 2012 08:48 AM PDT Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here is on sale today in MP3 format from Amazon for only $3.99. The album, which was their follow up to their enormously successful 1973 release Dark Side of the Moon, is almost as revered by fans of the group as Dark Side is. Originally released in September 1975 and going to the top of the charts on both sides of the Atlantic and around the world, Wish You Were Here explores themes similar to Dark Side: alienation, confusion, longing, mental breakdown, and also even dissention in the music business. It's also a tribute of sorts to one of their founding members, the late Syd Barrett, who had left the band a few years earlier due to mental illness. The long track "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" is a recorded nod to their fallen member, who had also made a few unannounced appearances in the studio when they were recording the album. That track opens and closes the record. The other tracks are equally memorable as well, the sing-a-long dark, doomy title track of longing and hope; "Welcome to the Machine" with its spacey, synthesized feel; and "Have A Cigar," with guest vocals by Roy Harper and which actually sounds rather upbeat and contrasts the rest of the record nicely, acting as almost a rest stop between all the amazing heaviness and rocking ambiance which bookends it. Every record Pink Floyd released during the 1970s is essential and Wish You Were Here is no exception. A must. Get this deal today, but be sure to also browse all 1,000 albums on sale this month for only $5 each [...] |
