$5 MP3 Album Deal: The Guess Who ‘American Woman’

Posted: 29 Aug 2012 08:53 PM PDT

The Guess Who

American Woman, by the classic rock group The Guess Who, is now available on MP3 format from Amazon this month for only $5.

Released in 1970, and spawning the number one smash hit title track, these Canuck musicians from the Great White North rock, roll, take it up several notches, and take it down several notches on American Woman. Led by the one-two punch of elastic voiced singer Burton Cummings and the snarling, barking dog guitar prowess of Randy Bachman, the album offers much variety in the hard rock/soft rock genre. Popular favorites "No Time" and the shimmy sway of "No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature" are here, but fans only weaned on a diet of the band's greatest hits are urged to check out some of the lesser known tracks on the album, like "Proper Stranger," "8:15," and "Talisman" among others.

Comic Review: Double Jumpers #2

Action Lab Comics: Double Jumpers #2

Double Jumpers #2
Written by Dave Dwonch
Art by Bill Blankenship
Action Lab Comics
Release Date: August 29, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

Double Jumpers #2, just like the previous issue, is a LOT of fun. Yes, it caters to the "geek" crowd, maybe a little too much at times, but it's still a great read that'll have you cracking a smile at least a half dozen times before you've finished the issue.

Writer Dave Dwomch doesn't let up in this second issue, he makes it as fast paced and entertaining as the first. While this book is 99 percent humor, it's got some heart to it as well. In this issue, the characters really open themselves up and you see there faults, strengths, and you actually start to FEEL for them. More than just a laughable "I can't wait to see how they screw up next," Dwonch really puts some thought into where these people are going and where they've been. Some really good human story mixed with a TON of humor [...]

Watch Aubrey Plaza Cross Off Risque Acts In Red Band Trailer For ‘The To Do List’

Aubrey Plaza In The To Do List

The trailer for The To Do List opens with Aubrey Plaza sarcastically pitching that the film is not like any ordinary rom-com that generally finds an ensemble cast playing through a stale plot. A few seconds later into the trailer and we start to see that she isn't lying at all. The first red band trailer for Maggie Carey's The To Do List has arrived online and it has a chance to be one of the best comedies of 2013. So check out the NSFW red band trailer below.

Carey may not be a household name, but you may have seen her works on NBC's Parks and Recreation and Funny or Die. The To Do List focuses on Brandy Klark (Aubrey Plaza), A-Type personality high school senior creating a list of risqué acts that she missed out on and intends to complete before she sets off for college [...]

Michael Keaton Image

Those who had been slightly turned around on the decision to remake the sci-fi classic RoboCop thanks to the very impressive cast that had been assembled were again disappointed when it was announced that Hugh Laurie, who was once in talks to play one of the film's villains, had departed the project. But now it looks like an equally appealing name will be stepping into Laurie's villainous role.

It's being reported that the great Michael Keaton has joined the cast, where he'll play the not-so-friendly CEO of the company that builds RoboCop. [...]

We see Cap going about his everyday life in the modern world: pining for his lady love Peggy, riding the subway, and flirting with a coffee shop waitress (Ashley Johnson) who was briefly glimpses being saved by Captain America during the final battle with Loki and the Chitauri. This deleted moment also provides us with a brief look at the MetLife building that was replaced digitally in the final film with Stark Tower, which Steve can be seen sketching during his conversation with the waitress, as well as yet another priceless cameo by the Man himself, Stan Lee [...]

In his directorial debut, English actor Paddy Considine serves up the indie drama Tyrannosaur; a wonderful but gritty film that follows the lives of two people and their fates as their paths cross. With an intense storyline with some incredible and emotional punches-to-the-gut, along with some of the most straightforward and brutal performances you will see in a long time, Tyrannosaur is not just a good movie, it is a must-see experience.

Tyrannosaur shadows the journey of two individuals, both wrestling with darker sides of the lives, and what happens when they cross paths. [...]

Comic Review: Skullkickers #17

Skullkickers #17

Skullkickers #17
Story by Jim Zubkavich
Art By Edwin Huang & Misty Coats
Cover By Saejin Oh
Image Comics
Release Date: August 29, 2012
Cover Price: $3.50

By the fifth issue of a Skullkickers story arch, typically, you should be knee deep in blood and guts. This most recent Skullkickers story arch however, has been relatively tame, or at least as tame as this comic can be. It's not that there hasn't been a fair share of violence and mayhem. It's just that no one has been stabbed in the eye, disemboweled, or blown up in some sort of sorcery/dynamite related explosion. Violence plays a big role in Skullkickers and not seeing it run rampant through every page and panel is strange. That's not to say that this hasn't been a fantastic run of Skullkickers. These last four issues leading up to Skullkickers #17 have introduced readers to deeper three-dimensional characters and a more realized fantasy world.

Skullkickers #17 can be reviewed easily in a sentence or two. This issue is a satisfying end to a fantastic storyline full of all the action and crude behavior expected from this comic. However, to judge this comic 100% accurately you really have to take a step back and view this story arch as a whole. It's not easy to take a comic that has been traditionally known for being bat shit crazy-violent and slow that action down to a crawl. It was needed though, Skullkickers main protagonists have been kicking and bashing for 17 issues now and while that is fine and well, at some point we need to get under a character's skin. Luckily, this story arch and issue #17 have really done a terrific job of fleshing out everyone's favorite skullkickers [...]

GoD List Banner

Each and every week "No! No! No!" MK2Fac3 and "Lord Mackleroy" Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn't? So, let's take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we'll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of August 29, 2012. While off at wrestling bootcamp, I learned a many things. I learned the art of the double turn, how to properly hip toss my opponents, while transitioning into the "No Lock." Yes, I learned a lot of things, but the one think I didn't learn was how to manage my time properly. Still working on that, but until then, let's talk about some comic books since that's what you're all here for. Ladies and gentlemen, this ain't ballet! This... is... THE GoD LIST!!! [...]

Countdown To Doctor Who: Actors With Roles In Both ‘Doctor Who’ and ‘Star Wars’ [Infographic]

Doctor Who Star Wars

Thanks to my DVD subscription to Netflix, I've had the splendid opportunity over the last couple of years (as other fans have no doubt) in being able to rediscover and revisit some episodes of Classic Doctor Who, some of which I've not seen in decades.

In the course of these nostalgia trips, I began noticing that there were quite a few actors who were popping up in many of the classic serials that had also played a role in some of the Star Wars films. On top of that, there has been some Star Wars actors show up in the new series as well.

About a year ago, I came across a few submissions at the Doctor Who Subreddit over at Reddit.com – notably this one and this other one – showing the crossover of Doctor Who actors who had also been in Harry Potter.

Consequently, in the lead-up to the premiere of Series 7, I decided to put together a bit of a timey-wimey infographic matrix thingy that looks at the crossover of actors between Doctor Who and Star Wars. Hope you like it, and feel free to let us know your thoughts in the comments below [...]
