$5 MP3 Album Deal: The Yes Album & Tales From Topographic Oceans Posted: 31 Aug 2012 05:50 AM PDT Two totally awesome albums from the band Yes -- Tales From Topographic Oceans and The Yes Album - are available right now on MP3 format from Amazon for only $5 each! First off, let me say that neither album contains their super-mega totally non-representative of them hit "Owner Of A Lonely Heart." If that's all you know from Yes, then you have a lot to learn. If you know a little about Yes, then you're probably familiar with songs on The Yes Album like "I've Seen All Good People," "Starship Trooper," and my favorite "Perpetual Change." Every song on the album is great and is highly recommended listening. Now, if The Yes Album is prog rock at its finest, then Tales From Topographic Oceans is prog rock at its most elaborate, with 20-minute tracks! There's no "singles" on this record, you gotta listen to it straight through, preferably in a black-light lit room (basically, the same way you'd listen to Pink Floyd). My favorite on Topographic Oceans is by far "The Revealing Science Of God" - can't get enough of it! Browse all 1,000 albums on sale this month for only $5 each [...] |

Posted: 30 Aug 2012 07:45 PM PDT Star Trek #12 Written by Mike Johnson Art by Claudia Balboni Colors by Arianna Florean Letters by Neil Uyetake Creative Consultant Roberto Orci Editor Scott Dunbier Cover by Claudia Balboni IDW Publishing Release Date: August 22, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 Star Trek #12 is the finale to the two-part Tribbles story line. Yes, I'm sure you're all familiar with the OLD or CLASSIC "Trouble with Tribbles" story. You even know that Captain Sisko & company revisited that episode in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. But, as they say, this ain't your father's Star Trek! Writer Mike Johnson puts a WHOLE new spin on the Tribbles tale, one that is probably the furthest yet removed from its original predecessor. Guided by Roberto Orci, this pretty much original story sticks to some of the same beats that that the original episode does, but that's where the similarities end. Johnson takes us almost literally from one end of the Star Trek timeline to the other, and includes SO MUCH of the "new" Star Trek history, it's a wonder that it didn't take a dozen scriptwriters to proofread this comic [...] |
$5 MP3 Album Deal: Lou Reed ‘Transformer’ Posted: 30 Aug 2012 07:10 PM PDT Transformer, one of the most popular and adventurous records by Lou Reed the oft-titled "Godfather of Punk," is now available on MP3 format from Amazon this month for only $5. Celebrating its 40th Anniversary in November of this year, Transformer surprised everyone by actually bringing Lou Reed into the mainstream of sorts when released. The album hit the Top 40 and almost made the sounds and styles on this record, homosexuality, androgyny, fucked up relationships, decadence and early gothy art, household words. Produced by David Bowie and the late, great Mick Ronson, who sizzles on guitar on Transformer, Lou takes his best playbook from his Velvet Underground days and spills a wild musical ride all over his canvas here. From the catty "Vicious" to the waxing about Andy Warhol on "Andy's Chest," the sneering and sarcastically droning yet dripped in a kind of Christopher Isherwood Berlin style "New York Telephone Conversation," to the well known and powerful dare one say ballad "Satellite of Love" and of course, the top 20 hit road map for the aforementioned styles and lifestyles, "Walk on the Wild Side," Transformer is a fun ride of many musical sounds and sonic metaphors for that early glam/punk/attitudinal styles that were such a part of living in a certain kind of Max's Kansas City-esque New York City in the early 1970s. Watch Now: First Trailer For ‘The Iceman’ Starring Michael Shannon As Killer Richard Kuklinski Posted: 30 Aug 2012 06:30 PM PDT There is a stone cold presence that Michael Shannon brings whenever he appears on screen and he is going to live up to that when he plays has titular character in Ariel Vromen's The Iceman. Check out the first trailer for the film below. This trailer isn't for any one with a weak stomach, so if you are a bit squeamish when it comes to blood, then this isn't for you. But for those who are brave to see brutal violence then you might want to check out this movie. [...] |
Four New Images From Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim’ Posted: 30 Aug 2012 06:01 PM PDT There has been a lot of building up to the first public glimpse of Guillermo del Toro's sci-fi action flick Pacific Rim. So far we've seen many promotional photos and we along with a lucky few got to see the film in action at Comic-Con. But for those who have yet to see any footage, we must settle for the print promotions. Check out the four new photos from the film below. [...] |
‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’ Poster: Evil Loves A Bloodied Carved Face Posted: 30 Aug 2012 05:00 PM PDT Though January is usually a dumping ground for bad films or sleeper Liam Neeson movies, Lionsgate hopes to drum up some excitement with a new vision of Texas Chainsaw 3D. The film may have changed the title (dropping Massacre), but it is still keeping with the spirit of it, and it will also be in 3D. Now the studio has released a new poster for your viewing pleasure, and it will make you glad that the Sawyer family hasn't carved your face off yet. Check it out below. [...] |
$5 MP3 Album Deal: KISS Ace Frehley Solo Album Posted: 30 Aug 2012 04:30 PM PDT The 1978 KISS Ace Frehley solo album is on sale for only $5 in MP3 format until the end of this month. The CD is on sale as well for only $9.98.) Here's where I tell to you why you should buy this album, especially for a mere 5 bucks. Let me lead by saying, you know how couples will have their framed wedding photo above their bed? Well, my husband and I have a framed print of the Ace Frehley solo album cover, so you can imagine, I (we) really love this album. Frehley's first solo effort, which is undoubtedly the best of the four solo records the band members of KISS put out that year, boasts the hit "New York Groove," but my favorites are the opener "Rip It Out," as well as "I'm In Need Of Love," "Wiped-Out," and "What's On Your Mind?" I should probably just list off all 9 songs on the album because they're all awesome. Perfect record from start to finish. GET THIS ALBUM!!!! Disney In Depth – Dick Van Dyke and The Vantastix Concert (Destination D Recap) Posted: 30 Aug 2012 04:00 PM PDT The D23 Destination D event, held at the Disneyland Resort a few weeks ago, not only focused on the array of Disney animated features, but also on the musical acts who helped make those films even more memorable. D23 brought back the winning act that won audiences at the 2011 D23 Expo (Dick Van Dyke and The Vantastix). This first-class concert made me feel like a chimney sweep, "as lucky can be," for experiencing this performance was "practically perfect in every way." [...] |
Countdown To Doctor Who: In Part 4, Watch What Happens To An Ood That Enters ‘Pond Life’ Posted: 30 Aug 2012 03:00 PM PDT The BBC has posted Part Four of Pond Life, focusing on Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) in the lead-up to Doctor Who Series 7. $5 MP3 Album Deal: T. Rex ‘The Slider’ Posted: 30 Aug 2012 02:30 PM PDT The Slider, by T. Rex, led by the frizzy-haired musical wonder to behold Marc Bolan, is now available on MP3 format from Amazon this month for only $5. The follow up to their breakthrough release Electric Warrior, The Slider takes those sonically delicious cues and turns the heat up, fully crystallizing and realizing the T. Rex sounds, at once glam, hard rock, sprinkles of metal and early punk, all led and commandeered by the gargantuan presence of Bolan on razor-sharp guitar riffs and leads and vocals. This record is like early Sun rock and roll recordings from the 1950s amped way up, up so much the VU meter arrows went into the red and beyond. "Metal Guru," "Baby Strange," "Chariot Choogie," and especially, undoubtedly "Buick Mackane" and the title track, are at equal parts emotional, rocking, intense, and amazingly spellbinding. Immense props for The Slider, check it for yourself and get ready to be blown away. Also available in the sale for only $5 each are other T. Rex albums: Electric Warrior, Dandy In The Underworld, Bolan's Zip Gun, Zinc Alloy & The Hidden Riders Of Tomorrow. Browse all 1,000 albums on sale this month for only $5 each [...] |
REJOICE! MTV Finally Decides To Cancel ‘Jersey Shore’ Posted: 30 Aug 2012 02:00 PM PDT There's an ocean of "reality" TV shows out there so bad they'll cause your jaw to fall clean off your face as your eyeballs melt under the heat of your overheating brain. And the king of these exceptionally stupid shows for a long while now was undoubtedly MTV's Jersey Shore. The word "was" is used there with a great amount of pleasure. It's being reported that MTV has decided to finally do us all an incredible favor (including you fans of the show; you'll one day appreciate the removal of this unhealthy growth from your lives) and cancel Jersey Shore. Posted: 30 Aug 2012 01:00 PM PDT If there were ever a video game franchise that needed to be adapted it would have to be Metal Gear Solid. Regardless of what you think of the quality of video game adapted films (most of the time they suck), studios keep churning them out, and no matter how sacred the franchise, studios see a property they like, they will turn it into a film. But maybe things aren't as bad as they seem. At a Metal Gear anniversary party, there was a banner that read "Metal Gear Solid Hollywood Movie" with the Columbia Pictures logo located right below it.
