Netflix Review: Breaking Bad: Season 4 Posted: 03 Aug 2012 04:37 PM PDT Breaking Bad – Season 4 Netflix Streaming DVD | Blu-ray Created by Vince Gilligan Starring Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn, Aaron Paul, Giancarlo Esposito, Jonathan Banks AMC / Sony S04E01 First Broadcast: July 17, 2011 With the launch of the final fifth season of Breaking Bad on television, Netflix has finally brought the fourth season to the streaming audience, providing an awesome experience for subscribers. Season 4 of Breaking Bad, in my mind, is the superior of the series thus far; bringing Walter White's journey to an incredible crescendo portrayed in an amazing performance by Bryan Cranston, and delivering some of the most compelling television with an explosive conclusion certain to satisfy the viewers and hardcore fans alike. For the uninitiated, Breaking Bad follows the story of Walter White, a chemistry teacher who is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Facing continual mounting medical bills without adequate insurance, White is forced to find a manner of making money to cover not only the expenses, but to leave some sort of financial legacy for his family [...] |
One Spectacular Scrolling Poster For ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ Posted: 03 Aug 2012 03:32 PM PDT Before Peter Jackson strolled onto the Hall H stage at the San Diego Comic-Con in July to present The Hobbit, the promotion for the property was at full throttle. First there was the announcement photo that principal photography was completed, then came the sweet San Diego Comic-Con exclusive poster of Gandalf the Grey walking along a path in The Shire. Then we saw the video blog that marked the end of production. Now comes what may be the greatest photo promo, our first look at a scrolling poster featuring all the major characters from the first of what will now be three films, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey [...] |
Posted: 03 Aug 2012 02:09 PM PDT Saga #5 Written by Brian K. Vaughan Art by Fiona Staples Letters and Design by Fonografiks Cover by Fiona Staples Image Comics Release Date: July 18, 2012 Cover Price: $2.99 Any comic that starts off in a bathroom is obviously going to be a lot of fun. Saga #5 delivers that fun and does it with some superbly written dialogue. This is my first look at this series, but I can definitely see why it has gotten so much hype. With a wide array of characters, this series seems to have a lot of stories going at once. Without spilling the beans, so to speak, I can say that Prince Robot IV receives some stunning news. But even so, he has a mission to complete...one that directly involves Marko and Alana, forcing them to almost cross some personal boundaries. In other news, The Will has a bit of a personal crisis of his own, one that leaves him discontent. But personally, my favorite in the whole comic is Stalk, though we see very little of her in this issue. I cannot say too much, unfortunately, for fear of dropping a spoiler. Trust me, there is a lot going on in this issue [...] |

Watch Now: First Trailer For Andrew Dominik’s ‘Killing Them Softly’ Starring Brad Pitt Posted: 03 Aug 2012 11:00 AM PDT Brad Pitt is a man going around taking names, and he decides who to free and who to blame. The first trailer for Andrew Dominik's Killing Them Softly, which makes excellent use of Johnny Cash's "When A Man Comes Around," has been released. The crime flick follows Pitt and James Gandolfini as professional hit men trying to recover money that was lost in a raid made by two low-life crooks. Check it out below. The film marks Dominik's return as a director after an eight-year absence, so there really isn't much to say after watching the trailer, because it speaks for itself. Killing Them Softly made its official debut over at Cannes where critics praised it. It certainly has earned my attention [...] |
Comic Review: Locke & Key, Vol. 5: Clockworks Posted: 03 Aug 2012 10:00 AM PDT Locke & Key, Vol. 5: Clockworks Written by Joe Hill Art by Gabriel Rodriguez Colors by Jay Fotos Letters by Robbie Robbins Series Edited by Chris Ryall Collection Edited by Justin Eisinger Collection Designed by Robbie Robbins Publisher IDW Publishing Release Date: July 24, 2012 Cover Price: $24.99 Right off the bat I'm putting a light spoiler warning at the top for Locke & Key Volumes 1 – 4. If you haven't read them yet, get on it. Remember reading that issue of Locke & Key where they play with the head key for the first time? The key that goes into the back of anyone's neck, makes the top of your cranium disappear like you're the Kool-Aid Man and allows you to remove memories and emotions and oddly allows you to peer into your own mind? And that, best of all it's a magic that only kids can see? It's one of my fondest memories reading the series so far. It cemented that while the book would also feature edge-of-your-seat terror with truly warm characters you feel like you know, there'd also be space for a particular form of magic: an enchanted, childlike sense of magic. If you're like me and you wait to read the book in those handsome trades, well, ta-da, Locke & Key Volume 5 Clockworks is here [...] |
Watch ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Star Tom Hardy’s Screen Test For ‘Star Trek: Nemesis’ Posted: 03 Aug 2012 09:00 AM PDT You know him as the villainous Bane in this summer's blockbuster film, The Dark Knight Rises, the final installment in Christopher Nolan's acclaimed Dark Knight Trilogy, but before actor Tom Hardy donned the Bane mask, he played the bad guy in 2002's Star Trek: Nemesis. In Star Trek: Nemesis, Hardy starred as a young clone of Star Trek Captain Jean-Luc Picard named Shinzon who plotted the destruction of Earth. The film was the tenth one in the Star Trek franchise and the fourth and final one with the full cast of the Star Trek: The Next Generation television series, starring Patrick Stewart as Picard. With the success of The Dark Knight Rises, a video of a screen test from Nemesis with Hardy and Stewart is making the rounds online again. You can watch it here below [...] |
Skull-Face Island: Episode 02: Safety Not Guaranteed Posted: 03 Aug 2012 08:01 AM PDT Skull-Face Island Movie Podcast presented by Geeks Of Doom Episode 02: Safety Not Guaranteed Hello! It's Adam Frazier aka FamousMonster and welcome to Skull-Face Island! It's been a busy week here on the island. Tim Grant, David Allen, and myself are currently representing the United States in the 20th Annual Skull-Face Island Olympic Games. Forget that 'every four years' noise, we compete every summer - yeah, put that on your Subway sandwich, Michael Phelps. Of course, we only have about five events and our only competition is a bunch of blood-thirsty (but fun-loving) natives and an all-Dinosaur Dream Team - but still, it's serious business. If you missed our first transmission, let me explain how this works. In the year 1991, US Flight 1313 experienced a mysterious, magnetic anomaly somewhere over the South Pacific. Engines failed, pilots cursed and prayed to their Gods, and three boys (that's us!) washed ashore on Skull-Face Island, which of course is an ISLAND in the SHAPE of a SKULL! How cool is that!? Movie Review: Total Recall (2012) Posted: 03 Aug 2012 07:00 AM PDT Total Recall Directed by Len Wiseman Starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Bryan Cranston, John Cho Columbia Pictures Rated PG-13 | 118 Minutes Release Date: August 3, 2012 "I don't wanna spoil it for you, Doug, but rest assured, by the time the trip is over, you get the girl, kill the bad guys, and save the entire planet. Now you tell me... isn't that worth a measly 300 credits?" Based on the Philip K. Dick story We Can Remember It For You Wholesale, Total Recall was first adapted in 1990 by director Paul Verhoeven (RoboCop), based on a screenplay by Alien scribes Ronald Shusett and Dan O'Bannon. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger ("Give these people air!") and Sharon Stone, Verhoeven's Total Recall is considered an influential, mind-bending sci-fi satire. In Hollywood, if something is "influential" that means there's still some money to be squeezed out of it, which means it's ripe for a remake. Enter Len Wiseman, director of the Underworld films and Live Free or Die Hard. Directed by Wiseman and written by Mark Bomback, James Vanderbilt, and Kurt Wimmer, this "new" Total Recall feels like a combination of I, Robot, Minority Report, Blade Runner, and pretty much every science-fiction film made in the last 20 years. Set in the grim future of 2084, Earth is controlled by The United Federation of Britain, led by Vilos Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston). Unlike the original film, which takes place primarily on Mars, Wiseman's remake replaces the red planet with The Colony, a wretched hive of scum and villainy where all the middle-class, blue-collar folks are forced to live [...] |
