Iconic Richard E. Grant Joins ‘Doctor Who’ For Series 7 Posted: 05 Aug 2012 05:39 PM PDT Richard E. Grant, mostly known for Withnail and I, and lesser known for being the pimple that took over himself in How To Get Ahead In Advertising, has been announced as a special guest in the upcoming seventh season of Doctor Who. It has not been revealed who he will be portraying at this point in time. The BBC made the announcement today via their Twitterfeed, beforehand telling their followers that an "iconic star" had been cast in the series. UK newspaper, The Sun, highly regarded as an organization that excels at making up shit, speculates Grant will be the antagonist in the 2012 Christmas Special. Being that The Sun is rarely associated with Nostradamus, I'd take that with a boulder of salt until the BBC make further official revelations... (that being said though, The Sun DID accurately report the Queen would be plopping out of a plane with 007 for the Olympics waayyy back in April) [...] |
Interview: ‘Monocyte’ Creators Kasra Ghanbari and Menton3 Posted: 05 Aug 2012 05:10 PM PDT I'll admit, when I first was assigned to review Monocyte #1, I hadn't seen a comic like it in a while, and probably wasn't ready to. Growing up in the 90's, the surrealist style of H.R Giger was all the rage. Aliens had come out just four years before 1990 and, at the time, you couldn't pick up a comic without seeing hints of Giger's twisted influence. It was great for a while, but after a certain point, the style began to seem dated, especially as Jim Lee and Image were introducing the world to the bold and vibrant styling of Wild C.A.T.S and Stormwatch. I have always preferred capes and utility belts to brooding, gritty vigilantes stalking the streets of New York, Detroit, and Chicago. Swap a pistol for a ray gun and you've got my attention. I had no place in my heart for the brutal reality and endless darkness that was found in comics like Zero Hour and Judge Dredd. So, when I first opened issue one of Monocyte, it all came flooding back. The darkness, the agony, the complete hopelessness, it was all there [...] |
Book Review: The Art Of Luke Chueh: Bearing The Unbearable Posted: 05 Aug 2012 10:01 AM PDT The Art Of Luke Chueh: Bearing The Unbearable Hardcover By Luke Chueh and Gallery 1998 Titan Books Release Date: June 12, 2012 Cover Price: $34.95 I'll be honest, before being offered to review this book I had not really heard of Luke Chueh. That is, until I started doing a little research...at which point I realized I had seen his work, but not his name. The Art Of Luke Chueh: Bearing The Unbearable is the first authorized compendium of his work. It draws together pieces from 2003 to 2009, collecting over 200 paintings for your viewing pleasure. There are many famous ones in here, like Hare-Cut from 2004, but I want to share with you a few that stood out to me, speaking to me on a more personal level. Keep in mind this is my perception of the artwork, which may not be what the artist intended [...] |
