$5 MP3 Album Deal: Donald Fagen ‘The Nightfly’ Posted: 07 Aug 2012 04:50 AM PDT This month, the Donald Fagen album The Nightfly is on sale for only $5 in MP3 format. Released in 1982, The Nightfly was Steely Dan co-founder Fagen's solo debut following the breakup of the band in 1981. The album is a bit of a concept piece, as it explores Fagen's optimistic upbringing at the cusp of the post-war atomic age, when science would bring us colonies in space, better living through chemistry, and "more leisure for artists everywhere." It's the perfect soundtrack for your retro-Mad Men chill pad. FYI - Steely Dan's Aja is also on sale this month for only $5 in MP3 format. Sacha Baron Cohen Takes Aim At Spoofing James Bond Posted: 06 Aug 2012 05:30 PM PDT Recently Sacha Baron Cohen took a step away from the mockumentary genre and went forward with the raunchy political comedy The Dictator. But after spoofing rappers, journalists, and fashion experts, the comedian is putting a satire of the spy genre in his crosshairs. A report says that Baron Cohen and Phil Johnston have successfully sold a spy comedy pitch to Paramount. No amount was disclosed, but it is said that the pitch sold for high six to low seven figures. The film follows a James Bond-like spy forced to go on the run with his long-lost brother, a moronic soccer hooligan. [...] |
$5 MP3 Album Deal: The Ramones ‘Greatest Hits’ Posted: 06 Aug 2012 04:36 PM PDT As part of Amazon's monthly $5 MP3 album deals for August 2012, The Ramones' Greatest Hits is on sale for only $5. If you would like a physical copy of The Ramones Greatest Hits, the CD is available for only $7.60. Young or old, no matter who you are, you've no doubt bopped your noggin to the beat of a Ramones tune at least once in your life. It's an autonomic reaction to the infectious beat created by a ragtag group of ne'er-do-wells sporting matching black hair, who sprung up out of Forest Hills, Queens, NYC in 1974 as a reaction to the lame pop music of the times. They had no particular message, no impressive musical ability – just the doo-wop velvet voice of Joey Ramone and four simple chords that literally anyone can play all sped up in 4/4 time by a simple backbeat and hard driving bass. Greatest Hits is an essential album for everyone's collection and includes such popular songs as "Blitzkrieg Bop," "Rockaway Beach," and "Rock 'N' Roll High School." If you don't already own at least one of the 14 studio albums The Ramones recorded over the 21 years when they were an active touring band, then you must buy Greatest Hits right now. (Today actually marks the 16th anniversary of the band's final performance together.) Teaser Trailer & Images For Kathryn Bigelow’s Seal Team 6 Film ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ Posted: 06 Aug 2012 03:33 PM PDT Zero Dark Thirty has been kept in the dark for a very long time. None of the cast or crew were able to speak about it and no one really knew what we would expect from the film, other than that it was about the manhunt that led to the assassination of Osama Bin Laden. Now we got our first trailer for the film. Check it out below. Zero Dark Thirty is the follow up to Kathryn Bigelow's Academy Award-winning film The Hurt Locker. As mentioned above, the film follows the events that led up to Bin Laden's death. We only get to see a few glimpses of the characters involved in the process, but the tone is what you would come to expect when watching an intense military film. The trailer doesn't shed too much light on what we will see in Zero Dark Thirty, even though most of us know what's going to happen to the terrorist [...] |

Comic Review: X-Treme X-Men #1 Posted: 06 Aug 2012 01:30 PM PDT X-Treme X-Men #1 Written by Greg Pak Pencils by Stephen Segovia Inks by Dennis Crisostomo Colors by Jessica Kholinne Letters by VC's Joe Sabino Covers by Julian Totino Tedesco and Salvador LaRrocca with Marte Garcia Marvel Comics Release Date: July 25, 2012 Cover Price: $2.99 After reading X-Treme X-Men #1, I found myself doing something I haven't done in years....actually CARING about the X-Men. Although I'm a huge fan of "The Wolverine," the X-Men as a whole, seems to bore me. I haven't really cared about them since the late 80s/early 90s when it was Beast, Angel, Cyclops, Marvel Girl, and Iceman. I've tried a bunch of differnt times to get back into them, almost every reboot or restart, to fail time and time again...until now. Writer Greg Pak writes a VERY entertaining first issue, actually a very entertaining issue in general, here putting a spin on the X-Men team that we haven't quite gotten before. A team of X-Men from a different dimension are sent on a mission by a Charles Xavier floating head to destroy 10 different Charles Xaviers across the multiverse [...] |
Jeff Daniels Says ‘Dumb and Dumber’ Sequel Begins Production Next Summer Posted: 06 Aug 2012 12:30 PM PDT Despite what Jim Carrey has said about not being a part of the Dumb and Dumber sequel because of Warner Bros. lack of interest in getting the film into production. But during the Television Critics Association (TCA) panel for The Newsroom, Jeff Daniels said some interesting things that seem to contradict what Carrey has said in the past. Here's the exact quote: "Oh sure, even more so now. Jim wants to do it. I want to do it. The Farrellys want to do it. They want to rewrite the script a little bit and they aren't trying to jam it in before I have to go back and do 'Newsroom' in November. So they're going, 'Why don't we just do it right? Let's get everybody organized to go next May or June.' If everything works out on the business side, that's what we'll do but I think there's more hope than ever." [...] |

Comic Review: Star Wars: The Old Republic, Volume Three: The Lost Suns Posted: 06 Aug 2012 10:39 AM PDT Star Wars: The Old Republic, Volume Three – The Lost Suns Written by Alexander Freed Pencils by Dave Daza, George Freeman, Dave Ross Inks by Mark McKenna Colors by Michael Atiyeh Cover Art by Benjamin Carré Dark Horse Comics Release Date: March 21, 2012 Cover Price: $18.99 Continuing an era begun in Knights Of The Old Republic, Volume Three of the graphic novel series based upon The Old Republic (the latest Star Wars MMORPG) takes a glimpse of several individuals caught up in what seems to be the tail end of the new war between the Jedi and the Republic against the Sith and their Empire. The Lost Suns delivers a unique glimpse of the Star Wars galaxy of the era, through the eyes of a wonderfully individual team serving as our heroes and protagonists. Theron Shan is the primary character we follow through this collected edition, essentially a spy or secret agent, fulfilling a role echoing that of Jahan Cross from another Dark Horse Star Wars series, Agent Of The Empire. This time, however, Theron has an ancestry that rivals that of the Skywalkers – his mother is Satelle Shan, current Grand Master of the Jedi Order; and descended from some of the greatest Jedi of all time: Revan and Bastila Shan. There is just one problem: he is blind to the Force. Despite his ancestry, Shan is unable to access or use the Force. Caught up in the detriment of the war against the Sith Emperor, Satelle Shan passed care of her infant son to another Jedi Master called Ngani Zho, who was deemed too old for the war. In spite of the boy's inability to touch the Force, Zho trained Theron in the ways of the Jedi, until they separated during his teenage years [...] |

Grant landing a role in the new season [...] |

Released in 1976 and produced by Bob Ezrin, Destroyer contains some of the best known KISS songs - "Detroit Rock City," "God of Thunder," "Shout It Out Loud," and the ballad "Beth."
