‘Lincoln’ Trailer: Steven Spielberg’s Captivating Vision Of America’s 16th President Posted: 13 Sep 2012 07:44 PM PDT History tells us that the last few months of Abraham Lincoln's life were spent trying to end the Civil War and put a stop to slavery. The 16th President of the United States was successful on both fronts, but he was tragically assassinated by John Wilkes Booth. Today, we get to see a glimpse of Steven Spielberg's vision and see Daniel Day-Lewis reenact those last few months that changed the face of America. Check out the trailer for Lincoln here below. Even though that sweeping sound from John Williams' sounds an awful a lot like War Horse, there is much to like about this trailer. For instance, the set pieces that are used in the film, they don't look like glorified historic trinkets; they actually look like pieces of history pulled from that time [...] |
Hasbro Says ‘Transformers 4′ Will Feature New Robots In An Effort To Boost Toy Sales Posted: 13 Sep 2012 06:43 PM PDT With every new sequel comes new characters, and when you have a multi-billion dollar franchise like Transformers, you will add as many characters as you can to boost toy sales. So it's not surprising at all to hear that we will be seeing new characters introduced in the untitled Transformers 4 movie. It's been known that the core cast of the Transformers films won't return to reprise their characters. As to whether or not the voice cast will return to voice their respective Autobot personas is unknown. But according to HASBRO CEO Brian Goldner, we will be seeing more Autobots recruited to fight the war against the Decepticons in the next film [...] |
Disney In Depth: Blu-ray Review: Ghosts of the Abyss Posted: 13 Sep 2012 05:31 PM PDT Dive into this week's Disney In Depth, an exploration into the documentary Ghosts of the Abyss, cementing director James Cameron as a leader in the efforts to appreciate the misfortunate vessel known as Titanic. This is deep in more ways that one (sorry, I couldn't resist). This 2003 feature, released in IMAX 3D, finally pulls into port. Well, rather the Blu-ray 3D (and DVD) home release port. Narrated by and featuring actor Bill Paxton, best known for his roles in adventure films Apollo 13and Titanic, serves as the audience's captain, so to speak, on Cameron's mission to survey the whereabouts of the illustrious ship that submerged into the depths of the North Atlantic. Paxton, recruited by Cameron to join him on the expedition led by scientists, historians, and ocean explorers, boards the ship that will take him to the site of its sinking [...] |
Led Zeppelin 2007 Reunion Concert Film To Be Released To Theaters This Fall Posted: 13 Sep 2012 04:30 PM PDT The mighty British powerhouse rock and roll group Led Zeppelin is coming to the silver screen on October 13th, reports The Washington Post. A concert film, entitled Celebration Day, showcases the band's triumphant performance at the 2007 Tribute to Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun in England. It was the band's first headline show in 27 years. Original band members Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and Jimmy Page along with Jason Bonham, son of original late Zep drummer John Bonham, electrified the crowd that night, with an unexpectedly high standard performance that included archetypical Zep favorites such as "Dazed and Confused," "Black Dog" and of course the band's signature song "Stairway to Heaven," but also included some rare nuggets hardly ever played live like "Ramble On" and "For Your Life." ‘Magic Mike 2′ Could Be A Road Trip Comedy Posted: 13 Sep 2012 03:45 PM PDT Magic Mike was able to draw in huge numbers this past summer thanks in part to the appeal of hot sexy male dancers taking the stage and stripping off their clothes. But Steven Soderbergh made a deeper film that showed that some male strippers have dreams off the dance floor. So while the film looks like it may stop at one, Channing Tatum thinks that there are more stories to tell, and wants to direct a sequel. In an interview with German film site Filmstarts, writer Reid Carolin and Tatum spoke about the ideas they have for Magic Mike 2 and who could be filling the director's chair now Soderbergh, is retiring [...] |
‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’ Trailer: Leatherface Comes With House Inheritance Posted: 13 Sep 2012 02:42 PM PDT Successful horror films like SAW, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre find a way to keep their franchises alive. Sequels, prequels, spin-offs, and reboots, anything you can think of, it's been done to your favorite horror franchise. The new Texas Chainsaw 3D film that hits theaters early next year will be just another example of a franchise that just refuses to die, no matter how many times the killers die and the body count stacks. Texas Chainsaw 3D will follow the events of the original film that was released in 1974. A young woman inherits a home, so she decides to take her friends along to see what exactly she got. Little does she know that the house is connected to the notorious family involved in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. If anything, the trailer shows why it's dangerous to get high. Watch the trailer here below [...] |
London Movie Theater Hires Volunteer Ninjas To Deter Rude Patrons Posted: 13 Sep 2012 01:30 PM PDT When someone talks or uses a cellphone during a movie at the Alamo Drafthouse, they are booted from the theater. They believe that those actions disturb other moviegoers and ruin the theater experience. Most theater chains won't implement this kind of rule and choose to play out some generic and non-threatening clip asking patrons not to use their cellphones. But a London theater called The Prince Charles Cinema is taking this rule to the next hilarious (and potentially dangerous) level. They have volunteer ninjas dressed in all black bodysuits watching over the theaters looking out for any kinds of disturbance. When they do find one, they give disturbance to the one ruining the movie experience. /Film has found someone who has experienced this for themselves, and it looks like The Prince Charles Cinema ninjas are effective [...] |
Posted: 13 Sep 2012 12:43 PM PDT Killer Joe Directed by William Friedkin Written by Tracy Letts Starring Matthew McConaughey, Emile Hirsch, Juno Temple, Gina Gershon, Thomas Haden Church, Marc Macaulay LD Entertainment Rated NC-17 | 102 minutes Release Date: July 27, 2012 Directed by William Friedkin (The Exorcist, The French Connection), Killer Joe stars Matthew McConaughey as a charming, soft-spoken, Dallas Police Detective who moonlights as a contract killer. Friedkin's film, which is rated NC-17 for "graphic disturbing content involving violence, sexuality, and a scene of brutality," will no doubt shock some people with its twisted, unrestrained look at dysfunctional, desperate rednecks in the American South. It's certainly offensive, but gloriously so. 22-year-old Chris (Emile Hirsch) finds himself in debt to drug lord Digger Soames (Marc Macaulay) after his own mother steals the cocaine he was given to sell. Chris, who is as Texas white trash as they come, comes up with the harebrained scheme to hire a hitman to kill his mother, whose $50,000 life insurance policy could easily cover his debts. The problem is, Chris's little sister Dottie (Juno Temple) is the beneficiary, and she's a few egg noodles short of a tuna casserole, if you know what I'm saying [...] |

In 2008, James Cameron's 1984 film The Terminator was deemed "culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant" by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as the Terminator, a relentless cybernetic assassin from the post-apocalyptic future of 2029, sent back in time to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton). Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn), a resistance fighter from the future, follows the Terminator back in time to protect Sarah - but why am I even explaining this, obviously you've seen this movie... right? Please, for the love of God tell me you've seen The Terminator [...] |
Doug Ellin Says ‘Entourage’ Movie Script Near Completion; Will Take Place 6 Months After Finale Posted: 13 Sep 2012 10:00 AM PDT When Doug Ellin's hit HBO show Entourage ended after an 8-year run last year, fans were hoping to see its movie, where Ari (Jeremy Piven) works his magic as a studio head and Vince (Adrien Grenier) begins his new life as a married man. Sure enough, there was a movie in the works, and now Ellin has announced that he is 110 pages into the screenplay and that it's nearing completion. According to Deadline, the film will take place six months after the events of the series finale, where Ari is finally a studio head, Vince is steps away from getting married, but the group still goes out to hang at exclusive parties, something that was the basis of the show for eight years running. Basically if it ain't broke, why fix it [...] |

The Man of Steel: A Superman For The 21st Century Posted: 13 Sep 2012 08:01 AM PDT "As you know, I'm quite keen on comic books. Especially the ones about superheroes. I find the whole mythology surrounding superheroes fascinating." That's Bill (David Carradine) from Kill Bill: Vol. 2, waxing poetic on his favorite superhero, Superman. "Not a great comic book. Not particularly well-drawn. But the mythology... The mythology is not only great, it's unique." Bill explains to The Bride (Uma Thurman) that, when it comes to standard superhero mythology, there's the hero and then there's the alter ego. "Batman is actually Bruce Wayne, Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker. When that character wakes up in the morning, he's Peter Parker. He has to put on a costume to become Spider-Man. And it is in that characteristic Superman stands alone." Bill is of course referring to the fact that Superman didn't become Superman. He was born Superman. "When Superman wakes up in the morning, he's Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red "S" – that's the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears – the glasses, the business suit – that's the costume." At the conclusion of Bill's scholarly deconstruction of the world's first superhero, he touches upon something truly fascinating. "Clark Kent is how Superman views us. And what are the characteristics of Clark Kent? He's weak… He's unsure of himself… He's a coward. Clark Kent is Superman's critique on the whole human race." [...] |
Interview: Yes and Asia Keyboard Player Geoff Downes Posted: 13 Sep 2012 07:03 AM PDT With a new album and juggling tours with two bands, Geoff Downes is having a busy time of it. Tinkling the keys for British prog rock giants Yes and Asia for over 30 years, Downes is considered one of the finest of the genre, and rightly so. This summer, Asia released its superb 12th album, (a roman numerical reference celebrating the amount of years since Asia's debut release), a scintillating mix of driving, synth-led rock, and sombre orchestral asides. Before his prog rock legacy began, Downes was part of the British New Wave for a short time in the late 1970s and early '80s. It was brief, but his and Trevor Horn's duo The Buggles has incredible longevity thanks to the hit "Video Killed The Radio Star." I spoke with Downes about his rock bread and butter, touring with Yes and Asia, handling sudden stardom, and whatever else came up in the heat of the moment [...] |
