The Master Header

The Master was a splendid, outstanding, and bold love story about a outsider who longs for affection. Paul Thomas Anderson's latest directorial effort had a limited theatrical release, but its box office numbers show that there was an audience interested in his work and Joaquin Phoenix's return to the big screen.

In its limited release last weekend, The Master grossed $736,311. That's in two major cities alone. Box Office Mojo, who did the math, says that The Master's take means that it averaged $147,262 per screen. So with five theaters and two cities, one film managed to gross just under three-fourths of a million dollars, that says a lot about the film [...]

Obsidian's Project Eternity Image

Early last week it was discovered that Obsidian Entertainment was teasing their next video game project after the South Park RPG Stick of Truth.

The tease turned into a countdown, and as everyone waited to see what it was, many speculated what it might be. Popular possibilities were Fallout 4, Dungeon Siege IV, and a Wheel of Time game...but, as it turned out, it was none of those.

Obsidian revealed their next game to be something being called Project Eternity, which they were to fund using the popular crowd funding website, Kickstarter. [...]

The Unofficial Hunger Games Cookbook
From Lamb Stew to "Groosling" - More than 150 Recipes Inspired by The Hunger Games Trilogy
By Emily Ansara Baines
Adams Media
Release Date: December 1, 2011
Hardcover | Kindle

Full disclosure, I cannot cook at all. My best attempts at baking, in any capacity, end with small yet fierce kitchen fires and more wounds than an amateur snake-handler. So, when the opportunity for me to review The Unofficial Hunger Games Cookbook rolled around, I had to take it. After all, who better to judge than someone who is easily confused and frightened by the art of cooking?

The Unofficial Hunger Games Cookbook sells itself as a companion to the dual lives of the book's protagonist, Katniss. Half of the cookbook is dedicated to hearty salt of the earth style dishes, while the other half concerns itself with the decadent dishes that would be found in the Capitol. Seeing as how most of my meals are hastily eaten in front of a computer screen, I figured that a decadent recipe would be a nice change of pace [...]

Hunter Wilson is your typical American geeky high school student. He worries about getting good grades and getting a date for the big dance, plays lots of video games, and has a blonde attractive alien lady show up stark naked in his swimming pool. Wait, what?? I smell a premise. Thankfully, it is in an endearing one in the capable hands of writers David Wohl and Scott Lobdell who seem to really dig aliens and teenagers in the least creepy way possible.

To to set up Homecoming #1, readers are given a magazine article from ten years ago which explains that a mother and daughter went missing under unusual circumstances. It seems it could have been Mom's abusive boyfriend or an alien spacecraft. When Celeste Lee, the little girl who disappeared ten years ago, shows up at Hunter's house with only the knowledge that she was with scary folks, she has returned to her old home for a reason, and has super powers, it is obvious which culprit for the kidnapping seems to be the best choice [...]

We examine the evidence showing up in the series so far, to highlight more moments justifying our running theory [...]

The Beatles ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ To Be Released On DVD and Blu-Ray This Fall

Posted: 17 Sep 2012 08:11 AM PDT

The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour

Magical Mystery Tour, the 1967 feature film by The Beatles, comes to Blu-ray and DVD and even a large Deluxe Box Set (Blu-ray/DVD/double-vinyl EP) on October 9th. This long-awaited release, which has never gotten a proper treatment for the home market until now, is jam packed with extras, is fully restored, and of course contains some of the best known and beloved Beatles songs of all time.

The film was originally an ambitious project by the Fab Four, mainly by Paul McCartney, which was a wild and crazy kinetic offering of disjointed sketches and sequences by way of the Beatles' trip on a large bus to the seaside, with vivid, crazy, and funny characters along the way, is a perfect visual primer to the wild psychedelic 1967 Summer of Love that preceded its release, originally shown on British television in late 1967 [...]
