Watch All 4 Alternate Endings For ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ Trailer

Posted: 19 Sep 2012 07:00 PM PDT

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Earlier today we posted the exciting second trailer for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. However, there were four alternate endings for that trailer that were posted to the film's official website. Now Bleeding Cool has pulled those endings and posting it in one video, which you can watch here below.

These aren't really trailer friendly per se, they are more like very short clips. These clips include Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) conversing with Gollum (Andy Serkis); a gathering of the dwarves at Rivendell; Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) handing a contract to Bilbo, and Gandalf receiving winnings from a bet he made with the dwarves [...]

Watch Now: First Cinematic Trailer For ‘Dead Island’ Sequel ‘Riptide’

Dead Island: Riptide Image

For those who haven't heard, a sequel to the Deep Silver and Techland zombie apocalypse survival game, Dead Island, is on the way.

Just like the first trailer for Dead Island, which took the internet by storm upon its release (so much so that it led to a battle to acquire the movie rights well before the game arrived---later optioned by Lionsgate), a beautiful and haunting cinematic kicks things off for the sequel, which is titled Dead Island: Riptide.

The trailer isn't quite as good as the one we saw for the first game, but still, it's an excellent trailer well worth watching. You can watch it below now. [...]

Is Thanos Really In ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ & ‘The Avengers 2′?

Posted: 19 Sep 2012 04:26 PM PDT

Guardians of the Galaxy

The Avengers is behind us now, and Marvel Studios is paving the way for Phase Two by releasing Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World next year. While the events of the respective films will have an affect on what we will see in Joss Whedon's The Avengers 2, not much has been heard of that big purple raisin faced villain called Thanos.

Up until now, Thanos' appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers 2 has been nothing but a rumor. But now that James Gunn has been named director of Guardians, we are getting a few more details about the film itself. Details that seem to confirm that Thanos will be the villain in both films. For a Good Time, Call...

Starring: Ari Graynor, Lauren Miller, Seth Rogen, Justin Long, Mimi Rogers, Nia Vardalos, Mark Webber, James Wolk
Focus Features
Rated R | 86 Minutes
Release Date: Friday, September 14, 2012

Disclaimer: So, I know this kind of defeats the purpose of writing a review, to just blurt this out upfront, but I can't control myself. GO SEE THIS MOVIE! It's a well-written comedy by two young women, directed by an up-and-coming filmmaker with some great performances - and it's incredibly funny.

For a Good Time, Call... might be this year's
Bridesmaids, a raunchy, heartfelt comedy in the stylings of Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

OK, now that I've got that out of the way, For a Good Time, Call... is directed by Jamie Travis from an original screenplay by Katie Anne Naylon and Lauren Anne Miller. The film premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival and is based on Miller and Naylon's real-life experiences as college roommates.

You've probably seen Lauren Anne Miller before. She's appeared in several films in supporting roles, including Superbad, Zack and Miri Make A Porno, Observe and Report, and 50/50. I know what you're saying, "Wait, those are all movies that feature Seth Rogen, what a weird coincidence!" It's no coincidence. Miller has been dating Rogen since 2004, and they recently got hitched - proving that even disgustingly funny, awkward guys can find true love [...]

Comic Review: The Mis-Adventures of Adam West

Release Date: September 15, 2012

Adam West, the actor who played Batman in the campy 1960s series, has returned to his heroic ways. This time, however, he's made the leap from the small screen to the comics pages. In The Mis-Adventures of Adam West, West is frustrated at the dark nature of most modern day heroes. Also, he is frustrated with his agent for showing him scripts where the main characters have questionable morals. West is inexplicably transported into one of the scripts thanks to a magic amulet that is sent to him. West leaps into the body of the main characters, and his age and appearance vary from script to script. West changes the story and makes sure that the hero in each story remains moral and upright. West is also trying to discover the orignins of the amulet, who gave him the amulet, and a way back to the real world [...]

‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ Trailer: Martin Freeman Is Going On An Adventure

Posted: 19 Sep 2012 10:46 AM PDT

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Warner Bros. has released a brand new trailer for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, part one of Bilbo's journey towards Middle Earth. While there are still those who are hesitant about the decision to change The Hobbit from a two-part film to a trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey looks like it will have plenty of action, adventure, and comedy.

Check out the full trailer here below.

While the previously released teaser trailer established who the characters are, this new trailer focuses on the plot of the film. The dwarves are set out to reclaim the land that is rightfully theirs, and Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen) believes that they can accomplish that if they bring the hobbit Bilbo Baggins along on this adventure [...]

Movie Review: Robot & Frank

Robot & Frank Poster

Robot & Frank
Directed by: Jake Schreier
Written by: Christopher D. Ford
Starring Frank Langella, Peter Sarsgaard, James Marsden, Liv Tyler, Susan Sarandon, Jeremy Strong
Samuel Goldwyn Films
Rated PG-13 | 90 Minutes
Release Date: August 24, 2012

I don't know much about Jack Schreier. Luckily, it doesn't seem like anyone else does, either. According to IMDb, Schreier is the ex-keyboardist for Francis and the Lights, a pop-synth indie band that has toured with the likes of Drake, MGMT, and Ke$ha.

Aside from Robot & Frank, Schreier's only other directorial credit is a 2005 short film, Christopher Ford Sees a Film, in which Christopher D. Ford (Robot & Frank's writer) sees a terrible film that presumably affects him deeply. As for Ford's work as a screenwriter, he's got a couple of projects in the works, including Eli Roth's Grindhouse-inspired horror slasher, Thanksgiving.

I say all this only because it is extremely rare to watch a smart, thoughtful, and altogether well-made film like Robot & Frank and discover it was the feature-length debut of an earnest, young filmmaker and a no-doubt talented scribe. There are plenty of great first films by directors, but Robot & Frank feels like the work of an established, tenured filmmaker - someone who has matured and refined his style through other films.

The premise of Schreier and Ford's film is simple, and delightfully so. Set in the near future, Frank, an ex-jewel thief (Frank Langella), receives a gift from his son, Hunter (James Marsden): a robot butler programmed to look after him [...]

The GoD List: Comics For September 19, 2012

GoD List Banner

Each and every week "Bringin' home the bacon" MK2Fac3 and "Will work for food" Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn't? So, let's take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we'll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of September 19, 2012. Single issues and trades, they're all here.

Well, it's another one of those weeks where there aren't a lot of interesting comics coming out, at least ones that I find of particular noteworthiness. So, instead of talking about this week's releases, I decided to take a look around Kickstarter and see if I could find any interesting comics worth your support. Over the last year or so, it has become apparent that Kickstarter, the crowd sourcing fundraising website, has become the next big thing in independent comics. It used to be that creators would have to put their time up front to create their books, but now creators can get cash up front and sell books directly to their customers, cutting out the traditional comic book store and everything that goes with it. There are tons of projects out there looking for money, and there is a project out there for all tastes [...]

BioWare Co-Founders Dr. Greg Zeschuk and Dr. Ray Muzyka Retire

Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuk Image

After the great news that Dragon Age III was officially on the way, a bit of surprising news is being reported.

Dr. Greg Zeschuk and Dr. Ray Muzyka, the pair who co-founded BioWare together back in 1995, have decided to step down from their position as heads of the company. It appears that both gentlemen have decided that it's simply time to move on to the next chapter of their life, and it doesn't look as if video games are a part of either of their plans. [...]

Happy Birthday To The Original Batman, Adam West!

Posted: 19 Sep 2012 07:00 AM PDT

Adam West

Happy 84th birthday today to Adam West, original Batman of the camp variety and Mayor of Quahog on Family Guy.

West, with his distinct style, slow, William Shatner-esque vocal patter, and outlandishly controlled temperament, is best known for his portrayal of Batman; patriarchal superhero to Robin, the other half of the Dynamic Duo. Originally airing during the mid 1960s on ABC-TV, Batman aired twice a week at first and became a huge smash. The camp was turned way up and television audiences, who were living in a hotbed of Vietnam overseas, gathered around the escapist fun, gazing at ridiculously irresistible capers that occurred during each episode, as the Caped Crusader had to battle a wildly garish yet colorfully effective evil criminal each and every week. West had a perfect handle on the character of the millionaire playboy Bruce Wayne who lived a double life as Batman, and played the role with a straight-faced earnest approach to the consistently purposefully dry tone and style of the show, which made fun of every type of convention that Batman was [...]
