$5 MP3 Album Deal: Oingo Boingo ‘Dead Man’s Party’ Posted: 25 Sep 2012 05:26 AM PDT As part of Amazon's monthly $5 MP3 album deals for September 2012, Oingo Boingo's Dead Man's Party is on sale for only $5. If you would like a physical copy of Dead Man's Party, the CD is available for only $7.24. Even if you didn't come of age in the '80s, you're probably familiar with Oingo Boingo's "Dead Man's Party," the title track on this album. The song was used in the film Back to School and in the short-lived TV series Chuck. The song "Weird Science" even got its own movie. Other well-known tracks on Dead Man's Party are "No One Lives Forever" and "Fool's Paradise." Even if you don't know that Oingo Boingo frontman Danny Elfman is also an award winning composer, you sure know his work. He created the theme song for TV's The Simpson's and Desperate Housewives, and also scored the 1989 Batman movie as well as most of Tim Burton's movies, including The Nightmare Before Christmas (he sang all of Jack Skellington's songs). Len Wiseman Hired To Direct ‘The Mummy’ Reboot For Universal Pictures Posted: 24 Sep 2012 05:40 PM PDT Glossing over the fact that the last Mummy film was released in 2008, Universal is already putting plans for a reboot into motion. The studio has already hired Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to produce the film and Prometheus writer Jon Spaihts to pen a draft. Now sources are saying that Total Recall director Len Wiseman will be the one to direct the reboot for The Mummy. According to Deadline, Kurtzman and Orci will produce the film under their Universal-based K/O Paper Products, alongside former partners Sean Daniel and Jim Jacks. Daniel and Jacks worked on the previous Mummy trilogy, which grossed over $1.25 billion. The site reports that Spaihts' script will be set into a "modern-day context." [...] |

Guillermo Del Toro Says WB Had To Agree To His Requests To Convert ‘Pacific Rim’ Into 3D Posted: 24 Sep 2012 02:21 PM PDT Guillermo Del Toro originally had no intentions to release next year's Pacific Rim in 3D. None. But WB's decision to convert the film into 3D, seemed to have forced his hand. It was reported that WB did not even consult Del Toro on the decision to convert the film into 3D. Fans of course were outraged that a film that has been hyped since Comic-Con would be presented in 3D. But reports of WB excluding Del Toro out of the decision to convert Pacific Rim into 3D may have been slightly exaggerated. Now Del Toro is speaking out about the decision. Check out what he had to say below [...] |
Posted: 24 Sep 2012 12:00 PM PDT Dredd 3D Directed by Pete Travis Written by Alex Garland Starring Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby, Wood Harris, Lena Headey, Domhnall Gleeson Lionsgate | DNA Films Rated R | 95 Minutes Release Date: September 21, 2012 Created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra, Judge Dredd first appeared in 1977 in the science-fiction anthology 2000 AD. A law enforcer given the power of judge, jury, and executioner, Dredd patrols the dystopian metropolis of Mega-City One, a vast city-state within a post-apocalyptic wasteland. In 1995, director Danny Cannon (I Still Know What You Did Last Summer) brought Judge Dredd to the big screen starring Sylvester Stallone, Diane Lane, Max von Sydow, and Rob Schneider - and yes, you read that correctly - that's Deuce Bigalow Male Gigalo, not Roy Scheider of Jaws. Judge Dredd is pure '90s cheese: a violent, effects-heavy movie that feels like the best parts of RoboCop and the worst parts of Demolition Man - the comic book equivalent to 1993's Super Mario Bros. Looking back on it, if Stallone would have kept his helmet on - and if Rob Schneider wasn't involved - it might have been a passable action movie. Luckily, Hollywood believes in second chances - especially if there's money to be made. In a cinematic landscape post-Batman Begins, it seems everything is being rebooted or re-imagined with a dark, gritty, brooding twist [...] |

Geek Peek: Hugh Jackman Bares His Muscles & Claws In ‘The Wolverine’ Posted: 24 Sep 2012 10:00 AM PDT Hugh Jackman has gone through some serious workouts to turn his body into everyone's favorite lonesome mutant Wolverine. Now we are getting a first look at the results of those workout sessions. 20th Century Fox, via Ryan Penagos' Twitter, has revealed the first image of a seriously ripped Jackman as Wolverine in James Mangold's The Wolverine. Check out the larger, full image below. The first image isn't spoilery at all, it's more like something to accompany the announcement that The Wolverine is coming to theaters on July 26, 2013. The film will take place after the events of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where Logan finds himself in Tokyo, Japan trying to recall his lost memories. There he falls in love with a local woman and fights against the Yakuaza and a mutant Samurai [...] |
$5 MP3 Album Deal: Pearl Jam ‘Vs.’ Posted: 24 Sep 2012 08:29 AM PDT As part of Amazon's monthly $5 MP3 album deals for September 2012, Pearl Jam's Vs. is on sale for only $5. If you would like a physical copy of Vs. , the CD is available for only $6.99. Vs. was Pearl Jam's second studio album, recorded in 1993 at the luxurious The Site in Nicasio, California. Pressured to top – or at least parallel – the success of their debut album, Ten, the band at first thought the paradise-like setting of The Site would allow them to relax and let their creative juices flow. However, it had the opposite effect on singer Eddie Vedder, who was unnerved by all that comfort – so much so, that he actually drove to San Francisco and slept in his truck for a week. Hey, whatever makes the music happen, right? The result was this gem of an album, which includes the now-classic radio hits "Daughter," "Dissident," and "Elderly Woman Behind The Counter in a Small Town," as well as the heavier hitting "Animal" and "Blood." Browse the main sale page to see all 100 albums on sale for only $5 each in MP3 format through the end of September 2012 [...] |
Marvel Studios Pres. Kevin Feige Has Some Ideas For A Standalone Hulk Film Posted: 24 Sep 2012 07:09 AM PDT Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is already underway with Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World well into different stages of production. Films under the plans for Phase Two also include Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and possibly Ant-Man. All those films would lead up to The Avengers 2. But the one thing you don't see in that line up is a standalone Hulk film. With Mark Ruffalo signed on to appear in multiple Marvel-related films, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has a slight idea of what the plot for the Hulk standalone film could be and when we could be seeing it. In an interview with MTV, Feige said seeing a Hulk standalone film could come as early as after The Avengers 2, which hits theaters May 1, 2015. It's way too early to put an exact date on the Marvel calendar, but Feige does believe that the Hulk is worthy of having his own standalone film, it's just a matter of finding the right story [...] |
Blu-ray Review: Boardwalk Empire Season 2 Posted: 24 Sep 2012 07:00 AM PDT Boardwalk Empire -- The Complete Second Season Blu-ray l DVD CREATOR: Terence Winter DIRECTORS: Timothy Van Patten, Allen Coulter, Jeremy Podeswa, More WRITERS: Terence Winter, Howard Korder, Steve Kornacki, More STARRING: Steve Buscemi, Michael Pitt, Kelly Macdonald, Michael Shannon, Jack Huston, Shea Whigham, Aleksa Palladino, Michael Stuhlbarg, Stephen Graham, Vincent Piazza, Anatol Yusef, Gretchen Mol, Paz de la Huerta, Michael Kenneth Williams, Dabney Coleman, William Forsythe, Anthony Laciura HBO Studios RELEASE DATE: August 28, 2012 I've made my love for HBO no secret, with two of my all-time favorite shows going strong right now in Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire, and a slew of others I've adored over the years. So instead of reviewing season 2 of Boardwalk on Blu-ray, I'll just be swooning about it for a bit before sharing what bonus features there are to enjoy. Where season 1 established the incredible collection of characters the show has to offer, season 2 expands on them (those who have survived, anyway), creating an intricately crafted web of often interconnecting storylines. The primary focus of the second season is again Enoch "Nucky" Thompson (Steve Buscemi) and James Darmody (Michael Pitt). But instead of being the boy Nucky helped to raise, Jimmy has reunited with his estranged father, the Commodore (Dabney Coleman), and is leading the charge to take control of Atlantic City and the alcohol coming in and out of it.
