Possible First Look At The Goblin King From Peter Jackson’s ‘The Hobbit’ Leaks Posted: 05 Sep 2012 06:02 PM PDT When it comes to The Hobbit, fans of J.R.R. Tolkien's books have likely been most curious to see how director Peter Jackson brings to life two of the villains from the book in the now three-part film adaptation. Those two are of course the primary villain, Smaug the dragon, and the Goblin King, also known as the Great Goblin. Now comes a small peek at what's assumed to be what this great goblin...in all his grotesque glory. [...] |
Comic Review: G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes & Storm Shadow #16 Posted: 05 Sep 2012 04:36 PM PDT G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes & Storm Shadow #16 Written by Chuck Dixon Artists: Robert Atkins & Atilio Rojo Inks by Juan Castro & Atilio Rojo Colors by Simon Gough & Joana LaFuente Letters by Neil Uyetake Editors: John Barber & Carlos Guzman Covers by Alex Cal & Robert Atkins IDW Publishing Release Date: August 29, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 In Snake Eyes & Storm Shadow #16 a TON of mysteries are revealed. The unfortunate part... they're not solved. Yet. But, it's a really fun ride trying to figure them out with the clues given in this issue. Of the two G.I. Joe books that Chuck Dixon writes, I feel that this is his best. By far. In G.I. Joe, he has to juggle a TON of characters, both heroes and villains; here, he only has to write a handful of characters, and I think that's why he excels on this title. This issue continues the battle between the Araskicage and Cobra. Cobra has declared war on the Arashikage clan, and it's everyone for himself. During the issue we get some FANTASTIC flashbacks telling the origin of the Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow rivalry. I was very surprised at just how MEAN that Snake Eyes was a child, you almost get the feeling that you should be sympathizing with Storm Shadow, as he's portrayed as the victim in their childhood feud. Now, I have a feeling that will change in upcoming issues, but for now, it's really quite surprising [...] |
Watch Disney/Pixar’s Latest Trailer For ‘Monsters Inc. 3D’ Posted: 05 Sep 2012 02:24 PM PDT Next year Disney and Pixar will be releasing their first prequel to a classic title. Monsters University will follow Mike and Sulley's days as students of a prestigious university before they started working for Monsters Inc. But before we can get to all of that, there is the matter of watching the original film all over again, in Monsters Inc. 3D. So relive the moments that made you laugh by watching the latest trailer for the film below. Also check out the awesome poster for the 3D re-release. It's easy to see why Disney and Pixar would be rereleasing their films in 3D. The eye-popping presentation is a huge gimmick that gives a boost to the film's numbers, and Pixar has been doing very well by rereleasing previous hits. It also gives us a chance to see it on the big screen if anyone missed it when it hit theaters back in 2001 [...] |
Comic Review: The Lone Ranger #9 Posted: 05 Sep 2012 12:51 PM PDT The Lone Ranger #9 Written by Ande Parks Art by Esteve Polls Colors by Marcelo Pinto Letters by Simon Bowland Cover by Francesco Francavilla Dynamite Entertainment Release Date: September 5, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 The Lone Ranger #9 continues the dual tale of the present day Lone Ranger trying to get Tonto back to his tribe while three years earlier, we continue to learn the origin of Tonto and how he came to be the warrior that his is today. Writer Ande Parks does it again! JUST when you think he's not going to be able to top the last issue, he easily does. This issue is probably one of my favorites. About 98 percent of it continues the Tonto origin story, and man, is it a story. While I don't want to go into spoiler territory, the whole issue is framed by a heartbreaking Native American folk tale that is almost perfectly paralleled by the events going on in Tonto's own story here. There's a pretty generous amount of violence and bloodshed, but it's very tastefully done (more on that later) and if you're on the squeamish side, I wouldn't worry at all. What we have here is another solid, entertaining comic of the western genre. Parks knows how to turn out a very entertaining story without talking down to his audience and without falling into the standard "Cowboys & Indians" trap that most authors of today's western comics do [...] |
‘Taken 2′ Trailer: Liam Neeson Threatens You Via YouTube Video Posted: 05 Sep 2012 11:35 AM PDT Only a few men can find where you are hiding. One of them is Bryan Millis (Liam Neeson). Scouring the globe, he managed to kill an entire underground human trafficking group and rescue his daughter. But it looks like he is still pissed. Pissed at the fact that you haven't been talking about his movie. Now he sends his threats to YouTube. And when you watch it, rest assure, he will find you, and you will not like it. Kidding aside, the latest video is just another marketing tool using Bryan Mills' infamous lines to push you to watch this movie. It's already got me hooked, but the nifty intro was a nice touch. There isn't a whole lot of new material in this trailer to look at except the intro and requests that you find the missing scene by going on twitter and using the hashtag #taken2scene [...] |
The GoD List: Comics For September 5, 2012 Posted: 05 Sep 2012 09:00 AM PDT Each and every week "Wrassly Smurf" MK2Fac3 and "Rummy Smurf" Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn't? So, let's take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we'll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of September 5, 2012. Single issues and trades, they're all here. With last week's Blue Moon, MK had to return to his natural home of Smurf Village to welcome the newest member of Smurf Village. Wrassly Smurf has a lot of smurfberries to harvest, and Papa Smurf does not care fore slackers, so it is up to Rummy Smurf to pass on some comic picks for this week. However, he has work to do as well, so we just get a couple of suggestions this week. These smurfberries aren't going to harvest themselves, so let's get into The GoD List! [...] |
Prophets Of Fiction: Famous Authors Characterized As Their Books Posted: 05 Sep 2012 08:01 AM PDT They say you can't judge a book by its cover. But what if you could judge an author by his or her book? Artist Selin Arisoy sent us a gallery of images that she created where she took the visage of a handful of timeless fiction authors and characterized them as their famous novels. H.P. Lovecraft as The Call of Cthulhu, Edgar Allan Poe as The Raven, Ray Bradbury as Fahrenheit 451, Mary Shelley as Frankenstein, and Frank Herbert as Dune. Check them all out below [...] |
Comic Review: Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt #1 Posted: 05 Sep 2012 07:00 AM PDT Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt #1 Written by Steve Darnall & Alex Ross Art by Jonathan Lau Colors by Vinicius Andrade Letters by Simon Bowland Covers by Alex Ross, John Cassaday, Jae Lee & Ardian Syaf Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt Ashcan Foreword by Mark Waid Written & Illustrated by Pete Morisi Colored by Mike Kelleher Pete's Dragon Written by Steve Darnall Dynamite Entertainment Release Date: September 5, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt #1 is probably one, if not THE MOST, original super hero story that you'll read this year. Hands down, bar none. It's a great change of pace from the "normal" super hero genre books that are being published right now. In short, pretty sure you're gonna enjoy this one. Where the heck has writer Steve Darnall been? I read a LOT of comics, ladies and gentlemen, but I haven't seen his name in a looooooong time. And that's a shame. In fact, after an exhausting internet search, I can't find anything credited to him since 1999. Again, really a shame. I absolutely LOVED this book and so will you. It's quite different from a lot of first issues, there's no book length long origin, no "I shall be called THUNDERBOLT" moment, but there are panels and inner monologue that give us small clips and snippets of an origin, and the rest pretty much takes care of itself [...] |
