Interview: ‘Sunset’ Writer Christos Gage

Christos Gage

As the success of Gran Torino indicates, we love stories about hard-edged, old timers fending off thugs and then bitching about them wearing their pants too low. Take a Walt Kowalski character-type, a tough, old fashioned, Korean War vet, and drop him in the middle of a mob-action story and you will have a feel for Christos Gage's awesome graphic novel, Sunset.

Gage's story of revenge and redemption pulls no punches. Its script is as violent as it is politically incorrect — and in many ways, right on target. The main character, Nick Bellamy, never passes up an opportunity to comment on the softening of the modern generation. Their iPhones, their Prius, their kids' scoreless soccer games: every topic is fair game. Nick also never leaves a challenge unchecked. As a former enforcer for mob boss Mr. Gianelli, Nick can still easily wipe out a small gang of common thugs like a septuagenarian Batman.

Christos Gage has written comics such as Deadshot, Absolution, Avengers: The Initiative, and X-Men Legacy. I recently had the change to discuss Gage's latest comic, Sunset, with him [...]

‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2′ Trailer: Vampires, Werewolves & One Giant Snow Fight

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2

Summit Entertainment saved the best for last, and those who agonized waiting to see any new footage for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 are now breathing one huge sigh of relief. A new 90-second trailer for the film debuted last night during the MTV Music Video Awards, but just in case you didn't have a chance to watch it last night, you have another chance to watch here.

Check out the new trailer here below.

Sure seeing Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson holding hands in the trailer may look a bit awkward now, but it looks like some of the major problems in the Breaking Dawn Part 2 come from the film's visual effects. But that has been a consistent issue with the entire Twilight film franchise, so much so that it might as well be considered a badge of honor for this series [...]

Check Out Google’s Interactive Doodle For Star Trek’s 46th Anniversary!

Google Doodle Star Trek 46th Anniversary

Tomorrow marks the 46th anniversary of the airing of the very first regular Star Trek television episode, which premiered on NBC on September 8, 1966. To celebrate this wonderful occasion, Google has posted an interactive Doodle on their home page today.

The Doodle starts out showing the original crew of the USS Enterprise on the ship's bridge. The popular characters - Spock, Uhura, Captain Kirk, Bones, Sulu, and a Red Shirt (and we all knows what happens to them) - have all been turned into the letters spelling Google. When you click on some of the characters as well as specific areas of the bridge, it yields sounds, blinking lights, and one even opens the door, where you're taken to the Transporter Room. Click the right spot in the Transporter Room and you'll get a nod to a famous episode. Clicking other items gets you beamed down to the planet below's surface, where you'll get to reenact one of the most famous scenes from the series, starring one of its most popular enemies!

I don't want to reveal what you'll see in the game, because it's fun to uncover everything yourself. Just know that it's a lengthy interactive game for a Google Doodle and that it's lots of fun! After you've gone through the Doodle yourself, you can watch the video here below that plays out the entire Doodle for you, so you can see anything you might have missed [...]

Universal Green Lights ‘Safe House’ Follow-Up

Safe House Headed Towards Prequel or Sequel

When you get the kind of numbers that the spy action thriller Safe House grossed, which was near $202 million worldwide, it's probably a safe bet that a studio would want to move forward with a follow-up. And that's what Universal is doing. They have already hired the film's original writer David Guggenheim to write a draft for what will either be a sequel or a prequel.

And why is it unclear whether it will be a sequel or a prequel? Well there are some potential spoilers that explain why, so if you haven't seen the movie already, don't hit the jump [...]

Skull-Face Island: Episode 07: Lawless Victory

Posted: 07 Sep 2012 09:05 AM PDT

Skull-Face Island BannerFamousMonster and it's time for another transmission from Skull-Face Island. As always I'm joined by Oroku Saki, David Allen — wait a second... where the HELL is David?

Guys, I hate to break it to you, but David is missing - he was last seen down by the lagoon with a fishing pole and a pack of Marlboro Reds. Producer Tim Grant and myself tried to find David before this week's transmission but alas, we didn't have enough time to coordinate with the natives and organize a proper search party. I'm sure he'll turn up eventually...

Being as David is probably somewhere whistlin' the theme to The Andy Griffith Show, Tim pulls double-duty this week as producer and co-host, so you'll get to hear him butcher names and slur his speech as he drinks Dale's Pale Ale and curses my name under his breath [...]

Disney In Depth: Destination D: An Evening with Alan Menken, The Music of Disney

For many attendees of the Destination D experience, the last event was perhaps the most special, in that "An Evening with Alan Menken" touched the hearts and souls of everyone who has ever wanted to hear the master of his craft live.

Alan Menken, the composer behind the films and songs we know by heart, presented the most extraordinary two hours of music I have ever heard - and seen - in my life. Now that's quite a statement. Some may call that a bit exaggerated, but as a devoted Disney fan, like almost all of my fellow audience members, we knew the gift we were being presented. Menken rarely performs publicly, so to hear his legendary stories and songs in person made this even more winning [...]
