‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ Will Most Likely Be An Original Story Posted: 31 Oct 2012 06:00 PM PDT After Disney made the massive purchase of Lucasfilm yesterday, Star Wars fans wondered where it all goes from here. Word that an Episode VII was hitting theaters in 2015 had fans wondering if they would see the continuation of the story of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo. Much of their story has already been put into numerous books, graphic novels, and video games. In fact Timothy Zahn's Dark Empire Trilogy - which take place six years after the events of the Empire falling and Luke being drawn into the dark side - could have been one of graphic novels adapted for the next Star Wars trilogy. Posted: 31 Oct 2012 05:00 PM PDT Trio, Volume 1 Written by John Byrne Art by John Byrne Colors by Ronda Pattison Cover by Neil Uyetake, Robbie Robbins IDW Publishing Release Date: October 16, 2012 Cover Price: $17.99 John Byrne: The man, the myth, the legend. X-Men, Fantastic Four, Superman, Batman, The Avengers; Byrne has done it all and he's renowned for his ability to create controversy when he takes on a popular franchise. With Trio, Byrne brews up a super-team up from scratch in the spirit of Bronze Age comics. Trio features, well, a trio of super-heroes. Amongst themselves they refer to each other as One, Two, and Three. One is a paper-thin woman who can stretch herself out like Plastic Man. Two's superpower is that his arms turn into giant blades that he can use to deflect bullets. Three is a teenage boy who can transform himself into a Thing-like beast. The press refers to the group as Rock, Paper, and Scissors—a name the team seems uneager to adopt. [...] |
‘Despicable Me 2′ Trailer: Whatever You Do, Don’t Look Up Posted: 31 Oct 2012 04:00 PM PDT A lot of what makes Despicable Me so adorable are those lovable mischievous yellow minions that go around assisting Gru (Steve Carell). The first trailer for Despicable Me 2 featured only three minions singing their off-key rendition of "Barbara Ann." But it didn't tell us anything about the sequel at all. Now a new holiday-appropriate trailer has hit the web and it seems to tell us that the sequel will be focused on them. Check it out after the jump [...] |
Daniel Craig Says It’s ‘Impossible’ To Do A James Bond Two-Parter Posted: 31 Oct 2012 03:15 PM PDT Everyone who worked on Skyfall must be pleased with the results because EON productions has already commissioned a Bond 24 and Bond 25. We previously reported that the upcoming two Bond films would have a cohesive story, kind of like how Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace were linked. But it appears that rumor is untrue, as Daniel Craig has come out saying that it is "impossible to do a two-parter." In the initial report, Skyfall scribe John Logan presented a draft for a story that would play out over the course of two films. This would be the first time something like this would happen in the Bond franchise. The report also confirmed that Craig would return for at least two more Bond films [...] |
Disney Halloween: Wreck-It Ralph Posted: 31 Oct 2012 02:30 PM PDT We first got a look at Disney's upcoming animated feature Wreck-It Ralph at San Diego Comic-Con this summer, and we loved what we saw. Any old-school video game fan is going to dig what the movie has in store. The film comes out this Friday, so the folks at Disney sent out this Halloween e-card from all the "guys, ghouls, and ghosts" of Wreck-It Ralph and we thought we'd share it with you. The Rich Moore-directed film, which opens in theaters on November 2, features the voices of John C. Reilly, Jack McBrayer, Jane Lynch, and Sarah Silverman. Check out one of the trailers for Wreck-It Ralph here below [...] |

31 Days of Horror: Halloween / Halloween II / Halloween III: Season of the Witch Posted: 31 Oct 2012 01:19 PM PDT Hello Geeks and Ghouls, Famous Monster here. Well, the day has finally come - it's Halloween! 31 days. 64 films. I couldn't think of a better way to put the kibosh on this epic month of movie watching than with the boogeyman himself, Michael Myers. No, not The Love Guru Michael Myers - I'm talking about THE Michael Myers, as in the silent stalker from John Carpenter's 1978 classic, Halloween. Today's final entry of 2012's 31 Days of Horror is a triple-feature including Halloween, Rick Rosenthal's 1981 sequel, Halloween II, and Tommy Lee Wallace's 1982 cult film, Halloween III: Season of the Witch. "Death has come to your little town, Sheriff. You can either ignore it, or you can help me stop it!" [...] |
$5 MP3 Album Deal: Steely Dan ‘Aja’ Posted: 31 Oct 2012 12:50 PM PDT Aja, the consummate release from the jazz/rock/quirky genre stretching group Steely Dan, is now available on MP3 format from Amazon this month for only $5.00. By the time the album was originally released in 1977, Steely Dan had been already around for a handful of years, hits and successful albums under their belt ("Do It Again," "Rikki Don't Lose That Number," "Dirty Work," etc.) and it all crystallized with the release of Aja. Watch Now: Are There Real Ghosts Inside Disney’s Haunted Mansion Ride? Posted: 31 Oct 2012 12:00 PM PDT Are there real ghosts inside The Haunted Mansion, the famous ride at Disneyland? A new video claims that the answer to this question is "yes," and you can check it out below. The story, as told to the Disney blog Inside the Magic, is that an "anonymous cast member" sent along a single blurry image as a tease of a supposed little boy ghost haunting The Haunted Mansion ride (see it here), and a promise of a full video to come. That video did eventually come. But the question remains, is it real? [...] |
Comic Review: Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 2 #16.1 Posted: 31 Oct 2012 10:59 AM PDT Review by Dave 'Da7e' Gonzales Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #16.1 Story by Brian Michael Bendis Pencils/Inks by David Marquez Colors by Justin Ponsor Marvel Comics Release Date: October 31, 2012 Cover Price: $2.99 The whole idea of Marvel "Point One" books is to give new readers a place where they can enter the Marvel timeline. These stories are ongoing and complex, so even though each issue essentially has a "Previously on" page that fills you in on the character and storyline, it's not going to mention all the nuance that has come before. And "nuance" is what makes Ultimate Spider-Man Volume 2 one of the best things going in comics right now. As you and I progress through the series every couple of weeks, I'll try to bring up what makes this character special to me (and it's not his race, even though I'm happy there's nothing Aryan in him - if you want Blonde Hair and Blue Eyes, jump on Uncanny X-Men), hopefully organically. There won't be a lot of discussion of Miles from this issue, a "Point One" that is supposed to provide an entry point for those readers who wanted to give Ultimate Spider-Man some time before investing in a comic that might not last a year. Wait, What? Watching Horror Movies Helps You Lose Weight? Posted: 31 Oct 2012 10:00 AM PDT We as human beings are constantly being fed sales pitches claiming to hold the secret for truly losing weight fast...most often not requiring any exercise whatsoever, while still allowing you to eat whatever the hell you'd like. Only fools buy into such nonsense, and, whether you're able to put in the effort or not, anyone with even partial brain function knows that it takes a lot of painfully trying discipline and hard work to lose the weight you feel you need to lose. Still, for the sake of entertainment, and because it does happen to be All Hallows' Eve, what if I told you that a new study claims that watching horror movies can in fact help you to drop pounds. Would you listen? [...] |
Comic Review: Point Of Impact #1 Posted: 31 Oct 2012 09:00 AM PDT Point of Impact #1 Story by Jay Faerber Art & Cover by Kory Kuranel Letters by Charles Pritchett Image Comics Release Date: October 10, 2012 Cover Price: $2.99 Wow! Talk about under the radar! There's some Image releases that get TONS of hype. You're Walking Dead, your Saga, ect. But Point of Impact #1 comes out without so much as a decent press release and it's one of the most entertaining books I've read in months! Jay Faerber turns in a script that is straight up modern day crime/thriller noir. It's got all the elements of the classic murder mystery thriller, updated for todays audience. There's murder, adultry, cheating, backstabbing, and a little bit of Law & Order type police drama thrown in for good measure. The story is absolutely riveting, and is a great first chapter in this mini series. [...] |
Rockstar Games Announces Release Window For ‘Grand Theft Auto 5′ Posted: 31 Oct 2012 08:00 AM PDT Rockstar Games has announced a release window for their highly anticipated fifth installment in the Grand Theft Auto series, Grand Theft Auto V. While we don't have an official release date yet, Rockstar has announced that you will be able to get your hands on the game come spring of 2013. The news comes as no surprise as Rockstar has a fondness for releasing their primary current-generation games in the spring. [...] |
What The Disney Acquisition Of Lucasfilm Actually Means: One ‘Star Wars’ Geek’s Analysis Posted: 31 Oct 2012 07:00 AM PDT "I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced…" Several Star Wars fans may have felt this way or even recalled the above quote with the announcement on October 30 that Disney had acquired Lucasfilm, and were proceeding forward with the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy commencing with the release of Episode VII in 2015. Some may have even had strokes. The news was initially perceived to be a possible joke by many fans, and I'm sure many pondered whether it was actually April Fool's Day and not Halloween. In spite of this, the news is very real, and the new Disney Lucasfilm (is that actually a name now?) is steaming ahead with upcoming and current projects. Following the breaking of the news, I followed the link to the Disney Investors Conference Call to listen in on the full sordid details on the acquisition. It was a bizarre experience; I felt like I was eavesdropping on the Empire in some kind of twisted livestreaming Space Watergate, but it was incredibly informative. Since then, I've got many thoughts and theories and opinions on this massive purchase by Disney, and while I'm going to go through them on the latest Social Blend podcast, I wanted to put fingers to keyboard here at Geeks Of Doom [...] |
