Warner Bros. Launches ‘For Your Consideration’ Awards Campaign For ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Posted: 13 Nov 2012 05:15 PM PST The year is coming to a close and that means studios will be releasing and pushing the films they feel should be considered for some major awards. One studio making such a push is Warner Bros., a studio with a literal treasure trove of movies that could be in the running to the top prize. Films like Magic Mike and Argo could be some serious contenders, as could The Hobbit, but WB is launching a campaign to put The Dark Knight Rises on the awards season map. It's not a huge surprise to see WB make such a move, after all The Dark Knight Rises was one of WB's highest grossing films of the year. But could the film win Best Picture? It depends on who you ask of course, but in my opinion it does stand a chance against something like Argo, Zero Dark Thirty, or more of this year's films that have yet to be released [...] |
Comic Review: Conan the Barbarian #10 Posted: 13 Nov 2012 03:28 PM PST Conan the Barbarian #10 Script by Brian Wood Art by Declan Shalvey Colors by Dave Stewart Letters by Richard Starkings and Comicraft Cover by Massimo Carnevale Dark Horse Comics Release Date: November 14, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 Conan the Barbarian #10 is one of the strangest Conan comics I've ever read. It reveals a whole different level of the Conan character that I've never seen before. And that is, complacency. Something that's rarely if EVER seen in a Conan comic. I'll be honest, it was a little unsettling to see Conan the Barbarian...happy. Writer Brian Wood continues his excellent run on this title with the first chapter in a new storyline, titled "The Death." We find Conan happily living on a pirate ship with his love, Belit, going from port to port, raiding other ships, and basically carrying on a pirate's business as usual. What's odd is that for the first time, we see a calm, satisfied Conan, one who's not out for revenge or on a hell-bent quest for revenge, a mystic artifact, or a rescue mission. It's a little odd to see him in this mood, but it totally works, and is a pleasant surprise. And just because Conan is "happy" it doesn't mean he's turned into a softy. When the swords come out, he's still the badass barbarian that we all know and love. This issue has some great surprises, as well as a heavy dose of mystery and character development [...] |

Howard Shore’s ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ Score Streaming For Free Posted: 13 Nov 2012 12:25 PM PST In one month's time audiences around the world will be taking a return trip to J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-Earth via the comfort of a plush theater seat for the first time in nearly a decade when The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the opening chapter of Peter Jackson's eagerly-anticipated three-part adaptation of the 1937 classic fantasy-adventure Tolkien tome that would serve as the prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy, hits cinema screens from Oregon to Oslo. To bring this heroic endeavor to life on the big screen Jackson recruited nearly every integral member of the cast and crew that together made the LoTR trilogy the epic achievement in genre filmmaking it almost wasn't, most prominently composer Howard Shore, who won Academy Awards for his vibrant and awe-inspiring orchestral scores to The Fellowship of the Ring and The Return of the King. Fans of Jackson and Shore's previous collaborations were wondering how their latest musical jaunt through the land of wizards and monsters would sound, and most importantly how much of Shore's compositions for the Lord of the Rings movies would be utilized for the Hobbit trilogy. They can rest easy because the score for An Unexpected Journey, which won't be available for sale until the Tuesday prior to the movie's opening, is now streaming for free in full online [...] |
‘Saw’ & ‘Insidious’ Director James Wan In Talks For ‘MacGyver’ Movie Posted: 13 Nov 2012 11:00 AM PST It looks like that MacGyver movie is coming closer to hitting theaters than originally thought. Development for the film has been quiet as of late, but New Line Cinema is now in talks with Saw and Insidious director James Wan to helm the big screen adaptation. The film is using a script drafted by Jason Richman and polished by Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn (yes the two are related to Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn). The talks come on the heels of Warner Bros. pushing up the release date for Wan's supernatural horror flick The Conjuring. Apparently test audiences are responding positively to the film, which is why the studio made such a move. [...] |

Rumor For Your Thoughts: Will Darth Vader Return From The Dead In ‘Star Wars Episode 7′? Posted: 13 Nov 2012 08:00 AM PST Fans of George Lucas's original Star Wars trilogy have seemed to remain cautiously optimistic (while quietly terrified) about Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm and their plans to make the trilogy they thought would never ever happen just a couple of weeks ago. This cautious optimism likely stems from Disney's acquisition of Marvel and the movies that have been released since, including The Avengers, which has given them just enough hope that Star Wars Episode VII can bring the franchise back from that darkest and most depressing of places that Lucas's prequel trilogy delivered it to. Bring it back from the dead. [...] |
