Animal Wranglers For ‘The Hobbit’ Claim 27 Animals Died During Production Posted: 19 Nov 2012 05:40 PM PST Amidst all the controversy surrounding The Hobbit High Frame Rate in 3D and decision to expand to a full-length trilogy, Peter Jackson and his team could not have seen this one coming. A report from the AP says that animal wranglers who worked on the movies claim that up to 27 animals died during the course of filming the trilogy. Jackson's team is refuting the argument by saying that "no animals were harmed on set" and the American Humane Association, the organization which oversees animal welfare on film sets, confirms this claim, although they added that they don't have the "jurisdiction or funding to extend that oversight to activities or conditions off set." A spokesman for Jackson said that while no animals were harmed on the set, there were two horses that died outside of production and that those deaths were avoidable. The spokesman said the that the production company moved quickly to improve conditions after the death of the horses and that the other animals' deaths were from natural causes. The animals were reportedly housed at a farm located 186 miles from the main film set and 26 miles from the soundstage that the animal wranglers claim was filled with bluffs, sinkholes, and other "death traps." ‘Smashed’: Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Breakout Performance Posted: 19 Nov 2012 02:23 PM PST "That's the problem with drinking, I thought, as I poured myself a drink. If something bad happens you drink in an attempt to forget; if something good happens you drink in order to celebrate; and if nothing happens you drink to make something happen." ― Charles Bukowski Director James Ponsoldt's first feature-length film, 2006's Off the Black, featured Nick Nolte as a bitter, flustered high school baseball umpire and alcoholic. His second film, Smashed, stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) as Kate Hannah, an elementary school teacher struggling to come to grips with her increasingly troublesome dependency on alcohol, even though her binge-drinking husband Charlie (Aaron Paul, Breaking Bad) doesn't see a problem with it. After a night of heavy drinking, Kate is forced to confront her alcoholism when she vomits in front of her 1st grade class. A precocious young student asks Mrs. Hannah if she's pregnant, and in a moment of panic she explains the sudden, uncontrollable regurgitation as morning sickness. Her boss, Principal Barnes (Megan Mullally), is delighted by the news that Kate is pregnant and buys the lie hook, line, and sinker [...] |
Biopic Film For Former King Of Late Night TV Johnny Carson In The Works Posted: 19 Nov 2012 12:16 PM PST A biopic is in the works for Johnny Carson, the long-running host of The Tonight Show who became an American Institution of television during his reign. CNN reports that the project, which is currently untitled, has been given the go ahead by the Carson Estate to be adapted into a screenplay from the upcoming biography by journalist Bill Zemhe, entitled Carson the Magnificent: An Intimate Portrait. There is still no studio, director or actors attached to the project, but producer Tom Thayer, who just finished a biopic of the Master of Suspense, director Alfred Hitchcock (entitled simply Hitchcock) which stars Anthony Hopkins and will be released shortly, is secure that a project like this will attract the right team of people to bring it up from standard pedestrian typical biopic fare [...] |

The latest came from Carrie Fisher talking about her role in Star Wars: Episode VII, something turned out to just be a joke, and an unenthused Billy Dee Williams being saying he'd come back. Now, there is more to report on as The Incredibles director Brad Bird has addressed his fans who are calling him out to direct Episode VII and how many Star Wars films LucasFilm wants to produce a year. Bird is now a part of an exclusive club whose membership includes Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino, Zack Snyder, and possibly J.J. Abrams. Bird has confirmed that he will NOT be directing Star Wars: Episode VII. He did confirm that his 1952 film starring George Clooney will be under the sci-fi genre. But for anyone who had Bird on their top ten list, you may want to cross his name off now [...] |
