Seth MacFarlane Image

If you thought that Ted, the live-action Mark Wahlberg comedy featuring a foul-mouthed CGI teddy bear, was the last live-action movie from Family Guy and American Dad! creator Seth MacFarlane for a while, it appears you'd be wrong.

Ted, which MacFarlane made his live-action feature directorial debut on and voiced the title character, did huge numbers at the box office ($501 million worldwide on a $50 million budget), especially for an R-rated movie. So now plans are in the works for the next feature. [...]

Comic Review: Green Hornet #30

Green Hornet #30

Colors by Kristy Swan
Letters by Marshall Dillon
Covers by Phil Hester & Stephen Sadowski
Dynamite Entertainment
Release Date: October 31, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

Green Hornet #30 fills in a much needed gap in the current comic market. And that is super heroes solving crimes and fighting bad guys. Other companies have heroes battling heroes, fighting super villains, but this is just back to basics good guys vs. bad guys.

Author Jai Nitz turns in a fun script in this issue. It's PACKED with new twists and turns in the Green Hornet saga. He introduces some new allies for the Hornet, does a great job moving the villains story forward without even having the villain IN THE COMIC. And, last but not least, he changes something in the Green Hornet mythos that has never been done before. So far, I kinda like it. It'll be interesting to see where it goes and if the changes stick. Empowered preview banner

Adam Warren's Empowered is a great series full of action and comedy, about a superhero called Empowered who is just trying to make it in a crazy world. She has to deal with villains who want to tie her up and heroes who just straight-up hate her. Generally, Empowered is published in graphic novel format, but every once in a while, Warren treats his readers to smaller size special issues, which is what we'll get with Empowered Special #3: Hell Bent or Heaven Sent.

In this issue, Empowered takes a trip to a top secret dumping ground for super-tech and has to fight her way through an army of "cyberangels" and "devil mecha." Check out our exclusive 8-page image gallery from the issue here after the jump [...]

Guillermo del Toro Image

We hear about Guillermo del Toro's "next" project fairly often, more times than not proving to not be his next project at all.

Still, it's being reported that the visionary director has set up his next movie with Legendary Pictures, the same studio behind his massive upcoming monsters versus robots flick, Pacific Rim.

The movie is titled Crimson Peak, and will bring the director back to something he's quite familiar with: ghosts. [...]

New ‘Man Of Steel’ Poster Puts Superman In Handcuffs

Man of Steel Header Image

A new poster for Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman movie, Man of Steel, has been released.

In the poster, Superman himself (Henry Cavill) is being escorted by the military while handcuffed. We can only assume this means that these are either kryptonite handcuffs, or that Supes is doing whatever it is that he's doing intentionally. If not, the poster would show him being escorted by the military while handcuffed and laughing hysterically.

You can check out the new poster for Man of Steel by clicking on over to the other side now, and be sure to share what you think is going on here! [...]

Release Date: November 14, 2012

Don't get me wrong. I absolutely LOVE IDW's current G.I. Joe books. And I'm over the moon excited about the relaunch next year. But, once a month, I'm transported back in time and reminded WHY I love this franchise in the first place. And that's all thanks to this book. G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #184 is just another example of that. And c'mon, it's got Roadpig and Zarana on the cover too!!

How awesome is writer Larry Hama? He's been writing this book for THIRTY YEARS (OK, the book wasn't published for a little chunk of that, but still) and he hasn't lost a beat with these characters and this concept. What impresses me most about his writing is that he's able to mix the perfect amount of real life military adventure with the right amount of sci-fi to create situations that are both believable and unbelievable at the same time. Holiday Geek Gift Guide 2012: Books and eBooks

Ho, ho, ho, and a bottle of Red Bull. It's THAT time of the year again and we here at Doom HQ have been busier than migrating elves in Middle Earth cultivating this list of the best books and eBooks of 2012. See below for our Holiday Geek Gift Guide 2012: Books & eBooks.

It seems that 2012 was a good year for rock 'n' roll memoir/biography/holy-shit-I-lived-through-that/hey-we're-still-relevant books because we've got a fairly long list of 'em for people like your cousin Phil who still wears that bogus KISS jersey he bought in the parking lot at NJ's Brendan Byrne Arena back in 1982. And there's lots more geeky awesome gift books in our annual Holiday Geek Gift Guide, including several movie and TV tie-ins; Star Trek Federation: The First 150 Years, which is so hot it made it onto this year's list twice; the Star Trek: The Klingon Bird-Of-Prey Owners' Workshop Manual, an obvious essential for all Bird-Of-Prey owners; picks for the Star Wars, Firefly, and The Avengers fans in your life; a bunch of urban fantasy selections, and a pick from the dudes over at Wizards of the Coast [...]
