Salma Hayek Brings the Quotes of the Day | salma hayek celebrity quotes

On her battle with depression because of skin problems when she was 25:
“You want to talk about bad skin? I had acne. And this acne was so bad it sent me into severe, severe depression. Like I couldn’t leave the house.”

On binge eating during her depression:
“The next stage with that sort of depression is food – too little or too much. Guess what I did? I was fat and broken out. I couldn’t leave the house and I couldn’t pay the rent!”

On cosmetic surgery:
“Botox – trust me, I’ve been tempted, but I resist!”

… says 45 year-old Salma in Lucky Magazine.

David Bowie: Hunky Dory

As part of Amazon's monthly $5 MP3 album deal for March 2012, David Bowie's Hunky Dory is on sale for only $5.

This wonderful 1971 album by music's greatest chameleon, David Bowie, finds him in an early phase of his career. But, it is still a mélange of different sounds and styles that he would find himself interchanging as easily as shedding musical skin later on in his career. Hunky Dory, which contains one of his most well known songs, "Changes," also has tunes as diverse as the cabaret style "Fill Your Heart," the aching "Life on Mars?," the steely knives pointed at the songs "Andy Warhol" and "Song for Bob Dylan," the out and out rocking "Queen Bitch," and the haunting "The Bewlay Brothers."

Browse the main sale page to see the other 99 albums on sale for only $5 each in MP3 format through the end of March 2012.

The Hunger Games: The Film vs The Book

Posted: 30 Mar 2012 05:02 PM PDT

Hunger Games

I read The Hunger Games for a couple of reasons: pop culture relevance and simple curiosity. I wanted to get it read prior to the release of the film, too. The book is simple and incredibly melodramatic, but it's also surprisingly engrossing and the characters are quite well rendered. It feels like a hundred other genre all-ages books I've read and it also lacks a central voice, other than the fact that "bad people suck," to quote a friend. The classic genre films and books of this type had something to say deeper, and at least to the author, more important than just the adventures of so and so.

What this book and film has is a well-developed and interesting female hero in Katniss Everdeen. She's strong and imperfect, but a good role model for young girls, unlike a certain vampire lover we all know too well. Now a good role model for young girls isn't a requirement for me to like a book or movie, but if kids are going to grab onto this story, at least the hero is worth their time [...]

BioShock Banner

Being internet-less for a few days can feel like an eternity when you know how many bits of news and entertainment and information you're missing out on. For me, that was this week.

Of of the gems missed out on earlier this week was this fan-made short prequel to the brilliant video game BioShock, titled New Year's End: A BioShock Short Film, which anyone who's played and loved the games should enjoy watching immensely. [...]

Marvel’s Director Shortlist for ‘Captain America’ Sequel Revealed, Joe Johnston Not On There

Posted: 30 Mar 2012 12:45 PM PDT

With The Avengers set for release a little over a month from now Marvel Studios has good reason to celebrate. A decade ago the idea of getting Earth's mightiest heroes together in one movie was laughable given that the film rights to the various characters were owned by different Hollywood studios who weren't exactly receptive to the idea of a collaboration that would force them to share the potential wealth with their Tinseltown rivals. It wasn't until Marvel formed their own movie division and started financing blockbusters like Iron Man and Thor that the company could finally take control of their celluloid destiny [...]

Blondie: Greatest Hits

As part of Amazon's monthly $5 MP3 album deals for March 2012, Blondie's Greatest Hits is on sale for only $5.

Born from the first wave of New York City punk rock in the mid 1970s, Blondie went from playing CBGB's to touring all around the world in a scant few years. They became a big part of the New Wave sound of the early 1980s, with memorable hit songs as "Call Me," "Heart of Glass," "The Tide is High," and "Rapture." This 19-song collection nicely includes those and other well known hits and not so well known nuggets.

Wait, What?! Eddie Murphy Playing Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito’s Brother In ‘Twins’ Sequel?

Posted: 30 Mar 2012 10:00 AM PDT

Twins

1988's Twins is one of many guilty pleasures born of the '80s that plenty of people have seen and enjoyed for what it is. It's not a movie, however, that anyone ever expected to see a sequel for.

But we should all be familiar with the times we currently live in, and now, over two decades later, a sequel to Twins might just be heading our way.

And what's even more unexpected? It appears as though the hopes for said sequel is to have Eddie Murphy play the third brother to the original's oddball twins, returning stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito. [...]

Warner Bros. Unveils The Official ‘Man of Steel’ Logo

Posted: 30 Mar 2012 09:00 AM PDT

Henry Cavill - Superman

Other than an image released last year of Henry Cavill looking mighty Kryptonian, there hasn't been much seen on the promotional front for Man of Steel, the Zack Snyder-directed reboot of the Superman movie franchise. Now, Warner Bros. has released the film's official logo.

You can check out the image here below.

While there will probably never be a better Superman movie in my lifetime than the 1978 epic original directed by Richard Donner that cast the late Christopher Reeve in the role that would come to define his career (and in a sense his life), I am looking forward to seeing how Snyder, co-writers David Goyer and Jonathan Nolan, producer Christopher Nolan, and their amazing cast attempt to make the Last Son of Krypton a 21st century badass to compete on the big screen with his DC brother Batman and the Mighty Marvel Movie Bullpen [...]

‘Mars Attacks’ Musical Coming To Broadway

Posted: 30 Mar 2012 08:00 AM PDT

Mars Attacks: 21st Century Slaughter

Mars Attacks, the famous science-fiction trading card set, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. And in doing so, its original creator and licensor Topps, one of the biggest companies of trading cards in the world, is partnering with comic book publishers IDW to take on a massive venture, taking the aliens attacks Earth story that it's based on to Broadway as a musical.

This big-budget musical, entitled Mars Attacks: 21st Century Slaughter, is to be written and produced by comic book veteran John Layman (Chew, Marvel Zombies vs. The Army of Darkness). In a statement released by Topps and IDW, Layman describes the undertaking of this project as an upbeat, sci-fi version of West Side Story. He also went on to say that like any good Broadway show, there will be catchy songs as well in the production [...]

March Is Metal: Anthrax ‘Among The Living’ CD For $5.99

Anthrax - Among The Living

Amazon has declared March Is Metal and is offering hundreds of metal albums at low prices. It doesn't come much more metal than Anthrax and their third album, Among The Living. The CD is available right now for only $5.99.

It's impossible to keep still to this album; it makes you want to jump around and bang your head. Recorded by what many consider to be the 'classic' Anthrax line-up of Scott Ian, Joey Belladonna, Frank Bello, Charlie Benante, and Dan Spitz, tracks like "Indians," "Caught In A Mosh," "Efilnikufesin (N.F.L.)," and not forgetting "I Am The Law" have become live staples in the 25 years since it was first released.

If you would like a digital copy of Among The Living, the MP3 download is available at $8.91 [...]
