Game Review: Prince Of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (Playstation 3) Posted: 30 Jun 2010 11:20 PM PDT The latest installment in the highly-popular Prince of Persia franchise comes along with the recently released summer blockbuster movie adaptation, but they are not the same. The best decision that Ubisoft could have been made with this new game is to pass over the opportunity to use the star-power of Jake Gyllenhaal, and stand strong in the world and stories that they've created. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands isn't a prequel or a sequel but an interquel, taking place in between Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. The story follows our nimble prince as he heads to the palace of his brother, Malik. When he arrives, he sees that the palace is under attack by some treasure-seeking enemies. After meeting up with Malik, the prince discovers his brothers intent to unleash the mystical Solomon's army to help him in defeating his palace's attackers and save his people. The prince insists this is not a good idea considering the uncertainty of a force such as Solomon's army, but Malik proceeds with confidence. [...] |
Looking Back On ‘Back To The Future’ Posted: 30 Jun 2010 08:12 PM PDT 1985: eccentric scientist Dr. Emmett 'Doc' Brown (Christopher Lloyd) has turned his glorious DeLorean sports car into a time machine. After an attack by disgruntled Libyan terrorists, Doc is killed in a shower of machine gun fire. His young friend [no funny business] Marty (Michael J. Fox) escapes in the DeLorean and upon reaching 88 MPH is transported to the year 1955 -- the year his parents met and Doc invented time travel. Can Marty convince the Doc of 30 years ago that he is really from the future and get him to help him to get back to the future? More than that, can he spurn the advances of his teenage mother? Hold on, I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's go back in time. When a movie begins with the words 'Steven Spielberg Presents' as far am I'm concerned it might as well be stamped with 'you are gonna love this', because far more often than not, it's true. This month marks the 25th anniversary of one of the greatest movies of all time that begins with such a statement: Back to the Future. In the quarter of a century that has passed since its opening weekend on July 3, 1985, there are not many movie fans who haven't seen Back To The Future. And I'm sure the number is even smaller of the people who do not like this movie [...] |
Wonder Woman Gets A New Costume & Origin Story Posted: 30 Jun 2010 05:26 PM PDT After years of having the same look, Wonder Woman is getting a makeover. In Wonder Woman #600 of Wonder Woman, released in comic shops today, the Amazon Princess gets a modern redesign of her legendary costume. The costume, redesigned by DC Comics Co-Publisher Jim Lee, coincides with the start of a new creative team on the book as well as a new adventure for Wonder Woman. The new team consists of writer J. Michael Straczynski and artists Don Kramer and Michael Babinski. Check out Wonder Woman in her new costume here at right (click image for larger, full view). The direction for the book puts Wonder Woman in a modern era where her original origin story has been altered. The world she would have known is now destroyed and her Amazon race is in danger of extinction. Wonder Woman's world is now in an urban setting where she knows little about her previous life and she will have to fight to survive [...] |
Johnny Depp Is A Fear And Loathing Lizard In Gore Verbinski’s ‘Rango’ Trailer Posted: 30 Jun 2010 03:14 PM PDT The first trailer for Gore Verbinksi's new animated movie Rango has been released online. The movie features Johny Depp in the lead role, a lizard named Rango who's struggling with an identity crisis. This is just a teaser trailer, but you'll get a good feel of the movie. The animation is solid and you'll hear a little of the not-so-Johnny-Depp-sounding lizard. The thing that will really stand out to some fans is the nod to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and the famed author Hunter S. Thompson. Depp played a Thompson-esq character in Fear and Loathing, and will again in the upcoming book adaptation, The Rum Diaries. Find yourself and head on over to the other side to check out the first teaser trailer for Rango. Along with Depp, the movie features the voice acting talents of Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin, Bill Nighy, Stephen Root, Ray Winstone, Beth Grant, Ned Beatty, Harry Dean Stanton, and Alfred Molina. You’ll Never Believe What The Title For ‘Final Destination 5′ Could Be Posted: 30 Jun 2010 12:21 PM PDT Bloody-Disgusting has uncovered a bit of information regarding Warner Brothers Pictures fifth installment in the Final Destination franchise. And though we don't know much about the movie itself, what we read here could just say a lot about what direction the horror flick is heading in. We won't waste your time -- let's get right to it. According to the source, Warner Bros. is currently leaning toward calling their new movie 5NAL DESTINATION. Yes, that's actually what words are indicating could be the new title. Five-nal Destination. Seriously. Now, this sounds like it's only the "tentative" title so far, which means they're leaning toward it but nothing is 100% set in stone. This is a bit of good news because that title is going to get absolutely eviscerated by everyone who reads about it (eviscerate away in the comments below!), and hopefully the studio will see this and change it before looking too stupid. Sony Chooses Josh Hutcherson To Play Peter Parker In Their ‘Spider-Man’ Reboot Posted: 30 Jun 2010 11:00 AM PDT It's been a bit of a wild ride since Spider-Man 3 came and went, leaving a sour taste in the mouths of fans near and far. Spider-Man 4 was well into development when Sony suddenly decided to throw it all away and start over fresh. Since then we've learned that (500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb would be replacing Sam Raimi, but who would take on the coveted role of Peter Parker for this new Spidey vision? Many names, as expected, have been rumored over the past months, but now it looks as though one name stands alone: Josh Hutcherson. According to Blue Sky Disney (via Latino Review), Sony has chosen the young actor after many candidates were screen tested for the role. Hutcherson is not yet 18, but has already done quite a bit. Notable movies that he has appeared in include Zathura, Bridge to Terabithia, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant. He's also set to star in a Center of the Earth sequel and the Red Dawn remake. [...] |
Ape Uprising Begins With Andy Serkis In ‘Planet Of The Apes’ Prequel Posted: 30 Jun 2010 09:01 AM PDT When it comes to computer animated primates, Andy Serkis is no rookie. In addition to his wonderful work bringing Gollum to life in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Serkis was the man behind the motion capture creation of Kong in Peter Jackson's King Kong. Now comes news that the actor is ready to become ape once again. In a Twitter message from 20th Century's Fox's vice president of corporate communications, Chris Petrikin, it was revealed that Serkis would be playing Caeser in their Planet of the Apes prequel, Rise of the Apes. The VP said "This is cool: Gollum reteams with Weta. Andy Serkis to star as Caesar in Rise of the Apes,' portraying chimp who leads the simian revolt." In the movie, Caeser begins as one of the apes being used by a scientist (James Franco) to try and discover a cure for Alzheimer's Disease. When he shows incredible progress and even begins to rapidly evolve, the scientist takes the ape home to protect him. Before long, it's realized that Caeser is only the just the start as a new breed of intelligent ape is quickly growing in numbers. [...] |
