Geek Gear: Darth Vader Meets Cobra Commander In ‘Dark Ssside’ Posted: 30 Dec 2010 04:53 AM PST The t-shirt deal of the day over at RIPT Apparel is the Star Wars - GI JOE mash-up "Dark Ssside." The tee, by artist Brinkerhoff, went on sale at RIPT today, Thursday, December 30, 2010, at midnight CST, and will continue for 24 hours from then, and once it's over, it will not be sold on the site anymore. The t-shirt is available in men's and women's sizes in black for $10 each. Kids sizes are $15 (Boys, Girls, and Toddler, all black); Onesies are $18 (in black). You can also get the design on a Hoodie for $38 (in black in Men/Unisex sizes). The design is a mash-up of popular villains Darth Vader of Star Wars and Cobra Commander of GI JOE. They've been spotted together before, but now they've become one! [...] |
NY Times Snubs Ronnie James Dio, Peter Steele & Paul Gray In Memorial Video Tribute Posted: 29 Dec 2010 06:20 PM PST The New York Times released an online hodgepodge of musicians we lost during 2010, and have omitted three major losses during the year that should anger metalheads across the Earth. In their year review, the Times has snubbed Ronnie James Dio (Black Sabbath, Dio), Peter Steele (Type O Negative), and Paul Gray (Slipknot). You can view the New York Times montage over at their site if you can be bothered. I'm not embedding it here, because for my part, I'm disgusted they've overlooked three significant musicians -- presumably just because they're from the metal genre. The grounds upon which I make this assumption are that there is no metal whatsoever in their "tribute." Rock, Soul, Pop, R&B, Hip Hop, Post-Punk are all included in the company of Funk, Disco, and others. Metal (and related genres) are nowhere to be seen [...] |
MP3 Album Deal: Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ Posted: 29 Dec 2010 05:40 PM PST The MP3 album deal of the day at Amazon today is Nirvana's Nevermind for only $3.99. Released in 1991, Nevermind was the band's second album and what propelled Nirvana to stardom with their big hit "Smells Like Teen Spirit." I can easily say that every song on Nevermind is a good one, but if you need to justify the four bucks... There's 12 songs on the album and sold separately they're $.99 each, so you're saving nearly $8 by buying it now on sale. Also, all you need are four good songs to justify the price -- I already said they're all good but here you go: There's the aforementioned "Teen Spirit," along with "Come As You Are," "Drain You," and "On A Plain," and I'll tell you, it was really hard for me to choose those four songs amongst the twelve [...] |
Geek Art: The Beatles In Lord Of The Rings In ‘Moria Road’ Posted: 29 Dec 2010 02:11 PM PST Believe it or not, there was a time when The Beatles wanted to star in a live-action adaptation of Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, with Stanley Kubrick to direct. The cast would be Paul McCartney as Frodo Baggins, Ringo Starr as Sam Gamgee (both as hobbits), George Harrison as the wizard Gandalf, and John Lennon as the creature Gollum, but either Kubrick wasn't on board for it or Tolkien killed it (it's unclear which). Obviously, that would have been an interesting project that unfortunately we'll never get to see. But artist Shane Parker has decided to give us his depiction of what the Beatles in the LoTR could have looked like with his Abbey Road-LoTR mash-up "Moria Road." [...] |
