SDCC 2011: Twilight Breaking Dawn, part 1 panel: Robert Pattinson

Most people that don't attend Comic-Con in San Diego probably won't know this, but when any film in the Twilight franchise has a presence at the Con, the fans come out in droves. And not only do they show up, they show up days in advance and camp out on the line to get into Hall H, the 6,500-seater where most movie studios bring their latest offerings.

This year, Summit Entertainment is promoting The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1, so of course, a campsite was erected and eager fans awaited their chance to see the film's stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, as well as exclusive footage from the upcoming film.

Those devoted fans were rewarded with said exclusive footage, which you can read a description of here below (we also have tons of pics of the stars from the panel). The footage showed Bella and Edward arriving to their honeymoon destination, so we got to see a shirtless Edward and a disrobing Bella, and some other stuff. There was also a scene that wasn't in the books of Jacob confronting his former tribe members after aligning with the Cullen vampire clan [...]

Posted: 21 Jul 2011 09:30 PM PDT

Paramount Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for the highly anticipated third film in the hit "found footage" horror franchise, Paranormal Activity.

The movie, simply called Paranormal Activity 3, continues the scares as home video footage shows unthinkably evil happenings. As far as an official synopsis goes, details have not yet been shared, but as you'll see, the movie takes place (at least partially) during young Katie's childhood in 1988, and shows the roots of where her very haunted future begin.

Click on over to the other side now to check out the teaser trailer!

Paranormal Activity 3 is directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, the filmmaking duo behind the recent indie hit, Catfish. [...]

Captain America 101: A Crash Course In The Terminology and Characters

Posted: 21 Jul 2011 08:37 PM PDT

Week of Geek: Captain America: The First Avenger

The world loves superhero movies. For every release, it seems that audiences can't wait to see the next superhero flick. And see it you will. Because if there's one thing that people love more than the average movie, it's Harry Potter. But now that Harry Potter's done, you have time for more superhero movies! Yay! But, if you're anything like the rest of the world's population, based on sales, you probably don't read a lot of comics and you might be a little confused by the convoluted plot lines and science fiction elements you see in these films. It may be a little tough for the average moviegoer, but that's why I'm here!

So, in honor of this week's Captain America: The First Avenger, I'm going to take the time to sit down with each and every one of you in a feature I like to call Captain America 101 to discuss some of the characters and terminology that you'll be seeing in this weekend's #1 movie, that is, unless the world decides to see Harry Potter again, but I digress.

Let's get to it, soldier! [...]

Relativity Media Announces Live–Action ‘Voltron’ Based On ‘Defender Of The Universe’

Posted: 21 Jul 2011 08:16 PM PDT

Relativity Media has announced that they have optioned the feature film rights to Voltron from World Event Productions, and that they plan on making a live–action feature based on the popular 1984 animated series, Voltron: Defender of the Universe. The hopes are that this can turn into a big new franchise for the studio.

Charles Roven and Richard Suckle of Atlas Entertainment brought the opportunity to Relativity, and they will act as shepherds to the development of the movie.

Voltron follows five young warriors who all pilot powerful high–tech Robot Lions that, when necessary, can join together to create a massive force called Voltron. The team uses these robots and the ability to form into Voltron to defend the galaxy from any threats that may arise.

The animated series' original run was only from 1984 to 1985, but the show and characters have remained popular over time, with new animated series arriving in 1998 and again right here in 2011 on Nicktoons. Movie adaptations of the series have been talked about for a long while, but nothing has ever quite worked out. [...]

New Line Opts Not To Remake ‘Escape From New York’

Posted: 21 Jul 2011 07:10 PM PDT

New Line Cinema and Warner Brothers Pictures have decided not to remake the Kurt Russell cult classic, Escape From New York, which they had been developing for some time now.

The powers that be at said companies have chosen to let their option on the property to expire, basically, and now the rights are up for grabs for another studio that may have a vision for bringing Snake Plissken back to life on the Big Screen.

The movie is set in a disastrous futuristic New York City, where the city has been fortified, locked down, and turned into a maximum security prison. When Air Force One forcefully goes down, the president is forced to bail from the plane, landing him right into the heart of the prison, making him a major hostage for the criminals to use to their benefit. This is where Russell's Mr. Plissken—a former war hero–turned–bank–robber—is offered a deal: rescue the president and return him safely, and he will earn his freedom. But to ensure his commitment to the job, Snake is injected with a tiny–yet–powerful explosive that will be detonated if he fails or tries bail out. [...]

SDCC 2011: DC Comics: The New 52 Panel

Week of Geek: SDCC 2011 Coverage - San Diego Comic Con

While taking a beating at the DC Comics New 52 panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2011, DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Dan DiDio offered up a few bits of interesting information that did get reaction -- good and bad -- from the packed house.

DiDio question after question regarding Wally West, a staple in the Flash family that has been missing from the DC Universe for quite some time, at least in a major role. DiDio explained that the main goal of the new 52 is to focus the stories on one character making it easier for new readers to jump into the books. For now, and the foreseeable future that character, when it comes to Flash, is Barry Allen. Many audience members complained that there are still going to be multiple Robins, so there should be multiple Flash's. DiDio stuck to his guns though. In an attempt to assuage some tensions about the history of the characters, DiDio and team explained that the histories that we all know and love aren't being forgotten, just retold and modernized in one issue, the first of these new series [...]

SDCC 2011: Cartoon Network’s ‘Adventure Time’ Comes To Comic-Con (Photos)

Week of Geek: SDCC 2011 Coverage - San Diego Comic Con

Adventure Time at SDCC 2011

Adventure Time, the hit cartoon from the brilliant mind of Pendleton Ward, has come to San Diego Comic-Con International 2011 in full force.

Not only has Cartoon Network rented out a pizza parlor in downtown San Diego to promote Adventure Time, but they've also paid more than two dozen boyish-looking dudes to dress up like the show's main [human] character Finn (Jeremy Shada). (Yet, I've only spotted one real-life Jake (John DiMaggio a.k.a the voice of wise cracking robot Bender on Futurama), the shape-shifting yellow dog who is also Finn's best friend -- as shown in the images below.)

For those who have absolutely no idea why this is so amusing to myself and several others, let me explain. Adventure Time is a cartoon about a boy and his magical best friend dog and the awesome adventures they have in the mystical Land of Ooo. Mostly, these adventures consist of saving princesses and fighting heinous villain types like the Ice King. There are plenty of talking pastries, a Rainicorn (Rainbow Unicorn), and tons of guest celebrity voices like Henry Rollins, Mark Hamill, George Takei, Lou Ferrigno, and Erik Estrada [...]

Some more important characters set to be introduced in season 2 of HBO's hit new fantasy series, Game of Thrones, now have actors to portray them.

Live Feed is reporting that the characters Stannis Baratheon, Davos Seaworth, and Melisandre have all been cast. Stannis, of course, is the biggest of the three, being the brother of King Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy), and the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. HBO has announced that they have cast Stephen Dillane in the role. Dillane has previously appeared in numerous roles, including Hamlet, Spy Game, The Hours, King Arthur, and the HBO miniseries, John Adams, where he played Thomas Jefferson.

Also newly cast is Liam Cunningham, who's set to play Davos Seaworth, and Carice van Houten, who was cast in the role of Melisandre. Cunningham is known for his roles in Jude, The Wind that Shakes the Barley, Centurion, and Clash of the Titans. Carice van Houten is known for her work in Black Book, Valkyrie, and Repo Men, to name a few. [...]

SDCC 2011: Stay Tuned All Weekend For Our Awesome Comic-Con Coverage

Posted: 21 Jul 2011 01:30 PM PDT

Week of Geek: SDCC 2011 Coverage - San Diego Comic Con

Geeks of Doom is back in San Diego this weekend to cover all the best of Comic-Con International 2011. First of all, don't let the lack of support from major movie studios make you think there isn't anything exciting going on, because there is.

Photos from the Convention Floor
While Marvel may have canceled its plans to hold a panel on its new movies, the house of ideas is well represented on the convention floor. The company set up a full scale replica of a S.H.I.E.L.D. ready room, with agents stationed on either side and a beautiful The Avengers movie logo hanging from the top.

There's also some ridiculously morbid television shows that went the extra mile to give fans excellent photo opportunities. The folks from Spartacus built a scene from the show, complete with decapitated head and roman pillars. But better than that, The Walking Dead has the familiar rooftop scene set up. The door is chained up while hordes of zombie limbs are poking out and pushing the door ajar. (It's super creepy and we have video we'll post of it.) [...]

IDW Expands ‘Artist Edition’ Line to Wally Wood’s EC Stories

Wally Wood HeaderFollowing up this weekend's release of Walter Simonson's Thor: Artist Edition, IDW has announced an expansion to their exclusive line of reprints with Wally Wood's EC Stories: Artist Edition.

EC, or Entertaining Comics, was a comic book publishing company that focused mainly on crime, horror, military, and science fiction stories. And Wally Wood's stories were some of the most celebrated. IDW's Artist Editions are oversize hardcovers that feature full page presentation of the artwork in the same size of the artist's original work. The original artwork is scanned to preserve the integrity of the work for the highest quality reproductions possible. Artists tend to sell their art pages through dealers and shows, so if you're looking for a nice collection of EC stories, then this isn't for you. However, if you want to have a beautiful, gigantic, art book that features some of the best comic art in the history of the medium, then make sure to pick this up.
