And Howard Marks lived one of those very lives. Better known as his alias, and subsequent title of this recently released Bernard Rose film, Mr. Nice, Marks was both a drug dealer and ultimately a spy for the British government. Toss in some relationships with various women and even an IRA member, and you have a life that is more than worthy of a big screen adaptation. Drugs, women, espionage, what's not to like? Mr. Nice, that's what [...] |
Posted: 19 Oct 2011 08:48 PM PDT Dream House Directed by Jim Sheridan Written by David Loucka Starring Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts, Rachel Weisz, Marton Csokas, Claire Geare, Taylor Geare, Elias Koteas Release Date: September 30, 2011 Jim Sheridan's Dream House is a distorting and turning journey of mind-bending proportions, taking elements of popular horror fiction and re-energizing them as 21st century psychological thriller fares. Featuring Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz, it takes some unexpected detours, complete with some commendable performances. (A side note: Before I do continue though, let me preface the rest of this review with the fact that I did not see any trailers for Dream House before seeing the film. I've been told that Morgan Creek films blew it by including some significant plot revelations in the trailer, so I went into the film fresh - so if you're interested in seeing this movie, avoid all the trailers!) Actress Suing Amazon & IMDb For $1 Million For Revealing Her True Age Posted: 19 Oct 2011 07:15 PM PDT An actress—who's choosing to stay anonymous (for obvious reasons) and going by the trusty fallback name Jane Doe—is suing Amazon.com and IMDb for $1 million for revealing her age against her wishes and refusing to change it when she complained. Her reasoning? She says "In the entertainment industry, youth is king." And the complaint filed expands on that, stating that "If one is perceived to be 'over-the-hill,' i.e. approaching 40, it is nearly impossible for an up-and-coming actress, such as the Plaintiff, to get work as she is thought to have less of an 'upside' therefore casting directors, producers, directors, agents/managers, etc. do not give her the same opportunities, regardless of her appearance and talent." Continue reading if interested in reading the complaint in its entirety. In addition to the $1 million—being sought after for breach of contract, fraud, and violation of privacy, specifically—she's also seeking a restraining order against IMDb, as well. [...] |
Scream Awards 2011: Watch Daniel Radcliffe In New ‘The Woman In Black’ Trailer Posted: 19 Oct 2011 06:18 PM PDT At last night's Scream Awards, Spike TV premiered a creepy and atmospheric (but brief) new trailer for the upcoming supernatural thriller The Woman in Black right after star Daniel Radcliffe accepted the award for Ultimate SCREAM on behalf of the Harry Potter film series (watch video of that here). Check out the new trailer here below [...] |
‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Prologue Before ‘Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol’ IMAX Screenings? Posted: 19 Oct 2011 04:45 PM PDT Back in December 2007 Warner Bros. sent out the opening bank robbery sequence from the then-forthcoming The Dark Knight attached to IMAX screenings of I Am Legend. It was a risky move on the studio's part and it didn't take long for the footage to leak online, but it paid off splendidly the next year and was one of the highlights of Warner's aggressive marketing campaign for the movie, particularly as it provided an early showcase for the production's beautiful IMAX cinematography (several scenes from the movie were shot in the format). Therefore, it would make sense for the studio to go with what has proven successful in the past in regards to the marketing for next summer's The Dark Knight Rises [...] |
‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Wins Most Anticipated Movie At The 2011 Scream Awards Posted: 19 Oct 2011 03:49 PM PDT Spike TV hosted their annual Scream Awards this past weekend that showcases the best in horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and comics. And the award for the Most Anticipated Movie of 2012 category obviously went to the only 2012 movie that is on my radar, The Dark Knight Rises. I mean, really, how could it have gone to anything else? Is there even another movie coming out that year? But seriously, The Dark Knight Rises is easily at the top section of most people's list for next year, so it's not a surprise that this film was chosen. What was a surprise, however was the fact that Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary "The Man" Oldman, and Anne Hathaway showed up to accept the award. In the video, which you can watch here below, Hathaway gives an acceptance speech on behalf of the cast and crew of the movie while showing her enthusiasm for playing the role of Catwoman and also doing a hilarious impersonation of Christian Bale's Batman [...] |
Must See: Teenage Mutant Ninja Noses Posted: 19 Oct 2011 02:49 PM PDT This...could be the greatest thing ever made. Yes, ladies and gentleman, it's time for another internet gem worthy of good ol' fashioned hyperbole, and you can see why. A couple of weeks ago, someone started a new Tumblr page called Teenage Mutant Ninja Noses, and it is exactly like it sounds. It was realized that the human nose looks remarkably like the head of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle when given the right makeover, and, since its inception, many different noses of both the celebrity and non–celebrity variety have been transformed into our favorite reptilian martial arts masters...and some of them are just fantastic. Be sure to head on over to the other side now to see some favorites, and hit the source link below for lots more! [...] |
Fox Developing ‘Zombieland’ TV Series; ‘Zombieland 2′ Dead? Posted: 19 Oct 2011 12:10 PM PDT It's being reported that Fox Broadcasting, along with Sony Pictures Television, is developing a new TV series based on the hit 2009 horror–comedy, Zombieland, with screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick involved as well. The movie starred Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin as survivors of the zombie apocalypse who cross paths on their way to different destinations. For those who don't know, CBS initially ordered a pilot episode of a Zombieland series back in 2005 but that eventually fell through, opening the door for a movie which went on to become a surprise hit, bringing in over $100 million in worldwide box office. At the moment, the plan appears to be to jump on the already existing popularity of zombies on TV seen with AMC's The Walking Dead, which wasn't there in '05. But instead of competing with that show, the proposed Zombieland series would be more of a comedy and each episode would only run 30 minutes. If all goes well, the hopes are to have the show ready for the 2012–2013 season. [...] |
Comic Review: Transformers #28 Posted: 19 Oct 2011 11:00 AM PDT Transformers #28 Story by Mike Costa, James Roberts Script by Mike Costa Art by Livio Ramondelli Letters by Shawn Lee Covers by Linio Ramondelli IDW Publishing Release Date: October 19, 2011 Cover Price: $3.99 After reading issue Transformers #27 and LOVING it, I have to admit, Transformers #28 was a bit of a let down. It was by no means terrible or unreadable or anything even close to that. But, it did have a couple of problems that kept me from enjoying it as much as I wanted to. Story-wise, this issue is a lot of fun. Cover to cover action and it features what most of us Transformers fans love -- no humans! Mike Costa and James Roberts deliver what every TF fan wants -- all-out war between the Autobots and Decepticons -- with a few really nice twists thrown in for good measure. All of our favorite characters each get an equal amount of "screen time," while the story advances at a good pace. Fans of this series will definitely enjoy this chapter in the Chaos storyline [...] |
Scream Awards 2011: See David Hasselhoff In The ‘Piranha 3DD’ Teaser Trailer Posted: 19 Oct 2011 09:23 AM PDT At the Spike TV 2011 Scream Awards, Piranha 3D won the award for Most Memorable Mutilation for the scene where the girl gets scalped alive by a motorboat. To accept the award was none other than Scalped Alive By Motorboat Girl herself, a massive digitally projected talking head which arose from the pool of water on stage, who, while honored and excited to accept the award, went on to introduce the world premiere of the teaser trailer for Piranha 3D. Watch the teaser trailer here below [...] |
The GoD List: Comics For October 19, 2011 Posted: 19 Oct 2011 08:39 AM PDT Each and every week "The Best There Was" Henchman21 and "The Best There Ever Will Be" MK2FAC3 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn't? So, let's take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we'll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of October 19, 2011. Single issues and trades, they're all here. This week on The GoD List, "The HenchFac3" trade war stories and colds after a rough and tough experience in Gotham City. Gotham City Comic-Con was a dark and rainy couple of days before it turned into New York Comic-Con on Saturday, but NYCC provided us both with a lot of excitement for this week's new comics. And what are these new comics that we are excited about? Well, I'll give you a hint... there will be zombies, heroes, marvels, and other stuff that I can't come up with right now. But don't you worry! We're back in action like the con crud after two pills of extra weak pain reliever! Also, Henchy didn't use enough hand sanitizer this weekend [...] |
Paramount May Film ‘Transformers 4′ and ‘Transformers 5′ Back-To-Back Posted: 19 Oct 2011 08:00 AM PDT It's a popular way to save some money, knocking two movies out in one long grueling shoot, and it's something that's now being considered for Transformers 4 and Transformers 5. Hasbro, the toy company behind the Transformers brand, sees massive dollar signs with the third movie in the film franchise, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, recently pulling in over $1 billion worldwide, as any business would. So, as was just reported, they're now in "active discussions" with Paramount Pictures, director Michael Bay, and producer Steven Spielberg to figure out what the next step for the franchise will be and the possibility of producing two films in one shot. Reports are that screenwriter Ehren Kruger has ideas in mind for the next two movies that Paramount likes, and filming them back–to–back would greatly help in cutting costs and the two or so years it typically takes a big blockbuster sequel individually to get made. Whether Bay will return once again to direct is still unknown—it's not completely out of the question yet but he will definitely be acting as an executive producer no matter what. [...] |
Comic Review: G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #171 Posted: 19 Oct 2011 07:38 AM PDT G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #171 Written by Larry Hama Art by S L Gallant Inks by Gary Erskine Colors by J. Brown Letters by Neil UyeTake Covers by Larry Hama, S L Gallant, Gary Erskine, Herb Trimpe IDW Publishing Release Date: October 19, 2011 Cover Price: $3.99 Rest easy, GI Joe fans, you CAN go home again. At least, as far as the GI Joe comics are concerned. I really believe IDW should get some kind of special recognition for bringing BACK 20-year-old continuity in a time in comics where continuity barely holds up from one issue to the next. G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #171 might frustrate some newer or younger comics readers, simply for the fact that this IS a continuation of a 20-year-old series and it's written like it. Storytelling in comics is a lot different now than it was then. What I love about this comic is that it IS written as an old school comic. You get a brief recap within the first few story pages, but other than that, author Larry Hama assumes that you've read previous issues and know what's going on, and it doesn't hurt the book one bit [...] |
