Marvel Takes Digital Comics To The Next Level With ‘ReEvolution’ Posted: 12 Mar 2012 07:00 PM PDT At SXSW Marvel Entertainment shared its plans for the future of digital. The plans came off a little convoluted, but mostly exciting. But they only came off convoluted because Marvel isn't sharing absolutely everything just yet. The beans will get spilled soon as their entire initiative (nudge nudge wink wink) begins on April 4th coinciding with the release of Avengers VS X-Men #1, when they roll out Infinite versions of their comics. The entire plan has been dubbed ReEvolution. "Marvel's always led graphic fiction industry in digital media innovation and the Marvel ReEvolution is a quantum leap into the future of publishing," said Dan Buckley. Publisher & President of the Print, Animation & Digital Divisions, Marvel Worldwide, Inc. [...] |
‘Maleficent’ Starts Filming In June With Angelina Jolie; Elle Fanning In Talks Posted: 12 Mar 2012 06:00 PM PDT Last we heard of the Walt Disney retelling of their animated classic Sleeping Beauty, titled Maleficent, was word back in January that a director had been chosen in Robert Stromberg. Now comes word that the movie is just about ready to begin production, with filming now scheduled to start in June. Angelina Jolie stars in the live-action movie, which, as the title indicates, will tell the Sleeping Beauty fable from the point of the villainess Maleficent. [...] |
Check Out This Preview Of Brian K. Vaughan’s ‘Saga #1′ Posted: 12 Mar 2012 05:00 PM PDT Brian K. Vaughan has spent the last few years as a writer for the television series Lost, but before his move to Hollywood, the writer was best known as the creator of some of the best comic books series of the past decade, like Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina, Marvel's Runaways. Since Lost wrapped in 2009, Vaughan's been working on various projects -- an original story called Roundtable, along with big-screen adaptations of some of his own comics, along with the screenplay for Stephen King's Under the Dome film. But while Vaughan has had great success with movies and television thus far, I have to say - we miss him in comics!!! Which is why it's wonderful news that Vaughan is currently working on a new series for Image Comics called Saga, along with artist Fiona Staples. Saga #1 will be released this Wednesday, March 14, and you can check out the full cover and a 4-page preview from the issue here below [...] |
LCS 2012: Support Your Local Comic Shop Posted: 12 Mar 2012 04:00 PM PDT If you haven't been living under a rock for the past few weeks, chances are you have heard about the latest social issue flooding the Internet, the media, and hipster activists everywhere. Well, this geek sat down and thought to himself, "How can I make a difference for people I care about, and things I care about?" Folks, here's my answer: LCS 2012. Basically what I'm proposing is that if you buy comics (and if you're a reader of Geeks of Doom, that's a pretty solid bet), I urge you to do as I do -- Support your local comic shop. Local comic shops are very high on the list of endangered geeks species. "They're just another business," I hear you say. But even as you say that, you know that's not true. Local comic shops are something so much more than just a business, and they need our help [...] |
The Geeks Of Doom Round Up 8: Men In Black III and The Trammps Posted: 12 Mar 2012 03:00 PM PDT The 8th episode of The Geeks Of Doom Round Up is here, and Greg takes a look at the trailer for Men In Black III, directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, and starring Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, and Josh Brolin. For our music selection this week, Andy remembers Jimmy Ellis from The Trammps who sadly passed away this week, and in tribute plays a mashup of "Disco Inferno" entitled "Reggae Inferno." Greg also announces a new podcast project called Disquisition, to be launched this week. Later, we evaluate the merits of Metallica's new 3D movie to be directed by Nimrod Antal. And perhaps it's futile, for we might all be dead by the time it comes out thanks to the new robotic Cheetah developed by DARPA recently - these things will kill us all! Posted: 12 Mar 2012 02:00 PM PDT The Lost Goddess By Tom Knox Viking Press Release date: February 2, 2012 Hardcover | Kindle Edition The Lost Goddess is the latest thrilling adventure from author Tom Knox whereupon we follow young American archeologist Julia Kerrigan as she unearths ancient skulls in France; British photographer Jake Thirby, who decides he needs to do more important work than snapping shots of local Far East exotica for a coffee table book; and Chemda Tek, who's on a quest to find out exactly what the Khmer Rouge did to her grandmother. All of this has all of them literally running for their lives. The trouble begins when Julia's fellow archeologists start dying in hideously savage ways. Meanwhile, halfway around the world, Jake and Chemda's research team is also being hunted down and eliminated in similar fashion. Could it be just a coincidence that all of them are on a quest to unearth long-buried evil? Will any of them survive long enough to share what they've learned with the rest of the world? You'll have to read The Lost Goddess to find out and believe me, you won't be disappointed [...] |

Digital Comics Deal: Batman Arkham City Collected Kindle Edition Posted: 12 Mar 2012 12:00 PM PDT The collected Kindle edition of the Batman: Arkham City mini-series is currently available on Amazon for a low price of $9.99. I've been made aware of the fact that this comic was not on everybody's radar when it was released, so it's been tasked upon me to let all of you about this sale that's currently going on. It's honestly a really good sale, at that. The standard retail price for the Kindle edition of this book is $19.99, so it's a ten dollar savings. Good deal, right? Well, those are just the specifics of the sale. Let's talk about the comic for a moment, shall we? [...] |
Max Landis Set To Write ‘Chronicle 2′ Posted: 12 Mar 2012 11:00 AM PDT When you make a movie for $12 million and it goes on to score over $105 million worldwide (and counting) at the box office, you're going to make a sequel to that movie. Every time. Such is the case with Chronicle, the found footage movie about a trio of friends who gain superpowers, the often humorous learning curve that comes with mastering said powers, and the eventual abuse of power that gets them into trouble. [...] |
Comic Review: The Lone Ranger #3 Posted: 12 Mar 2012 09:27 AM PDT The Lone Ranger #3 Written by Ande Parks Pencils by Esteve Polls Colors by Marcelo Pinto Letters by Simon Bowland Cover by Francesco Francavilla Dynamite Entertainment Release Date: March 7, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 The Lone Ranger #3 could be the last issue of the series and I really wouldn't care. OK, I'd care A LOT. But in a different way. The creative team has packed everything that I've wanted this comic to be into just three issues. I'm happy as a clam all ready. What more do I need? I'm sure I'll find out in about a month. Someone get writer Ande Parks to Chicago so I can buy him a drink. I know, I know, a lot of you think I'm just paying lip service to the guy, but if you actually took the time to read the book, you'd understand. As I mentioned before, in just three issues he's delivered on everything that I'd wanted out of the Lone Ranger comic. Heck, he even threw in my favorite move from western movie -- the punch a guy with one hand and and catch his gun with the other movie. Classic [...] |
Watch This ‘Sherlock: The Animated Series’ Video Posted: 12 Mar 2012 08:01 AM PDT The Uniblogger came upon this fan video of a would-be animated series based on the BBC's television show Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Dr. Watson. Watch the short video here below. The video uses sound clips from Sherlock, along with music from Batman: The Brave and the Bold, and it's pretty awesome, and damn it'd be cool to see more [...] |
