Kenneth Branagh Now Directing The Untitled Jack Ryan Reboot Posted: 28 Mar 2012 06:00 PM PDT Ever since scoring the biggest hit of his directing career with last summer's thunderous Marvel Comics spectacular Thor, Kenneth Branagh has gone from being a prestigious filmmaker to an in-demand Hollywood talent. Despite having opted out of the Thor sequel (which is currently on its third attached director, Alan Taylor, and is set for release next year), the actor and director best known for his acclaimed film adaptations of Shakespeare works like Henry V and Hamlet (and for playing Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) has locked up another high-profile gig behind the camera. Branagh has signed on to direct the still-untitled reboot of the Jack Ryan film franchise for Paramount Pictures, taking over for departing television director Jack Bender (Lost), whose most notable directing career was 1991's Child's Play 3. Chris Pine remains on board the project as the latest actor to portray Tom Clancy's heroic CIA agent and should be ready to begin filming once production on Star Trek 2 wraps. Jack Ryan has previously been portrayed on the screen by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck [...] |

Check Out This ‘Total Recall’ Video Motion Poster Posted: 28 Mar 2012 01:00 PM PDT The marketing campaign for the Len Wiseman-directed redo of Total Recall is finally ramping up with a teaser trailer set to premiere online this Sunday and today's release of a brief but interesting video motion poster. You can check it out here below. [UPDATE: We've added the vertical version of the motion poster here below as well.] The image shows a gun-toting Colin Farrell (in the role played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1990 movie) breaking into pieces as the tagline "What Is Real?" fades to become "What Is Recall?", and it all takes place against a futuristic cityscape you've seen before in every other science fiction movie made since Blade Runner. I'm getting a Minority Report vibe from the images and footage released so far, but Wiseman isn't a fraction of the skillful and inventive filmmaker Steven Spielberg is [...] |

Comic Review: Angel & Faith #8 Posted: 28 Mar 2012 11:00 AM PDT Angel & Faith #8 Executive Producer: Joss Whedon Script by Christos Gage Art by Rebekah Isaacs Colors by Dan Jackson Letters by Richard Starkings and Comicraft's Jimmy Betancourt Covers by Steve Morris, Rebekah Isaacs with Dan Jackson Dark Horse Comics Release Date: March 28, 2012 Cover Price: $2.99 Geez... miss a couple of months of a comic book series and everything is different. Lots of introspection in this issue leads me to believe I need to go get the missing comics and play catch up. Sure, Faith is still leading the slayers around but she seems to have her hands full at it. What makes a slayer turn on one of her sisters? It seems guilt does. Though they seemed well matched at first, Faith gains the upper hand and disarms her fellow slayer. A very sensitive Faith gives the other girl some rather helpful advice but allows her to deal with the pain in her own way, though not as she would have her do [...] |
Why A ‘Doctor Who’ Spin-Off Won’t Happen Posted: 28 Mar 2012 10:00 AM PDT Whether you like or inexplicably loathe Russell T. Davies, you have to admit that the man expanded the world of Doctor Who, working to fill it with a roster of unforgettable side characters like Rose, Jackie Tyler, River Song, The Doctor Donna, Wilfred Mott, Mickey, Martha Jones, and Captain Jack. Davies didn't just let these characters roam though, he serviced them and made us care and even long for their return appearances. Doctor Who, in the time of Steven Moffat, has not similarly excelled in this area. Oh sure, the love story of Rory and Amy will be written in the stars and spoken about for the whole of time (or something), and Moffat has more fully realized (for better or worse) River Song, his creation, but they don't seem right for a spin-off and for the most part we only get snippets of other, smaller characters who we would love to get to know more [...] |
The GoD List: Comics For March 28, 2012 Posted: 28 Mar 2012 09:15 AM PDT Each and every week "Heel Heat" MK2Fac3 and "No Show" Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn't? So, let's take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we'll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of March 28, 2012. Single issues and trades, they're all here. My Henchman is on sabbatical this week, so I've decided to go solo. If H21 were here, though, I'm sure he'd ramble on about a variety of comics, but he's not. So, get over it! But enough of all that! I wanted to address to important items that are on my radar this week. Firstly, it's the week after my birthday and none of you got me anything! I'm so incredibly disappointed in each and every one of you. I spend my time giving you something entertaining to read and this is how you repay me!? In the words of the legendary The Iron Sheik, "::expletive deleted::!" Goodness gracious alive, folks! Anyway, on to the next item on the docket, it's Wrestlemania week! Everyone celebrate! YAY! CM Punk is going to beat Chris Jericho and that's a fact, Jack! Oh yeah, this feature is about comics.... Here's this week's The GoD List! [...] |
