ABC’s ‘The Chew’ To Feature Marvel’s ‘Avengers Vs. X-Men’; Yes, Cookies Will Be Made Posted: 03 Apr 2012 08:00 PM PDT In an incredibly bizarre stroke of corporate synergy, Marvel announced on Tuesday that their hot summer comic book event Avengers Vs. X-Men will be featured on ABC's The Chew on Wednesday, April 4, 2012. Yeah, I have no idea either, but this is apparently a real thing. Marvel states that the chefs of the talk/cooking show hybrid will both be discussing the comic as well as providing some healthy recipes for viewers of which, and I quote, "even Captain America would approve." For those that don't know, Disney owns both the ABC network as well as Marvel Comics, so it's not really a surprise that there would be some cross-promotion going on here. But on a cooking show? I don't know, it sounds kind of ridiculous when you think that maybe Brian Michael Bendis and other creators could have been interviewed on any of the other numerous talk shows that ABC hosts, and maybe they are and I just haven't seen anything about it. Either way, this is a very weird thing to take place. And if you don't mind, I'm going to hypothesize about what we could be seeing [...] |
Comic Review: Criminal Macabre: Die, Die, My Darling Posted: 03 Apr 2012 07:13 PM PDT Criminal Macabre: Die, Die My Darling Story by Steve Niles Art by Christopher Mitten Colors by Michelle Madsen Letters by Nate Piekos of Blambot Cover by Fiona Staples Designed by David Nestelle Dark Horse Comics Release Date: April 04, 2012 Cover Price: $3.50 Criminal Macabre: Die, Die, My Darling finds its anti-hero, Cal McDonald, adjusting to life after life. To being undead in other words. How is he taking the transition? He's disgruntled, sure, but whatever, he seems to be disgruntled about a lot of other things, too. Since 1990 writer Steve Niles, who you should know from the 30 Days of Night books/film (and if you don't that's your loss) has been doing his own take on the Paranormal Sleuth sub-genre in both comics and prose. Specifically, by Sleuth I mean the hard living, solving-crime-in-a-drunken-have type, and by Paranormal I'm talking about a casual slathering of vampires and werewolves. You like John Constantine? Give this a try [...] |
Watch This Time-Lapse Video Of Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Rear Window’ Posted: 03 Apr 2012 05:52 PM PDT Alfred Hitchcock, the famed director known as "The Master of Suspense," has directed over 60 motion pictures in his lifetime, Psycho, North by Northwest, and Vertigo among countless others. One of his standouts, 1954's Rear Window, has just been turned into a visually panoramic piece of eye candy in a time-lapse video, which has gone viral. You can watch the 3-minute video here below. Rear Window is a film full of suspense, humor, and bizarre twists that were stock in trade for Hitchcock's pictures. Its main protagonist, an action photographer played by James Stewart, is incapacitated in a wheelchair, nursing a broken leg he suffered during one of his many dangerous jobs. Stewart's apartment faces out to a large courtyard, and we, like him, see the action only through his eyes, which creates a very tight, claustrophobic atmosphere. Stewart alleviates his boredom being in the chair by spying in the windows of the other apartment in the courtyard. By accident, he feels he's witnessed evidence in one of the windows that a murder has taken place. As Stewart is not physically able to put the pieces together, he and we as an audience, feel the frustrations as he is forced to leave those functions to solve the murder in the hands of others, like his girlfriend, played by Grace Kelly, among others [...] |
Hammer Teaming with Author Susan Hill For ‘Woman In Black’ Sequel ‘Angels Of Death’ Posted: 03 Apr 2012 04:01 PM PDT The atmospheric horror drama The Woman in Black, which featured Daniel Radcliffe in his first major post-Harry Potter leading role, opened in February to great success with critics and audiences. The film grossed over $53 million in the U.S. and a grand total of $120 million worldwide off a budget of $17 million, so it's safe to say a sequel is assured. Yesterday it was announced that Hammer, Alliance Films, and Cross Creek Pictures will be collaborating with Susan Hill, the author of the novel on which the movie was based, for a sequel to be titled The Woman in Black: Angels of Death. Jon Crocker (Desert Dancer) will write the screenplay from an original story by Hill. Roy Lee (The Departed) of Vertigo Entertainment will serve as an executive producer on the sequel [...] |
Wait, What?! ‘Kinect Star Wars’ Has A Galactic Dance Off Mode! Posted: 03 Apr 2012 02:00 PM PDT So, today's the big day -- the release of the Kinect Star Wars video game for Xbox 360 (and of the Star Wars-themed console bundle too). Now you can play a Star Wars game without the need for a controller; you can be a Jedi, and you can pilot some cool spaceships and go to galaxies far, far away. Awesome, right? Well, how about this one? Apparently, Kinect Star Wars also a Galactic Dance Off Mode. A. DANCE. MODE. Dancing. There's dancing in the game. Dancing with popular Star Wars characters like Han Solo and Lando Calrissian. Dance [...] |
Oni Press Announces Full Color Editions Of ‘Scott Pilgrim’ Posted: 03 Apr 2012 12:59 PM PDT During Emerald City Comic Con this weekend, Oni Press announced new editions of Bryan Lee O'Malley's popular Scott Pilgrim series to be colored in full by famed colorist Nathan Fairbairn. Fairbairn has worked with some of the best in the best in the business with work including Batman Incorporated, Swamp Thing, and several championed comics, so for him to be chosen as the colorist for these new editions is the best possible result, in my opinion. Scott Pilgrim has been colored previously with several color pages in Scott Pilgrim Gets It Together (the fourth volume in the series), as well as a Free Comic Book Day issue telling a short story of several of the characters, so it's not an unheard of concept for this to happen [...] |
The ‘Hellraiser’ Franchise Is Coming To Drag Television Into Hell Posted: 03 Apr 2012 12:00 PM PDT Now that its feature film fortunes have dried with the proposed remake stalling and its latest DTV video being greeted with bombastic derision from longtime fans, it looks like Hellraiser is setting its sights on the world of television. A new series based on the horror movie franchise that began in 1987 with the classic original written and directed by Clive Barker (and based on his novella "The Hellbound Heart") is being developed over at Sonar Entertainment, formerly RHI Entertainment, the company started by television miniseries impresario Robert Halmi Sr. Halmi and his son Robert Halmi Jr. are no longer with Sonar [...] |
