Daily Mail Writer Samantha Brick: There are downsides to looking this pretty Why women hate me for being beautiful | beauty body image

Samantha Brick is no celebrity, but she is definitely getting her own share of fame these days. Yesterday, the 41 year-old Daily Mail columnist wrote a long piece with the controversial title: “There are downsides to looking this pretty – Why women hate me for being beautiful”, where she basically explains that she gets constant attention, gifts and favors from men for being so beautiful and that the same beauty attracts a lot of jealousy from women. Let’s see some of the highlights from her immensely popular article (read full version here):

Samantha has always gotten gifts for her beauty:On a recent flight to New York, I was delighted when a stewardess came over and gave me a bottle of champagne.'This is from the captain — he wants to welcome you on board and hopes you have a great flight today,' she explained. You're probably thinking 'what a lovely surprise'. But while it was lovely, it wasn't a surprise. At least, not for me.

"Throughout my adult life, I've regularly had bottles of bubbly or wine sent to my restaurant table by men I don't know. Once, a well-dressed chap bought my train ticket when I was standing behind him in the queue, while there was another occasion when a charming gentleman paid my fare as I stepped out of a cab in Paris. Another time, as I was walking through London's Portobello Road market, I was tapped on the shoulder and presented with a beautiful bunch of flowers. Even bar tenders frequently shoo my credit card away when I try to settle my bill. And whenever I've asked what I've done to deserve such treatment, the donors of these gifts have always said the same thing: my pleasing appearance and pretty smile made their day."

How she describes herself: "While I'm no Elle Macpherson, I'm tall, slim, blonde and, so I'm often told, a good-looking woman. I know how lucky I am. But there are downsides to being pretty — the main one being that other women hate me for no other reason than my lovely looks. If you're a woman reading this, I'd hazard that you've already formed your own opinion about me — and it won't be very flattering. For while many doors have been opened (literally) as a result of my looks, just as many have been metaphorically slammed in my face — and usually by my own sex."

Gisele Bündchen Named ‘Greatest Model of All Time’

Gisele Bündchen Named Greatest Model of All Time | hot models gisele bundchen

Time Magazine recently completed their All-TIME 100 Fashion Icons lists and the beauty that took the crown in the Model department is no other than Gisele Bündchen. Here’s how they argument their choice:

Discovered at 14 in São Paulo, Brazil, Bündchen was dubbed “the world’s most sought-after supermodel” by the time she was 20. Six years later, she became the world’s highest-paid supermodel. She has made covers of fashion magazines and graced those of Newsweek and Vanity Fair. Meanwhile, high-profile love affairs (boyfriend Leonardo DiCaprio, husband Tom Brady) have made her a household name. Bündchen is the sun-kissed, bosomy antithesis of the waiflike heroin-chic models who dominated runways in the ’90s. Editors want her on their pages, designers want her on their runways, businesses want her in their commercials, and people pay millions of dollars each year for products with her name on them.

Let’s see the top 10:

1. Gisele Bündchen
2. Naomi Campbell
3. Cindy Crawford
4. Linda Evangelista
5. Iman
6. Beverly Johnson
7. Heidi Klum
8. Kate Moss
9. Jean Shrimpton
10. Twiggy

What do you think of their choice?

Jennifer Lawrence Is Being Criticized for ‘Looking Normal’

Jennifer Lawrence Is Being Criticized for Looking Normal | jennifer lawrence beauty body image

Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence has been in the spotlight lately – besides the movie’s overwelming success, the reason is that some critics consider Jennifer ‘too chubby’ or simply not skinny enough to play her role. More details from Chicago Suntimes:

The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence has both a great sense of humor — and a very good sense of self.

A source close to the actress told me Sunday that the Oscar nominee had a sarcastic reaction to some of the critics of her mega-hit movie who basically claimed she was too chubby-looking to convincingly play Katniss Everdeen in the blockbuster, based on Suzanne Collins' best-selling novel.

"Jennifer told me, 'This is hilarious. First, people say how so many actresses in Hollywood look anorexic, and now they are criticizing me for looking normal,'" the source recalled. The actress reportedly added that overly thin body images "are too often adopted by young girls and women — thanks to what they are constantly being shown as being attractive."

Another point supposedly made by Lawrence was that nothing was written about her two main co-stars — Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth — who both also play residents of the film's fictional District 12, where people are constantly facing starving conditions.

While most critics raved about the film and Lawrence's performance, it was comments from the Hollywood Reporter's Todd McCarthy (about the actress' "lingering baby fat"), Salon's Andrew O'Hehir ("well-fed" body) and Hollywood Elsewhere's Jeffrey Wells (calling Lawrence a "big-boned lady") that have unleashed a torrent of furious responses from the legions of loyal Hunger Games fans.
