2520 Clothing: The NYC Collection

When I saw the NYC Collection from our friends at 2520 Clothing a few weeks ago, it became immediately necessary for me to get my hands on one of the 'Brooklyn' shirts. I picked it up and am currently in the process of wearing it the fcuk out.

Kurt Russell and Sacha Baron Cohen Depart From Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’

Sacha Baron Cohen and Kurt Russell

Cameras may have already started rolling but a few cast members are finding it difficult to commit to the film schedule for Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained. A couple of weeks back Joseph Gordon-Levitt had to pull out of his role as one of two slave trading siblings because of his commitment to his directorial debut. Now comes word that Kurt Russell and Sacha Baron Cohen will no longer be appearing in the film, which is currently shooting for a December release.

Cohen made the announcement of him exiting the role on The Howard Stern Show, citing scheduling conflicts with his press tour for The Dictator as the reason why he had to exit the project. There is also the issue of shooting his role in Tom Hooper's Les Misérables that comes into conflict with shooting his cameo in Django Unchained [...]

Theme Park Review: Universal Studios Hollywood’s ‘Tranformers: The Ride 3D’

Universal Studios Hollywood: Transformers: The Ride 3D

Transformers: The Ride 3D
Universal Studios Hollywood
Ride previewed: April 28, 2012
Ride opens to public on May 25, 2012

Hasbro's Transformers films have excited the public for years now with fulfilled promises of high-speed action, fiery pyrotechnics, and intense Autobot vs. Decepticon battles on land and in the city skies above; everything you've come to expect from a Michael Bay production. The question is, could Michael Bay effectively translate that experience to a theme park ride? Recently I went on that ride, and I can honestly say, "Mission Accomplished."

Michael Bay collaborated with the ride builders at Universal Creative to bring the experience from his films to life. I rode Transformers: The Ride 3D during what Universal Studios Hollywood called their Technical Preview (which just means that some aspects of the ride may not have been fully functional, but to be honest, everything seemed to work fine to me).

I've included an unabashedly enthusiastic post-ride video reaction and photos here below, along with a description of the ride and of the whole experience [...]

Wolfenstein 3D

Remember back when first-person shooter games were in their infancy, born from your floppy disk copy of Wolfenstein 3D?

It's been a long time since those days---20 years now, in fact---and Bethesda Softworks is celebrating the anniversary of the game with a little treat for fans of the classic: the ability to play it for free whenever you want. [...]

First Incredible Trailer For Ruben Fleischer’s ‘Gangster Squad’

Posted: 10 May 2012 03:03 PM PDT

Gangster Squad

Warner Brothers has released the first trailer for Ruben Flischer's period piece crime drama Gangster Squad. The film touts an ecliptic cast that consists of Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone, Anthony Mackie, Nick Nolte, Bryan Cranston, Michael Pena, Giovanni Ribisi, and more. The Gangster Squad is set in the 1940s and will focus on a special task force specifically designed to stop L.A.'s most notorious gangsters.

The movie looks visually appealing. Everything from the fashion to the set pieces looks absolutely incredible. And when all of that is backed by the aforementioned names, you have all the ingredients for an incredible movie. I especially love the look and feel of the of the artwork that appears up on Apple. It definitely pays homage to the art and style of the 1940s. You can check out the trailer below [...]

Watch Now: ‘The Dictator’ Red Band Trailer

Posted: 10 May 2012 01:00 PM PDT

The Dictator

The always popular RED BAND trailer (or naughty little trailer, as no one at all likes to call it) for Sacha Baron Cohen's latest comedy, The Dictator, has found its way online.

As you'll recall the movie began as what sounded like Baron Cohen playing Saddam Hussein, but has evolved into the actor playing a fictional dictator (parodying all of the overly eccentric nutjob tyrants we've seen over the years) who finds himself stuck in America trying to adjust to the culture change. [...]

‘BioShock Infinite’ Pushed Back To 2013; I and Many Others Weep

Posted: 10 May 2012 11:00 AM PDT

BioShock Infinite

Back in September of 2010 when we witnessed in awe the first 10-minute gameplay demo for Ken Levine and Irrational Games' BioShock prequel, BioShock Infinite, it already looked beautiful and dreamlike and perfect (enhanced by the 15-minute E3 gameplay demo that followed); perfect enough to being close to a release. But we knew there would be a bit of a wait in store as they perfected the game for a 2012 release, and that only heightened expectation, anticipation, and excitement levels.

Then came a release date, finally: October 16, 2012---over two years after we'd first seen the gameplay demo. But now, sadly, we the impatiently patient will have to wait even longer. [...]

The Beastie Boys’ ‘Sure Shot’ Deconstructed

Sure Shot Deconstructed

The tragic death of Adam Yauch on May 4th sent shockwaves around the musical community, not to mention a sense of loss and grief from millions of fans everywhere who grew up with The Beastie Boys and got down with their bad selves to the sonic fury and fervor of that storied hip hop group. Mike D, Ad Rock, and Yauch, known as MCA, who arguably was the best of the trio, with rhymes that flowed like wine from Napa Valley, smooth and intense, soulful and with a sheen that blared out first from boom boxes then CD players, and now MP3 players everywhere.

Yauch will be missed, as with his death comes a loss of that oft used term "innocence" for a generation who came of age in the early 1980s that I was a part of, and maybe you were also. In an American 1980's society then choked by Reaganomics, The Beastie Boys, with their loose wild, Animal House, juvee style, was like spray painting a mustache on the Lincoln Memorial and then blowing it up with dynamite. They had plenty of great songs throughout their career and they also had a nice propensity for throwing sharp and smart pop culture references in some of their songs, especially the lead off track from their cool as ice Ill Communication album, "Sure Shot." From 1994. That song has lyrics that are easy to flow along in a hip (hop) karaoke style when one listens to it, but it's also laden with pop cultural references that may be off many people's radars. Now, as a public service to our faithful Geeks Of Doom readers, I, Stoogeypedia, the Underdog of all and everything pop cultural, break down the references in "Sure Shot." [...]

Universal May Make ‘Kick-Ass 2′; Jeff Wadlow In Talks To Write and Direct

Posted: 10 May 2012 09:00 AM PDT

Kick-Ass

A sequel to Kick-Ass has been under gestation for quite some time and although the first film wasn't the runaway hit many had hoped it would be, it still made a significant amount to get the sequel treatment. Now Universal is in talks to make Kick-Ass 2. However, since Matthew Vaughn is busy developing the sequel to X-Men: First Class, Jeff Wadlow will be brought in to direct the film. Wadlow is best known for writing and directing Cry_Wolf and the underground fighting plotted Never Back Down.

According to Deadline, Universal wants to begin filming Kick-Ass 2 in August.Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are all in negotiations to reprise their respective roles. The three have been very vocal about reprising their roles, so it shouldn't be that hard to get them to sign on the dotted line. Since the film will be under a different studio banner, new deals will have to be made [...]

Doom Digest: Metallica, Beastie Boys, Neil Gaiman, The Beatles, Rush

Doom Digest

Every day here at Doom HQ we receive tons of tips from our readers about really cool stuff from the world of geek, as well as promotional materials for new films, comic books, collectibles, and much more. While we do our best to bring you as much of it as possible, we don't always have enough geek manpower available to cover it all on a daily basis. But we hate the idea of all of this really cool stuff wasting away in our inbox. How could we NOT cover it? Hence why we've resurrected our long-defunct column Bits Of Doom, now rebranded and revamped as Doom Digest, a collection of easily digestible bits of news, videos, photos, and other goodies.

Today: Metallica performs the entire Black Album, a supercut of movies that could afford to use actual Beatles music, a short film about Canadian rock trio Rush, a video of MCA's opening lines from every Beastie Boys song, and a photo from Neil Gaiman's first-ever signing for Sandman, plus Bits Of Doom [...]

Edgar Wright’s ‘The World’s End’ Start & Release Dates, Synopsis Revealed

Posted: 10 May 2012 07:00 AM PDT

Edgar Wright with Nick Frost and Simon Pegg

It's the moment everyone has been waiting for, the confirmation that the Edgar Wright-directed comedy The World's End, the final entry of the Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, will begin production in September and that Universal will be releasing the film next Spring.

But that's not all. We also got a short synopsis here below for The World's End, which completes the trilogy which began with Shaun Of The Dead, followed by Hot Fuzz.

We've seen a photo of Wright and Pegg hard at work figuring out the story for The World's End. Shaun of the Dead was a play on the zombie genre, while Hot Fuzz was a parody of the action/buddy-cop genre, but what is The World's End a play on? Well going by the film title as well as grabbing a line from the plot description, "As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind's," it appears as that The World's End is a play on the apocalyptic film genre [...]
