Posted: 04 Jun 2012 07:04 PM PDT True Blood #1 Created by Alan Ball Written by Michael McMillian and Ann Nocenti Art by Michael Gaydos Colors by Marcelo Maiolo Letters by Neil Uyetake Cover by Tim Bradstreet IDW Publishing Release Date: May 23, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 With HBO's Season 5 premiere of True Blood about to "come out of the coffin" on June 10th and now as an ongoing monthly comic series, it is a good time to be a Fangbanger. IDW is back again with True Blood #1 with a 'Where Were You?' story arc which lands on the one year anniversary of the Great Revelation aka Coffin Night. Creator Alan Ball teams up with writers Michael McMillian (who shows off another talent playing Reverend Steve Newlin on the show) and Ann Nocenti to bring us a new tale of the dark denizens of Bon Temps. Backstories are revealed from the day vampires informed humanity that not only do they exist, but with the invention of the synthetic blood substitute Tru Blood, the living and the dead can now peacefully coexist. Favorite characters from the show mingle with interesting and mysterious strangers on this strange new holiday which seeks to rival the decadence of Mardi Gras. This issue proves loyal to the world of the True Blood show but diverges from the storyline, making it a must see for Trubies and newbies alike [...] |

Comic Review: Vincent Price: House of Horrors #1 Posted: 04 Jun 2012 05:22 PM PDT Vincent Price: House of Horrors #1 Written by Jay Katz Pencils by Stefano Cardoselli Colors Jeff Balke Letters by Warren Montgomery Graphics by Darren G. Davis Bluewater Comics Release Date: May 30, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 "I spoke with God in your little church here today. He says He's expecting you…" – Vincent Price House of Horrors #1 This is my first foray into Vincent Price. Ever. Sure, I know who he is, and sure, I should probably be ashamed of myself for not being more familiar with his work. I came into this comic series totally cold, just looking for some horror fun in the vein of Tales from the Crypt or the recent Ragemoor from Dark Horse. I figured this might be a bit campy, but still have some creepy chills and fun thrills... and I was right! I don't want to spoil much, because half of the fun was coming into this comic with no real expectations and not knowing what the story was even about. Let's just say church member Nick doesn't spend all his time alone in his house watching television and reading the good book [...] |
Fox Attaches ‘Life Of Pi’ Clips Before ‘Prometheus’ and More Posted: 04 Jun 2012 04:00 PM PDT Trailers are cut and edited to fit a short time span to tell a story, set up the character, and build some sort of anticipation. Most of these trailers are just a montage of short clips, but Fox has decided to go an unconventional route with Ang Lee's adaptation of Life of Pi. Rather than have those montage of clips, the studio has decided to show full-length clips from the film. According to the report there will be more clips that are attached to showings of Ice Age: Continental Drift and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. According to the New York Times, these clips will appear in front of the showings for Prometheus. Not only that, but they will be presented in 3D. It should be interesting to see what kind of footage we will be seeing from Lee's latest directorial effort. Hopefully these clips are compelling enough to get audiences excited to see Life of Pi, which will open in theaters this November [...] |

For our music selection this week, Greg gets you prepared for the ongoing Zombie Apocalypse, with a tune from Anthrax called "Fight 'Em 'Til You Can't." On the topic of Zombies, we take a look at a couple of movies/music-related posts from right here at Geeks Of Doom. We also review the latest news surrounding the retirement of George Lucas, as Kathleen Kennedy steps up as co-chair of Lucasfilm [...] This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Watch Joseph Gordon-Levitt In The Trailer For ‘Premium Rush’ Posted: 04 Jun 2012 02:00 PM PDT I for one have never had the luxury of spending any quality time in New York, but if it's anything like in the movies, it's one big rush. So if it's anything like Premium Rush, then I cannot wait to experience the city firsthand. A new trailer for Premium Rush, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, is now online. You can check out the trailer below. Gordon-Levitt stars as a New York bicycle messenger who is tasked with delivering a seemingly harmless message to its destination in 90 minutes. But once an undercover police officer finds out that the message is out there, he demands that it be handed over and soon the messenger is caught up in a conspiracy and chase that covers the length of Manhattan [...] |
Posted: 04 Jun 2012 01:00 PM PDT Netherworld Written by Bryan Edward Hill and Rob Levin Line Art by Tony Shasteen with Dennis Calero Colors by Dave McCaig with Lee Loughridge Letters by Troy Peteri Image Comics | Top Cow Release Date: May 23, 2012 Cover Price: $19.99 Crime noir comics are not usually my cup of Joe. It takes a unique twist on the hardboiled genre to capture my ridiculously short attention span. Image Comics/Top Cow's Netherworld accomplishes just that, adding a supernatural flair to the typical dirty cop storyline. You'll ponder this deceptively deep storyline well after its exciting conclusion. Ray Parker is a former cop scratching out an existence as a bounty hunter. Two separate clients hit him up with jobs concerning the same person: a young woman named Madeline. Alexis wants Ray to find Madeline at a specified location and bring her to a second location. On the other hand, Cyrus Kane has less information and wants Ray to simply find Madeline's whereabouts. Ray must use all of his instincts to decide on which path to take. Finding Madeline begins a violent, action-packed tale of discovery as Ray peels away the layers of his city and his role within it [...] |
Film Based On ‘Drive’ Sequel Novel ‘Driven’ Under Development? Posted: 04 Jun 2012 12:00 PM PDT I never thought a crime drama with Ryan Gosling as a convincing badass and Albert Brooks as a cold-blooded mobster - and both men capable of doing some serious damage to another person without a millisecond's hesitation - would ever exist anywhere outside the imagination of a deranged lunatic who is clearly unfamiliar with the time-honored Hollywood axiom "cast to type." But last year's Drive, which was originally intended to be a big-budget formula action flick with Hugh Jackman in the lead, came out of nowhere to shatter expectations in a way that was as quick and brutal as how Gosling dispatched that one guy in the elevator scene that has now become a classic movie moment. It wasn't a massive hit, but most of the people who saw it agreed that it was of 2011's best films, and it even inspired the single goofiest lawsuit taken out against a movie in some time [...] |
Comic Review: Dark Horse Presents #12 Posted: 04 Jun 2012 11:00 AM PDT Dark Horse Presents #12 Story by John Layman Art by Sam Kieth Colors by John Kalisz, Sam Kieth Cover Art by Sam Kieth Dark Horse Comics Release Date: May 23, 2012 Cover Price: $7.99 The latest issue of Dark Horse Presents brings you 80 pages of ad-free, full-color illustrated stories, featuring a brand-new Aliens adventure by John Layman and legendary artist Sam Kieth. Inhuman Condition: Chapter 1 tells the story of Miss Jean DuPaul and Bear, an unlikely duo in that Bear is an inanimate object - a fluffy pink teddy bear to be exact. While we're only given an 8-page introduction into Layman and Kieth's new story, it's clear the series will be filled with plenty of acid-spewing Xenomorphs and synthetic "artificial persons." It's hard not to compare Inhuman Condition to those early Dark Horse Aliens mini-series like Aliens: Book One (1988), Aliens: Book Two (1989) and Aliens: Earth War (1990), which Kieth drew for Mark Verheiden. Miss DuPaul is a woman who has lost her husband and daughter, and all she has left of her family is Bear, the stuffed play-thing that was to be her daughter's. She's evacuated from a colony by a task force of androids during a Xenomorph attack. |
‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Official Runtime; AMC Announces ‘The Dark Knight’ Marathon Posted: 04 Jun 2012 10:00 AM PDT We mentioned that you would fear Tom Hardy's performance as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises thanks to new footage that debut last night. But what about the runtime for the film? Christopher Nolan's previous two Batman films had an average run time of about 2 hours and 30 minutes. Now AMC (via Collider) confirms that The Dark Knight Rises clocks in at 2 hours and 45 minutes. But that's not all. AMC Theaters has also announced that it will be running a Dark Knight marathon. The site mentions that tickets for the marathon would go on sale at 12 pm EDT on June 11. While the site clearly says that The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises will be a part of the marathon that will be held on July 19th, it does not tell us if Batman Begins will be included [...] |
‘Iron Man 3′ Begins Filming; First Image Revealed Posted: 04 Jun 2012 08:58 AM PDT After weeks of non-stop casting announcements and analysis of its possible plot, the Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios film Iron Man 3 has commenced principal photography in Wilmington, NC. We have the first behind-the-scenes image from the production. You can check it out here below. The film's plot is reportedly based on "Extremis," a six-issue story arc from Marvel Comics' The Invincible Iron Man written by Warren Ellis and drawn by Adi Granov, which would introduce nanotechnology into the character's ongoing adventures. Shane Black is directing Iron Man 3 from a screenplay he co-wrote with Drew Pearce. Returning to the cast are Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, and Jon Favreau (a good indication that not much bad blood exists between Favreau, who directed the first two Iron Man films and had originally planned to direct the third and complete his trilogy, and Marvel Studios). New to the cast are Rebecca Hall (Frost/Nixon) and Andy Lau (Infernal Affairs), and playing the heavies of Iron Man 3 are Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley, James Badge Dale, and Ashley Hamilton [...] |
Remembering The Unsung, Late Wings Guitarist Jimmy McCullough On His Birthday Posted: 04 Jun 2012 08:06 AM PDT Today's marks the birthday of Jimmy McCullough, the Scottish musician who pretty much played with a virtual who's who of British rock and roll artists of the 1970s, but succumbed to a heroin overdose at the tender age of 26 and has been mainly forgotten about in today's day and age. McCullough is best remembered for his stint in Paul McCartney's Wings from 1974 to 1977, playing lead guitar on many of their hits, including the number one singles "Listen to What the Man Said," "Let em In," and "Silly Love Songs." He also played in a band prior to Wings, known as Thunderclap Newman, which is remembered for their song "Something in the Air," (number one in the UK) which has been covered by artists such as Tom Petty, The Eurythmics, jazz impressario Herbie Mann, and Donald Fagen among others. McCullough was only 15 when he performed on that track, still holding the record for the youngest person to date to have performed on a number one single in the UK [...] |
