Box Office Prediction: Despicable on Top

At this weekend's box-office, it will be a battle royale as vampires will be fighting against an alien and a superbad/superdad to be on top. Who will reign supreme? Last week, as expected, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse took the top spot with $83.6 million at the US box office when it opened in record-breaking theatrical release. But it wasn't able to crack the record of Spider Man 2 which grossed $115.8 million in 2004. The badly reviewed The Last Airbender directed by M. Night Shyamalan defied critics and took the second spot after it earned $51.8 million. The well-received Toy Story 3 slipped to third spot after it was the number bone movie for two weeks with $43.1 million.

But this week, those movies are predicted to slip down as two movies are expected to go against them for the box-office. The 3-D animated film by Universal Pictures and the maiden project of Illumination Entertainment, Despicable Me, and the 2010 production of 20th Century Fox and the fourth film of the Predator franchise, Predators, are slated to hit theaters this week. Despicable Me is the latest CGI animation after How To Train Your Dragon and Toy Story 3. It also boasts talented cast to voice like Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Miranda Cosgrove,Will Arnett, Kristen Wiig, Jack McBryer, Ken Jeong, Danny McBride, and Dame Julie Andrews. Predators is sci-fi action thriller directed by Nimrod Antal and produced by Robert Rodriguez. It also has some great cast which includes Oscar winner Adrien Brody, Laurence Fishburne, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, and Danny Trejo.

Early indications have it that Despicable Me will take the top spot with $37.5 million. Eclipse will be knocked down to second place with $27.1 million. Predators will claim the third spot with $25.6 million. Toy Story 3 will be fourth ($19.8 million) and The Last Airbender will slip down to fifth place ($16.6 million).
