All Six ‘Star Wars’ Movies To Get 3D Re-Release Starting With ‘Phantom Menace’ In 2012

Posted: 28 Sep 2010 08:32 PM PDT

Here we are. You all knew it was coming -- most of you likely wishing as hard as one can wish that it would never actually become a reality -- and George Lucas is not one to take a step back when something is glowing with dollar signs.

It's been announced that all six Star Wars movies will be getting a shiny new 3D makeover, and then an eventual re-release into theaters. The plan is to start at the beginning, sending Episode IV: The Phantom Menace out of the gate first in early 2012, and then releasing the films in order each year after that...all depending upon performance.

Lucas has always had an eye on re-releasing his saga in 3D with how popular the technology currently is, but he wanted to make sure it was being used in enough theaters before going for it. Also, Lucas's urge to go 3D was solidified with the success of James Cameron's Avatar, and he was ready to give his babies the new treatment. [...]

‘Mad Men’ Actor Jared Harris To Become ‘Sherlock Holmes 2′ Villain Moriarty

Posted: 28 Sep 2010 05:17 PM PDT

Since before Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes even came out, rumors about who might play the longtime arch nemesis to Holmes, Moriarty, in Sherlock Holmes 2 have been swirling.

The most popular name associated with the role was that of Brad Pitt, who was at one time reported to have joined the film, though the validity of these reports were disputed and denied on numerous occasions. Now comes confirmation that Pitt will not be playing Moriarty, and that Ritchie has found the actor he does want for the role. Mad Men star and son of the legendary Richard Harris, Jared Harris, has been chosen to become the villain and constant opposition of the famed detective Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.).

Harris has been around for quite a while, building an impressive resume. The actor has delivered performances in titles like Happiness, Igby Goes Down, Mr. Deeds, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Ocean's Twelve, Lady in the Water, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. [...]

‘LOST’ Star Maggie Grace Joins The Cast Of ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’

Posted: 28 Sep 2010 03:55 PM PDT

A new face has joined the world of Twilight. Star of the hit television series, LOST, and the Liam Neeson action thriller, Taken, Maggie Grace will be appearing in the two part final installment of the franchise, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

Grace will be playing Irina, one of the Denali sisters and a member of the Denali Coven, who were close friends to the Cullen family and fellow vegetarian vampires. When Irina's lover is killed, she blames the Cullens and takes action, leading to a ripple of very bad things.

Along with Lost and Taken, Grace has also appeared in movies like The Fog, Knight & Day, and Flying Lessons, with a few more on the way including Faster.

Franchise screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg (Dexter, Step Up) is currently working on the scripts for the two-part Breaking Dawn finale. The two movies will be helmed by Gods and Monsters, Kinsey, and Dreamgirls director Bill Condon. [...]

Starz Might Re-Cast Andy Whitfield In ‘Spartacus: Blood And Sand’; Cancellation Possible?

Posted: 28 Sep 2010 01:50 PM PDT

Nothing about this story sounds like good news for fans of the hit Starz show, Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

It's being reported that the network has begun reaching out to various casting directors in an attempt to see if they can find someone that could replace star Andy Whitfield on the show. Whitfield, for those who don't yet know, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma a while back, which delayed production on season 2, understandably. While waiting for their star to make a full recovery, Starz decided to make a 6-part prequel series this past summer, in which Whitfield, who seemed to be on the path to recovery, was set to make a small appearance. The prequel series is set to air in January, but it's unclear whether said small appearance was still included or not.

Sadly, Mr. Whitfield has had an unexpected turn for the worst, and now requires a second aggressive treatment for his sickness, meaning even more of a delay. [...]

Official Zombie Rules Of ‘The Walking Dead’ TV Show

Posted: 28 Sep 2010 12:14 PM PDT

The official Twitter account for AMC's The Walking Dead television show is broadcasting the official zombie rules that will govern the behavior of the undead.

Within those rules, they do well to reference classic zombie films like Night of the Living Dead and offer parallels to primal animalistic behaviors, but I'm wondering how long it'll take them to goof up and have fans call them on it.

Right now there are seven rules but I'm assuming more will be added over the course of the month leading up to the show's debut. Check out the list so far below [...]

Watch Now: Fan-Produced Opening Credits For AMC’s ‘Walking Dead’

Posted: 28 Sep 2010 10:57 AM PDT

With Mad Men, AMC has built a reputation for producing quality television that's accurate to the subject matter. Everything from the dialog to the set design is well researched to fit the time period the story is set in. One can only hope the network will follow suit with its latest series The Walking Dead, based on the popular comic book series by Robert Kirkman.

The Walking Dead comic, for those unfamiliar with the series, is set in a post-zombie outbreak America and follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes. The artwork is done in black and white (except for the cover art), which seems to add a level of grittiness to the overall tone of the story. The upcoming TV show is set in color, but otherwise it's basically the same story converted into a new medium, as you can see in the official trailer embedded below.

Unlike Mad Men, it isn't nearly as crucial to nail the set backgrounds or make scientifically realistic-looking flesh coming off the bones of humans both dead and alive. No, all you really need to do is appease the preexisting Walking Dead fan base, which may prove difficult if the show's opening sequence fails to deliver a more positive reaction than the fan-made version currently being viewed across the internet [...]

Former Marvel Editor Bob Harras Named Editor-In-Chief of DC Comics

Posted: 28 Sep 2010 07:01 AM PDT

DC Comics has a new Editor-In-Chief and VP, industry veteran Bob Harras, who will oversee editorial for DC Comics, DC Universe, MAD Magazine, and Vertigo, according to the company's official blog The Source.

Harras is an interesting but not surprising choice given his past work experience with co-publisher Jim Lee. Early on in his career, he was editor for Marvel's X-Men books and later promoted to Editor-In-Chief.

In case you are about to reread that last line -- Harras is the only person to hold the EIC title at the two largest comic book companies in the industry.

If you're struggling to understand why you've not heard of Harras in the same vein as current Marvel Editor-In-Chief Joe Quesada (who has since been retitled as Chief Creative Officer), don't fret. His tenure as Marvel's EIC lasted about half a decade from 1995-2000 in which fans cried bloody murder over both the Spider-Man Clone Saga storyline and dozens of unresolved X-Men story arcs [...]
