The Great Leslie Nielsen Has Died At The Age Of 84

Posted: 28 Nov 2010 11:00 PM PST

It's never good to hear about the passing of a popular celebrity, but there's certain days when someone passes away you expected to be here forever, and those days hurt the most. Today is one of those days.

Legendary performer and universally popular talent Leslie Nielsen died Sunday at a hospital near his home in Florida. Nielsen passed away after a suffering from pneumonia. He was 84 years old.

For many of us who grew up in the '80s, Nielsen was a man with purely genius comic delivery who made many appearances in parody films. What those people may not know is that Nielsen had been around for decades prior to his best-known works, and spent the majority of his career as a generally serious actor.

Over his 60-year career, Nielsen compiled an incredible 239 acting credits to his name. Many of his jobs were small roles on TV series, including many classics like Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Bonanza, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Gunsmoke, The Mod Squad, M*A*S*H, Hawaii Five-O, Kojak, Kung Fu, Swiss Family Robinson, The Love Boat, and Fantasy Island. Geek Gear: Mario Bros Meets Star Wars In ‘Koopa the Hutt’ T-Shirt

koopa the hutt

The $9 t-shirt deal of the day over at Teefury today mashes up the Mario Bros. video game franchise with Star Wars in "Koopa the Hutt" by artist glenoneill.

The sale at Teefury began at midnight EST (Monday, November 29, 2010) and will continue for 24 hours, and once it's over, it's gone forever.

The t-shirt design takes the Bowser (aka King Koopa) character from the Mario Bros. video games and puts him in the role of Jabba The Hutt upon his throne (here made of bricks) from Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi. By his side is Princess Peach from the game dressed in Slave Leia garb sitting on a question mark power-up block, and in the Salicious Crumb role is one of the Koopa turtle-like creatures. On display in the background frozen in carbonite is who I believe is Luigi (it's hard to distinguish whether it's Luigi or Mario without seeing the color of their outfits and the letter on the hat, but the hat looks more like Luigi's and his chin in thin like Luigi's) [...]

Handmade Raggedy Ann and Goth Andy Dolls

Raggedy Not

Artist Beth Robinson creates one-of-a-kind handmade dolls of a most peculiar nature... strange, you might say.

If you visit Robinson site, Strange Dolls, you can view pictures of her custom creations.

One creation that caught my eye, which was actually on the lighter side of her usual subject matter, was a Raggedy Ann doll along with a goth version of Raggedy Andy, and he's so adorable! Check out the image here at right.

I happen to love these classic rag dolls. Growing up, Raggedy Ann was always my favorite doll, given to me by my cousin when I was a newborn. Just look at this photo of me as an infant, the way I'm looking at and grabbing toward my Raggedy Ann doll -- now that's love. I still feel that way! I don't know how goth Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls haven't been mass produced already, because I would totally buy them [...]
