‘Jupiter Ascending’ Plot Sounds A Bit Like A Cosmic Fairy Tale

Posted: 06 Jun 2012 07:16 PM PDT

Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum

Even with Speed Racer's small cult following, The Wachowski's last directorial effort proved to be a fruitless venture. But that didn't stop Andy and Lana Wachowski from doing what they do best - making movies that stretch the imagination. I imagine that they will be recognized for just that when Cloud Atlas hits theaters this December.

Now since that film is in post-production, it's time to see what's happening with their forthcoming film Jupiter Ascending. Slowly but surely there are some things that are trickling out of the faucet and we are learning new things about the film [...]

Dynamite Entertainment: The Lone Ranger #6 cover

Written by Ande Parks
Art by Esteve Polls
Colors by Marcelo Pinto
Letters by Simon Bowland
Cover by Francesco Francavilla
Dynamite Entertainment
Release Date: June 6, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

The Lone Ranger #6 is the epic conclusion to the series' first story arc, and man, is it a great one. We've been following the Ranger as he and Tonto have been fighting to save the town of Utopia from the evil Dorsey gang. When we last left them, both The Lone Ranger AND Tonto were in pretty rough shape. Here's hoping they made it out OK!

Month in and month out I praise the writing skills of Mr. Ande Parks, and this is going to be no different. You might ask yourself WHY I do that. The answer is simple: Ande Parks is a damn fine writer. Plain and simple. If you're not reading title and his work over on Green Hornet, you're missing out on some quality entertainment [...]

God of War: Ascension

The mighty Kratos is back again, this time for a prequel story titled God of War: Ascension.

Sony brought plenty of exciting treats to show off for the game, starting with a nice gameplay demo and followed by the reveal of the first ever God of War multiplayer gameplay.

Taking place only six months after he was tricked by the god Ares into murdering his wife and child, Kratos is angrier than ever and seeking vengeance. [...]

Happy Birthday To Guitar Legend Steve Vai!

Posted: 06 Jun 2012 05:15 PM PDT

Steve Vai

Birthday greetings go out today to guitar virtuoso Steve Vai, who's hyper-fast, impeccable taste, and flexibility on his instrument have not only solidified him as one of the greats of the 1980s, when he gave one Frank Zappa a new musical shingle to build his long and storied career on, but it also solidified Vai as one of the greatest guitar players of all time.

Born on June 6th, 1960, it's even more spellbinding when you realize that Vai is only 52 years old today; he's had a Grammy-winning career that seems to have spanned generations and lifetimes. He started playing guitar at the age of 13; a year later, he was mentored and taught by another guitar virtuoso, Joe Satriani. Vai's influences were the A-listers of rock and roll: Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Brian May (Queen), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Glen Buxton (Alice Cooper band), and even jazz guitarist Allan Holdsworth [...]

Watch The Exciting First Trailer For Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’

Django Unchained

Quentin Tarantino is back in full force and he his bringing his enthusiasm and energy with his take on the spaghetti western genre, Django Unchained. Oh, and the "D" is silent. Trust me when I say this, you will be more than satisfied after watching this trailer, which premiered on Fandango today; in fact, you may want to watch it over again. Check out the trailer here below.

The plot of the film is very simple. Django (Jamie Foxx), a former slave, teams up with a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) and journeys across America to free his wife Broomhilda (Kerry Washington) from the sadistic slave plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) [...]

E3 2012: Arkane Studios’ ‘Dishonored’ Gets A New Gameplay Trailer & Demo

Posted: 06 Jun 2012 04:15 PM PDT

Dishonored

Another game shown off at E3 was for Dishonored, the new title from developer Arkane Studios and publisher Bethesda Softworks. A brand new (and amazing) gameplay trailer was released first, followed by a demo.

As seen in the first cinematic trailer, the game offers up a Neo-Victorian setting paired with a steampunk style. It combines first-person action gameplay with stealth gameplay, and players can approach it however they see fit---whether that be through massacring anyone in your way, or without killing a single soul. [...]

Comic Review: The Spider #2

Dynamite Entertainment: The Spider #2 cover

The Spider #2
Written by David Liss
Art by Colton Worley
Letters by Simon Bowland
Covers by John Cassaday, Ron Lesser & Francesco Francavilla
The Spider created by Harry Steeger
Dynamite Entertainment
Release Date: June 6, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

Going into The Spider #2 I was concerned about Dynamite's decision to put a pulp hero in a modern day setting. After all, today's audiences are NOT used to their heroes being non super-powered. And how would the mystery of the character play out in today's world? With phones that can do literally almost anything except cook your meals, computers that can identify someone by a camera on a stoplight, and all the high tech gadgetry that goes along with that, is a guy with a hat and a gun really that big of a deal? [...]

Elvis Hologram Confirmed For Film, TV, Shows & More

Posted: 06 Jun 2012 02:45 PM PDT

Elvis Presley

Looks like a hunka hunka burning hologram is headed to various forms of media soon. The next late figure (victim?) to be lined up ala Tupac with this disturbing and headshaking new trend of resurrecting dead icons via holographic images is the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley.

Yahoo news reports that Digital Domain Media Group announced today that it has gotten the greenlight from the Presley estate to create a hologram of the iconic musical legend for television, films, shows, and other projects worldwide, including appearances as well. No further details have been mentioned, but the mind boggles at the campy possibilities of this, Elvis side by side with Tom Jones perhaps? A guest appearance on True Blood*? One of The Three Stooges if they make a theatrical sequel? The list of opportunities is endless [...]

E3 2012: New Gameplay Trailer & Demo From ‘Tomb Raider’ Reboot Revealed

Posted: 06 Jun 2012 02:04 PM PDT

Tomb Raider

Last year's E3 brought with it a peek at the video game reboot (a movie reboot is also in the works) of the Tomb Raider franchise, complete with an origins story and new look for the famed Lara Croft.

This year developer Crystal Dynamics and publisher Square Enix brought with them even more goodies from the game in the form of a brand new gameplay trailer and a demo of the game in action as you'll play it. [...]

‘Fahrenheit 451′ Author Ray Bradbury Dead At 91

Posted: 06 Jun 2012 01:16 PM PDT

Ray Bradbury

Prolific and award-winning sci-fi author Ray Bradbury passed away yesterday in Los Angeles at the age of 91 after a long illness. He is perhaps best known for his classic novels Fahrenheit 451, The Martian Chronicles, and Something Wicked This Way Comes, but Bradbury also wrote hundreds of short stories, some 47 other books, as well as screenplays, teleplays, poems, essays, plays, and, according to his website, an opera (yes, an opera!) during his illustrious 70-year career.

Bradbury inspired generations to think beyond what was put in front of us, to dream, and to create. While he eschewed such modern inventions as video games and ATMs, and purportedly hated television, he adapted 65 of his stories for a TV series called The Ray Bradbury Theater, which aired first on HBO from 1985-1986 and then on the USA network from 1988-1992.

No fan of eBooks either, Bradbury finally relented last year and allowed Fahrenheit 451 to be published in ebook format, which we wrote about here [...]

Michael Bay Confirms ‘Transformers 4′ Will Be His Last For The Film Franchise

Posted: 06 Jun 2012 12:30 PM PDT

Michael Bay

So just in case you haven't had your fill of Transformers with three major features and a ride that recently opened at Universal Studios Hollywood, there is the forthcoming movie that is to be directed by Michael Bay. The director, who helmed the first three Transformers movies, will be coming back for a fourth and final time. At least it will be the final time.

Bay, who gave the LA Times a few details about the fourth untitled Transformers movie, mentioned that there will be new designs, a new cast, and that it will be the set up for the next director who helms the next wave of Transformers films. Because let's face it, there is going to be more [...]

Watch The Hilarious First Trailer For Disney’s Arcade Movie ‘Wreck-It Ralph’

Posted: 06 Jun 2012 12:01 PM PDT

Wreck-It-Ralph

As an avid fan of classic coin-op arcades, nothing got me more excited than hearing that Disney was working a movie based on the world of the coin-op games. The film titled Wreck-It Ralph was announced to those who attended the D23 Expo last year, and even though the film was in the early stages of development, the concept art for the film looked amazing. Then there was the comedic cast that would be lending their voice talents for the film. Now we got the first teaser for Wreck-It Ralph and you can watch it below.

Before the movie footage starts we get a short introduction from the voice of Wreck-It Ralph himself, John C. Reilly. The trailer gives a somewhat short synopsis of the life of Ralph who is a video game character tired of doing the same villainy for the past 30 years. A lot of the it features the concept art that was seen at the D23 Expo come to life.: The jumping between worlds, Ralph hilariously being tossed over a building, and Ralph attending a villains anonymous meeting with some of video games most classic villains of the past and a few generic ones as well [...]
