The Hobbit Header

There will be no need to call Peter Jackson's conclusion to The Hobbit trilogy The Hobbit 3 any longer because its finally got a new title. Well more like its taking a title. When it was announced that there would be The Hobbit Trilogy, the third and final film had no title. Now The Hollywood Reporter is confirming that the concluding film will be titled The Hobbit: There and Back Again, while the second film will be titled The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

Those are just some of the major developments that's has been happening since it was confirmed that The Hobbit would be turned into a trilogy. Though it was earlier reported that there was no budget for the film, Warner Brothers seems to believe in Jackson, as they should, that he can give a proper adaptation [...]

Dragon*Con 2012: Photo Round-Up: Cosplay Begins!

Dragon*Con 2012: Cosplay banner

As I write this it's, 4 AM Friday so it technically is Dragon*Con Day 1. This first group of images though where taken Thursday on into the wee hours of Friday and already the costumes were in full force. As I begin covering Day 1 of Dragon*Con 2012 I can only excitedly imagine what's to come.

Check out the cosplay image gallery here below.

Dragon*Con is quite a special event. It's known as the largest fan run multigenerational event held in the southeast. Dragon*Con is different than SDCC in that it's not about breaking news about the next genre event. It is however the same because many celebrity guests appear at both shows. The difference is that at Dragon*Con the celebrities are here to truly interact with fans. At SDCC they are out to announce their next big thing then run for the secret exit. At D*C generally there are no big announcements, just stars here answering the fans' questions and interacting with the people that made them who they are [...]

Dragon*Con 2012: ‘The Guild’ Panel

Dragon*Con 2012: The Guild panel

Every year at Dragon*Con, The Guild panel always ends up being my favorite of the convention. This panel always bring tons of laughs and is suprisingly informative. This year's panel featured the entire Knights of Good cast: Felicia Day, Sandeep Parikh, Jeff Lewis, Amy Okuda, Robin Thorsen, and Vincent Caso and it was hilarious. The cast has great chemistry and good-naturedly ribbed each other and the audience through the entire event. Felicia Day moderated and immediately opened it up to a fan Q&A.

Felicia Day noted that The Guild: Season 6 just wrapped up shooting a day and a half ago and its release will come SOON. No specific release date or time-frame was specified. Also noteworthy was that Jeff Lewis' baby makes a cameo appearance in the new season and he's got another baby on the way. Congratulations from Geeks of Doom, Jeff! [...]

Countdown To Doctor Who: Netflix Review: The End Of Time

Netflix Review: The End Of Time

Doctor Who: The End Of Time Netflix Streaming DVD | Blu-ray

Produced and Written by Russell T. Davies
Starring David Tennant, Matt Smith, Bernard Cribbins, John Simm, Timothy Dalton, Billie Piper, John Barrowman, Elisabeth Sladen, Lawry Lewin, Sinead Keenan
BBC Worldwide
Originally Broadcast: December 25, 2009

It's not long too go now for the Doctor Who fans that have been waiting very patiently for the beginning of Series 7, featuring Matt Smith reprising his role as the Doctor. So, with the impending premiere about to explode with Daleks and timey-wimey stuffs, I thought it would be an appropriate selection for our Netflix Review this week to take a glance at one of the streaming features containing our favorite Time Lord: The End Of Time.

The End Of Time, fundamentally, is the bookend closing point for the Russell T. Davies and David Tennant era of the series. Matt Smith makes his first appearance at the end, with an iconic and memorable regeneration scene, but the key rationale for this adventure – an episode in two parts – is to bring many of the Davies storyline threads to a close, just before handing over to then-new producer Steven Moffat [...]

Taken 2 Header

Bryan Millis is a very special man with a very special set of skills, and when forced to use those skills, someone will most likely end up dead. Liam Neeson will reprise his role as the dedicated family man who would go to the ends of the earth to save his family in Taken 2, and a new featurette shows the special skills we didn't see in the first film.

Check out the latest featurette for Taken 2 here below.

In this non-spoiler filled featurette, Neeson details the special skills he has acquired throughout the years to protect those who need protection. That will all be put to the test when the father of one of those he killed in the first film while attempting to rescue his daughter comes seeking vengeance [...]

Beatdown

On this week's show, a court rules in favor of Apple over Samsung in a landmark patent and design lawsuit to the tune of $1 billion. Panelists Andrew Sorcini, Christopher Burnor, and guest VentureBeat staff writer Sean Ludwig discuss how this affects Apple, Samsung, the whole mobile phone ecosystem, the future of patent lawsuits, and you, the consumer.

But first, the headlines...Twitter removes friend-finding from Tumblr and removes 3rd-party plugin identification from Twitter.com, Microsoft gets a new logo, Apple delays TV device development, a landmark filesharing fine is upheld, Ask.com buys About.com from The New York Times, and President Obama visits Reddit [...]

Music Review: Stevie Ray Vaughan ‘The Real Deal Greatest Hits Volume 2′

Stevie Ray Vaughan

Stevie Ray Vaughan
The Real Deal Greatest Hits Volume 2
MP3 | CD
Originally Released: March 23, 1999
Label: Sony

Amazon MP3 is offering up some amazing $5 album deals for the month of August, so it seems like a great time to visit some classics and see how they hold up to the modern music era. That's right, you can snag Stevie Ray Vaughan The Real Deal Greatest Hits Volume 2 for $5 in MP3 format right now.

The loss of Stevie Ray Vaughan was a tragic one. He was at the forefront of a blues rock revolution that just fell apart with his death. Others such as Kenny Wayne Sheppard followed in his footsteps, but none could come close to filling his shoes. In the 1970s, guitarists such as Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, and Jimi Hendrix were responsible for integrating the classic blues riffs of Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, and Howlin' Wolf into pop music in innovative ways. Stevie Ray Vaughan picked up where these musicians left off both by crafting his own brand of modern blues music, but also by bringing on the pop blues music with songs like his most arguably mainstream title Crossfire [...]

Countdown To Doctor Who: Part 5 Of ‘Pond Life’ Leads Right Into New Series

Countdown to Doctor Who Series 7

The BBC has posted the conclusion of Pond Life, focusing on Amy (Karen Gillan), and Rory (Arthur Darvill) in the leadup to Doctor Who Series 7. You can check out the new installment below.

In the previous Pond Life, we see what happens when a surprise "Ood on the Loo" becomes part of the houshold. In Part Five, we move forward, with the Doctor (Matt Smith) leaving a phone message as he becomes concerned about his friends, the Ponds, as things are not looking too good for Amy and Rory in Pond Life [...]

Manic Manifesto: Total Recall [1990 vs. 2012]

Manic Manifesto: Total Recall

A Thesis on the implications of Total Recall and the contrast between the original film [1990] and the remake and/or reimagining [2012] by Sam C Smith.

"They stole his mind, now he wants it back."

Total Recall: Stout poster

REMINISCENCE:

It is my Star Wars. Yes, I said it. So I did what any fanboy would do: Collect.

Why bother? It's not as if Total Recall [Original will be referred to as TR, the new film hereby referred to as Total Recall] was the greatest film ever. It doesn't even feature that highly on the greatest sci-fi film list of all time. But something just stuck with me throughout the 1990s to today that I never got with Star Wars – a film series pretty much filmed and over and done with before I could afford a video player.

But consider how much more difficult it is to get original TR-based collectibles. Especially in the UK. Especially in 2012. Any fan of any age can find something Star Wars based, and that includes error-in-production Kenner figures from the 70s [...]

Skull-Face Island: Episode 06: Premium Rush/JAWS

Skull-Face Island Banner

Skull-Face Island Movie Podcast presented by Geeks Of Doom
Episode 06: Premium Rush/JAWS

Greetings! It's Adam Frazier aka FamousMonster and it's time for another transmission from Skull-Face Island. As always I'm joined by The Last Starfighter champion David Allen --- and a man of many talents, not least of which is knitting, producer Tim Grant.

If you missed our previous transmissions, let me explain how this works. In the year 1991, US Flight 1313 experienced a mysterious, magnetic anomaly somewhere over the South Pacific. Engines failed, pilots cursed and prayed to their Gods, and three boys (that's us!) washed ashore on Skull-Face Island, which of course is an ISLAND in the SHAPE of a SKULL! How cool is that!?

After exploring the dark interior of the island with machetes and bullwhips, we found an old communications array. Here's the weird thing, it still works. Not only does it work, this thing is like Netflix, Amazon Instant, Video on Demand, and Apple TV combined – it's got all the latest movies and television shows. We haven't even bothered sending out a distress signal yet because we're re-watching all 635 episodes of Gunsmoke right now.

On this week's transmission, we'll be covering all the latest movie news and take time out to discuss David Koepp's Premium Rush, as well as the recent Blu-Ray release of Steven Spielberg's 1975 classic, JAWS. We'll also introduce you to MAR-10, our faithful and somewhat insecure robot butler who cleans Skull-Face Island and entertains us with movie news. [...]

Watch Colin Farrell In The ‘Seven Psychopaths’ Red-Band Trailer

Posted: 31 Aug 2012 08:01 AM PDT

Seven Psychopaths Header

There has just been a slew of red band trailers being released this week, and now you can add Seven Psychopaths to that list. As you may have seen from the first trailer, the film centers on a down-and-out screenwriter and his two friends (Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell, and Christopher Walken) who partake in the dog kidnapping business. When one of them accidentally kidnaps the dog belonging to a emotionally unstable gangster (Woody Harrelson), the three are on the run for their lives.

Take a look at the f-bomb filled red band trailer (because that's the only reason why it is red banded) here below [...]
