Hugo Weaving Not Interested In Returning As The Red Skull In Future Marvel Movies

Posted: 15 Oct 2012 06:12 PM PDT

Very few of the Marvel Cinematic Universe villains have lived long enough to see a sequel. But one fate that is the most mysterious so far is the fate of the Red Skull. While Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki continues to live on to be a threat to Thor and The Avengers, Hugo Weaving doesn't seem to [...]

Disney Announces Release Dates For Edgar Wright’s ‘Ant-Man,’ ‘Saving Mr. Banks,’ and More

Ant-Man

It was originally thought that Disney would be releasing Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Ant-Man in 2014. That's three Marvel films in one year alone.

Well it may be one too many for one year or director Edgar Wright needs more time to work on the script after he finishes The World's End, because it has been announced that Ant-Man will be hitting theaters November 6, 2015. That's a couple of months after The Avengers 2 hits theaters. [...]

Comic Review: The Lone Ranger #10

The Lone Ranger #10

The Long Ranger #10
Written by Ande Parks

Colors by Marcelo Pinto
Letters by Simon Bowland
Cover by Francesco Francavilla
Dynamite Entertainment
Release Date: October 3, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

For the most part, The Lone Ranger #10 ends the absolutely brilliant Tonto origin story. This has been a really solid story, and what it DOESN'T do is make ticked off that the main character hasn't really been in the spotlight of the book at all. It's like a Tonto mini-series withing the pages of the title, but the story is so good, you don't mind at all.

What praise can I heap on writer Ande Parks that I already haven't? The story in this issue is great. He gives recaps of the last few issues in totally natural dialogue. This issue we get to see Tonto at odds with his own people and how he became the lone warrior that he was when he first met John Reid. It's not a feelgood story, but at the end, you'll be totally satisfied having read this great comic, and the ending promises some big time action in the near future. It's nice to see that, while separately, Tonto and The Lone Ranger work together like a well-oiled machine, when they're away from each other and on their own, they are somewhat different people, which just goes to prove that they NEED each other as partners to function as the premiere heroes of the old west. some great characterization from Parks in this issue [...]

Comic Review: The Evil Tree

Arcana Comics: The Evil Tree

The Evil TreeWritten by Eric Hendrix
Art by Daniel Thollin
Colors by Anna Sallstrom
Arcana Comics
Release Date: October 9, 2012
Cover Price: $14.95

The market for horror comics right now is brutally competitive. With books like Locke and Key, Green Wake, and Rebel Blood reinventing what can be done with a genre, competition is fierce. The Evil Tree, being an independent horror comic published by a small press, faces some challenges when stacked up against titles from Image Comics and IDW Publishing. Which is a shame. Even though The Evil Tree is a by the numbers horror story, this book's expert writing proves that there is nothing wrong with a good old fashioned ghost story.

At its core, The Evil Tree is a very simple story. It is your standard unsettled ghost haunting the living as a means to eventually rest in peace. This book's storyline is fairly cut and dry and, in this case, it is perfectly okay. Writer Erik Hendrix seems to understand that sometimes mastering a preexisting story can be more appealing than poorly tackling some high concept horror story. Why try to blow people's minds by ruminating on the human condition if you can't even get it right? [...]

Hammered

Hammered: Heavy Tales From The Hard-Rock Highway
By Kirk Blows
Plexus Publishing Ltd
Available now US | UK

In the 1980s the rock journalist's life was one of sharing long bar tabs, exotic substances, and stinging hangovers with our music heroes. Coupled with the nefarious activities conducted in the tour buses, clubs, and just about anywhere on the sunset strip, theirs was a life we would marvel at in our favourite magazines with jealous glee.

This was the life Kirk Blows lived in his 20s as a writer for the eminent rock rags Metal Hammer, Raw, Guitar magazine, and contributor of a slightly more saucy article to Penthouse on numerous occasions. Blows has talked, toked, and toiled with bands in tour buses, clubs, and hotels across the world. Hammered: Heavy Metal Tales From The Hard Rock Highway is a collection of some of his funniest, most enlightening interviews and encounters with rock stars big and small from the 1980s and '90s, presented it in all its colorful glory [...]
