Goon is one of those movies that will sneak up on you and surprise you. You see it for what seems like forever pop up in your suggestions on Netflix, and then when you finally decide to give it a shot; it hits you across the back of the head with its cleverness and its subtleties as well. Primarily a comedy film, Goon has some deep-rooted social commentary within, with a unique and noteworthy performance from Seann William Scott.

Directed by Michael Dowse, and roughly based on a true story that served as inspiration for the basis of the tale, Goon follows Doug Glatt (Scott) caught in a rut in his daily life. He feels despondent and isolated, and unconnected – the black sheep of the family, and only one buddy in the form of foul-mouthed hockey TV commentator Pat (Jay Baruchel). With a talent in fighting, Glatt goes through life as a bouncer for a local club, while passionately keeping track of his favorite sport, hockey. […]

‘Iron Man 3′ Co-Writer Drew Pearce Will Rewrite ‘Godzilla’

Gareth Edwards Godzilla

Everyone was surprised to see that Warner Bros. presented a sizzle reel for Gareth Edwards' Godzilla during San Diego Comic-Con in July. At that time film was still very much under early development. Screenwriters David Callaham (The Expendables), David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight trilogy), and Max Borenstein all contributed to the script, which the studio reportedly likes. Now Variety reports that Drew Pearce will be brought in to do the rewrites for Godzilla.

According to the report, Pearce's writing will "age up" the characters in the script. Now the question is, how young were the characters originally? How much older will they be now that Pearce is writing it? If these characters were kids, it would certainly be an interesting aspect of a story, but it would also be difficult to market to an older audience [...]

Comics Review: Ménage à Bughouse

Menage a Bughouse

Ménage à Bughouse
Written by Stephen Lafler
Art by Stephen Lafler
CO2 Comics
Release Date: June 4, 2012
Cover Price: $39.99 HC; $24.99 TPB

Steve Lafler spent twelve years (1992-2004) writing Bughouse, during which he explores so much of the characters and the world, that it can be tough to encapsulate. The book follows the virtuosic Jimmy Watts and the other members of his band, Bughouse, as they rise through Bugtown's (read: NYC) music scene during the jazz and ragtime explosions. Now, all three of the Bughouse stories - Bughouse, Baja, and Scallywags - are collected in this new omnibus from CO2 comics. Although he initially wanted to deal with the intertwinement of drug culture and the music scene, he also wants the book to be fun, and so the stories are light and breezy.

The way that Lafler deals with drug abuse is actually pretty unique in its own right. Everyone is almost laughably blunt about drugs in the book. Some sample lines of dialogue [...]

J.J. Abrams Premieres Very Brief Scene From ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ On ‘Conan’

Star Trek Into Darkness

Conan O'Brien's nightly talk show on TBS is really becoming quite the hot spot for surprise major movie announcements. Hot on the heels of Will Ferrell announcing in March that an Anchorman sequel had been given the green light for a release sometime in 2013 comes the world premiere of finished footage from one of next summer's hotly-anticipated motion picture events.

Last night J.J. Abrams stopped by Conan to discuss, among other things, his upcoming film Star Trek Into Darkness, the long-awaited sequel to his blockbuster 2009 reboot of the continuing voyages of the starship Enterprise, Star Trek. During the interview Abrams surprised O'Brien and sidekick Andy Richter with the news that he had wanted to bring with him the first footage from the movie to premiere on the show. Unfortunately Paramount Pictures had a slight problem with that, but after Abrams' insistence the studio relented, but only on the condition that Abrams limit the footage shown to just three frames of film.

You can watch the video here below. The actual scene begins - and ends - at the 1:50 mark. [...]

"I don't want to be buried in a Pet Sematary, I don't want to live my life again." - The Ramones

From director Tim Burton (Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands) comes Frankenweenie, an eerie, albeit heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog.

Based off Burton's own 1984 live-action short film (which starred Daniel Stern and Shelley Duvall), Frankenweenie is a gothic, black-and-white love letter to Universal Studio's classic horror pictures, including James Whale's 1931 film, Frankenstein.

After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor Frankenstein (Charlie Tahan) harnesses the blasphemous power of science to bring his best friend back to life. A few bolts of lightning later, Sparky's his old self again - with a few modifications, of course. Sparky's a patchwork of skin and stitches now, complete with those iconic Boris Karloff bolts in his neck [...]

Listen To Adele’s Sultry James Bond Theme Song ‘Skyfall’

Skyfall Title

Ever since Daniel Craig became James Bond, the Bond theme songs have been so-so. Granted, there's only been two songs, but the Jack White and Alicia Keys duet for Quantum of Solace was less than stellar. This time around, MGM and EON Productions have chosen soon-to-be music icon Adele to sing the theme for Skyfall. Now with the film just a few weeks away from its UK release, we are getting our first listen to Adele's brand new song for the highly anticipated film. We have the player, you just have to listen. Check out the song here below.

The song is sexy, sultry, and smooth, and there are hints of Bond's main theme layered within it. Powered by some awesome vocals, "Skyfall" is a great song to listen to. Skyfall opens in theaters in the UK on October 26 and the U.S. on November 9th, with IMAX shows on the 8th [...]
