The mini-series R.I.P.D.: City of the Damned is a prequel to the new movie R.I.P.D., which is currently set for release on July 19, 2013. The concept behind the story is that a select few who died are chosen to work for the "Rest In Peace Department." The job is simple, chase down and kill any evil soul that's managed to stay on earth longer than its supposed to have.

Roy Pulsipher dies and is asked to join the R.I.P.D. to find out why in the last century there hasn't been any overflow of souls trying to hide on earth longer than they should. His partner is Crispin Mather, who from the looks of it, may have been a puritan and has signed on for another 100 years of service. [...]

Samuel L. Jackson & Anne Hathaway Debate Whether ‘Les Miserables’ Or ‘Django Unchained’ Is More Sad

Samuel L. Jackson & Anne Hathaway In A Sad Off

The holiday season usually brings cheer and glee to family and friends, but if you are planning to see a new movie on that day, then you will probably be slapped with some sad stories. That's because both Les Miserables and Django Unchained open on that day, and both films have rather depressing stories.

So the team at Funny or Die brought Anne Hathaway and Samuel L. Jackson, actors who starred in the two films, to a competition to prove which film is more sad. Check it out below. [...]

‘Pain & Gain’ Trailer: Mark Wahlberg Wants More Out Of Life Than Lifting Weights

Pain and Gain Image

Remember when Bad Boys came out? It was a cop action comedy filled with action, explosions, sweat, and extreme close ups. Well Pain and Gain looks like it is more or less of the same, but it still looks like Michael Bay got what he wanted after he said that the film would be his passion project.

The first trailer for Pain and Gain has now been released, and you can check it out below.

Based on magazine articles written by Pete Collins, Mark Wahlberg plays a body builder who wants more out of life than pumping weights and chugging protein shakes. [...]

Comic Review: Blackacre #1

Release Date: December 5th, 2012
Price: $2.99

Blackacre #1 from Image Comics is best described as a futuristic version of Apocalypse Now, and takes the apocalypse part of the title to heart. The first issue establishes the background of the titular Blackacre community, a town of the future established by a group of wealthy individuals just as the rest of society was crumbling around them. Most of the issue is spent on world building and introducing the reader to a certain Captain Hull, who by issues end is sent into the wild to find a rogue former agent of Blackacre.

Like I said, most of the issue is spent showing the reader what the nature of the world is and also who Hull is. There's a little bit of action, but it's more about the world building. Which is good and all, but I wonder if a bit of the world building could have been skipped or shortened. All the talking slows down the issue by a great deal and makes this a bit of a chore to read. On the other hand, some of this world building is needed, and I like a fantasy/sci-fi world that is well researched. There just needs to be more balance in the second issue. [...]

$5 MP3 Album Deal: Curtis Mayfield ‘Superfly’ Original Soundtrack Recording

Posted: 19 Dec 2012 02:30 PM PST

Superfly, the soundtrack to one of the most memorable films from the early 1970s "blaxploitation" era and containing music written and produced by the late, great R&B/funk legend Curtis Mayfield, is now available on MP3 format from Amazon this month for only $5.00 as part of their 100 albums for $5 each deal.

Released originally over 40 years ago, Superfly remains more than just a curious curio from that genre where tough dialogue, almost miniscule budgets, and realistic gritty cinematography, along with liberal dashes of sex and violence, were large orders of the day. It's a nice cornerstone of a soundtrack, taking the reins where the equally memorable musicality for Shaft left off about a year earlier. [...]
