New ‘Godzilla’ To Be Helmed By ‘Monsters’ Director Gareth Edwards

Posted: 04 Jan 2011 10:28 PM PST

Director Gareth Edwards made quite the climb into the public eye in 2010, and he's beginning 2011 off in epic fashion.

Edwards is know for making the indie alien invasion film, Monsters, which was produced with only a few people on the cast and crew, and with a tiny budget (though bigger than what was once said to be only around $15,000). The movie made the festival rounds and caught a lot of attention for its look and special effects on such a minuscule budget, and now Edwards is getting major attention from bigger studios.

It's being reported that Edwards is set to lock up a deal with Legendary Pictures, the banner behind The Dark Knight, 300, and Inception, to direct their brand new re-imagining of classic movie beast, Godzilla. Legendary acquired the rights to the famed Japanese creature in 2010 and has since been putting things together with hopes of releasing their movie at some point in 2012. The hiring of Edwards is the first major ingredient, sure to be followed quickly with a writer and various castings. [...]

Geek Peek: Andrew Garfield As Peter Parker & Emma Stone As Gwen Stacy In ‘Spider-Man’

Posted: 04 Jan 2011 09:18 PM PST

Some spy images from the set of Sony Pictures and Columbia Pictures reboot of their Spider-Man franchise have shown up online.

Nothing worth going wacky over in these pictures, but if you're excited about this new Spidey venture and the castings that have been announced so far, these might be for you. They show star Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy sitting in some bleachers at what looks like a high school football field. This is the first look at Garfield as Parker and well...it looks like Andrew Garfield hanging out on some bleachers, so perhaps not the best look we'll get.

You can see some of the first pictures of Garfield and Stone in director Marc Webb's Spider-Man by clicking on over to the other side now (more can be found at the source link below). There's even one of the duo sharing a smooch, you know, for you lovey-dovey type movie fans that are into that sorta thing. [...]

New Edition Of Mark Twain’s ‘Adventures of Huckleberry Finn’ Removes The N-Word

Posted: 04 Jan 2011 08:05 PM PST

Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

Next month will see the release of NewSouth Books' Mark Twain's Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn: The Texts of His Companion Boy Books, which collects the two 19th century classics and revises them to remove an offensive word that, for years now, has been the cause of protests against teaching the books in schools.

The word?: 'nigger.*'

In NewSouth's edition, which was revised by Mark Twain scholar Dr. Alan Gribben, all instances the word 'nigger' have been replaced by the word 'slave', as has the word 'injun', a derogatory term for Native Americans.

Gribben, who is passionate about Twain's works, told Publishers Weekly he's not trying to render these works "colorblind," but that "Race matters in these books. It's a matter of how you express that in the 21st century." [...]

Cast Photo For MGM’s ‘Red Dawn’ Remake Surfaces

Posted: 04 Jan 2011 06:24 PM PST

The first image of the cast of MGM's '80s movie remake, Red Dawn, has shown up online. It's unclear where the picture comes from, when it was taken, or how official it is, but it's definitely the cast dressed for the part.

In the picture you'll see some of the stars like Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, Edwin Hodge, and Alyssa Diaz as they do their best to mirror stars of the original movie like Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, Leah Thomson, Jennifer Grey, and C. Thomas Howell.

You can check out the image of the new cast of Red Dawn as well as an old image from the original for comparison by clicking on over to the other side now!

As many of you know, MGM has faced many financial troubles lately, so no one knows exactly when Red Dawn will be released. But unlike the fear that movies like The Hobbit or the next James Bond would never happen, it's said that this one is already completed for the most part -- just needs to be released. [...]

First Peek At Epic New Starz King Arthur Series ‘Camelot’

Posted: 04 Jan 2011 04:19 PM PST

It's a fantastic time to be alive for those of us who feed off TV/movies/games that are set in a time where cars and technology and guns were nonexistent, and people survived by the blade of their sword, the gallop of their horse, and the light of a flame. This is especially true when it comes to TV, where these types of shows weren't very common.

Now, in a time where the best TV series you can see are on par with (if not better than) the best Hollywood movies being made, we're beginning to see many more titles in this genre. These types of shows can be found on channels like HBO, Showtime, and Starz, and they don't restrict or censor their content. Almost anything goes, all is fair, and it's some of the grittiest, graphic, and most realistic content we as viewers could ask for. It's hard to even watch regular TV anymore!

Recent and current titles that have fit this mold include HBO's Rome, Showtime's The Tudors, and Starz' Spartacus: Blood and Sand (as well as their mini-series, The Pillars of the Earth), and it does not end there. [...]

Jack Black & Kyle Gass Working On New Tenacious D Album; Second Movie Possible

Posted: 04 Jan 2011 01:05 PM PST

Oh yes! Fans of the D can now buzz with excitement with official word of a brand new album in the works.

While talking to Spinner, Jack Black revealed that he and Kyle Gass, who fused together long ago to create their band Tenacious D, are indeed working on some new music. Black said "We're in the middle of recording it. We're about halfway through the writing process. We need another few months. But you can look for it at the end of 2011."

Since Black has skyrocketed to fame there's been a lot less Tenacious D going on, with appearances here and there as well as the occasional concert. The last time we saw them on a large scale was in 2006 when their long-awaited movie, Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny, finally hit theaters. The movie was loved by faithful fans but didn't fare so well at the box office, costing $20 million to make but only bringing back $13.9 million worldwide. [...]

Steven Moffat Gives Clues For ‘Sherlock’ Season 2

Posted: 04 Jan 2011 06:58 AM PST

Sherlock

Writer Steven Moffat spoke with The Guardian about the anticipated returns of two hit BBC shows: Doctor Who and Sherlock.

The writer, who took over as show runner for the fifth season of Doctor Who from Russell T. Davies, was tight-lipped about details of the sixth season, which sees the return of Matt Smith as the eleventh Doctor. Instead, he mainly spoke about the pressure and expectations on him to do well with the series.

While he didn't spill any information about the upcoming sixth season of Doctor Who, he did give some clues as to what to expect for Season 2 of Sherlock.

"You can have three words to work from," he laughs. "Adler, Hound, Reichenbach. Those are your clues." [...]
