Has Marvel Decided To Replace Edward Norton’s Hulk With An Unknown In ‘The Avengers’?

Posted: 09 Jul 2010 10:50 PM PDT

If reports coming out of the HitFix camp are accurate, then yes it's true: Marvel Studios has decided not to use Edward Norton as the Hulk in their blockbuster to end all other blockbusters, The Avengers. It also sounds like it's in Marvel's strategy guide to replace the veteran actor will a complete unknown for the part.

For as long as the movie has been on the way, the wild card has been Norton. The actor played Bruce Banner, the man with a colossal green inner-self, in 2008's The Incredible Hulk, and it was widely thought that he and the movie were a redeeming effort for Ang Lee's 2003 strikeout, Hulk.

At first we didn't even know if Hulk would be included in the lineup for The Avengers, but this past January Marvel chief Kevin Feige confirmed that the big fella would indeed be a part of the fun. After that, most seemed to feel that the best answer was to find a way to get Norton -- one of the few actors that they did not have locked up for multiple pictures -- back once again. [...]

Still Want To Be A Doctor? James Cameron Pockets $350 Million For ‘Avatar’

Posted: 09 Jul 2010 05:23 PM PDT

This news is so very incomprehensible, you might just find yourself staring at the numbers for an hour or two before coming out of a shock-induced coma.

It's no secret that Avatar was the biggest movie that this or any other world has ever seen (maybe...I hear Omicron Persei 8 is remaking Bikini Party Summer). With a budget somewhere in the $250 million to $300 million budget, the risk was unheard of and failure would have been of cataclysmic proportions. But we should all know by now that James Cameron knows best, and he's about to have a very good day because of it.

Avatar went on to destroy the box office and all records in its path. Before we knew it, the only significant record left was Cameron's other dominant force, Titanic, and its untouchable $600 million domestic gross bar-setter. Avatar not only touched that record but assaulted it, now sitting $150 million past previous record...and with a special theatrical re-release still to come in August, no less. [...]

Second Teaser Trailer For Facebook Movie ‘The Social Network’ Released

Posted: 09 Jul 2010 04:01 PM PDT

No one knows how good David Fincher's movie about the creation and evolution of one of the world's most popular websites, Facebook. But with the release of a second teaser trailer today, one this is for sure: they sure know how to promote The Social Network.

The movie, based on Ben Mizrich's book The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius, and Betrayal, tells the story of Facebook founders Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin and how their vision turned into a social networking phenomenon, as well as all of the drama that came with it. The movie stars Jesse Eisenberg as Zuckerberg and newly-crowned Spider-Man Andrew Garfield as Saverin.

Continue on over to the other side to check out the second teaser trailer for The Social Network now!

Much like the first teaser trailer, this one is also very simple-yet-effective. It's basically just a conversation between those involved in the Facebook explosion, but it really sets a cool tone for the movie. [...]

‘X-Men: First Class’ Cast Update; Kevin Bacon To Play Villain?

Posted: 09 Jul 2010 02:51 PM PDT

The cast for Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of the comic book series X-Men: First Class has been moving at a furious pace lately, with new announcements and rumors popping up left and right.

Things began with a couple of big bangs with the announcements that James McAvoy would be playing a young Professor Xavier and Michael Fassbender would be playing a young Magneto.

After that, casting moved on to the actors who would be taking on youthful versions of many popular X-Men characters. We first heard that Benjamin Walker would be playing Beast in the movie, but that has since changed when he decided it would be better to stick with playing Andrew Jackson on Broadway. Interesting choice, no doubt. It has since been revealed that Nicholas Hoult would be taking his place in the role. Hoult has appeared in movies like About a Boy, Clash of the Titans, and the upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road. [...]

Drumroll Please: The Title For ‘Saw 7′ Will Rival ‘5nal Destination’

Posted: 09 Jul 2010 01:58 PM PDT

There was once a time when you might have thought that the two top current rival horror franchises were Saw and Final Destination. After a decade or so the deadly duo are still going head-to-head, only now it's to determine who can come up with the absolute worst possible title for their latest installments. And as you can plainly see for yourself, both are making a valiant effort in obtaining the crown.

At the end of June, it was revealed that the title for the new Final Destination would actually be 5nal Destination. So what could the title of the latest chapter in Jigsaw killer saga be? It could and apparently will be Saw 3D: The Traps Come Alive. Even better -- this news from Shock Till You Drop has been confirmed by Lionsgate themselves.

The seventh Saw is supposedly going to be the last, and it returns Carey Elwes' Dr. Gordon character into the mix. It also stars Sean Patrick Flanery and Tobin Bell, of course. [...]

First Official Trailer For Robert Rodriguez’s ‘Machete’ Released

Posted: 09 Jul 2010 12:54 PM PDT

The first official trailer for Robert Rodriguez's grindhouse flick Machete has safely landed on the internet. The movie was born from Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's dual-effort, Grindhouse, where Machete made a cameo as one of the many faux trailers used to set the tone as an old school double feature.

The movie is co-directed by Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis, and tells the story of a Mexican Federale gun (or blade)-for-hire who's brought in to do a job that turns out to be a major setup. Eventually he recovers and sets off for bloody revenge. What more do you need than that, really?

Continue on over to check out the trailer now.

The likely cult-classic-in-the-making stars Danny Trejo as Machete, and he's joined by a great supporting cast that includes Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Steven Seagal, Michelle Rodriguez, Cheech Marin, Jeff Fahey, Lindsay Lohan, and Don Johnson.

And is it just me, or does the trailer say "introducing Don Johnson"? Has he been gone that long already?

Machete will open fire on theaters this September 3, 2010. [...]

‘Batman 3′ To Start Filming Next April

Posted: 09 Jul 2010 09:33 AM PDT

Digital Spy is reporting that Batman 3, the sequel to The Dark Knight, will start filming in April 2011.

They got this juicy bit of news while talking to Sir Michael Caine about his new film Inception, directed by Christopher Nolan. Check the video below to see the scoop for yourself. Caine plays Alfred the butler in the current Nolan-directed Batman movies.

So if they are planning to begin shooting in less than a year, one can only assume that most of the details related to the film are finalized, or close to it.

Back in May, Warner Bros revealed that the third Batman movie would be released on July 20, 2012.

Let's bust out the theories. Who's going to be the villain? Who will play them? Will the Batman voice get any better than the last movie? (God I hope so!) Hit up the comments with what you think we'll see, or what you hope we'll see [...]

Geek Peek: Jeff Bridges Does His Best John Wayne On The Set Of ‘True Grit’

Posted: 09 Jul 2010 08:58 AM PDT

Some pictures from the set of Joel Coen and Ethan Coen's upcoming western, True Grit, have found their way onto the internet.

These images, taken from across the street of where filming was taking place, focus mainly on recent Oscar winner Jeff Bridges. Bridges is of course taking on the role of Rooster Cogburn, which is the character made famous by the legendary John Wayne in the 1969 film. This new movie will not be a remake of that film, but it will actually be a new adaptation of the classic 1968 Charles Portis novel of the same name.

Not too much is going on in the pictures, but it's cool to see Bridges as Rooster Cogburn, eye patch and all. You can also catch a peek at young Hailee Steinfeld, who plays the lead role of Mattie Ross. Be sure to click on over to the other side to check them out now, and head here for more set pics. [...]

Death Is Coming to ‘Action Comics’ This Fall

Posted: 09 Jul 2010 07:04 AM PDT

Comic book fans will be surprised this October with the release of Action Comics #894.

The issue will have a guest appearance by the character Death from Neil Gaiman's beloved Vertigo comic book series Sandman.

According to DC Comics, Action Comics writer Paul Cornell thought of the idea himself to bring Death into the issue and then got approval by Gaiman, who he said has been supportive of bringing Death and Lex Luthor face to face. This big move is part of a huge story arc for Action Comics where Lex Luthor will not only go against people he is used to, but other characters he has never met before.

DC had very limited information about the storyline, but they did reassure that way they use Death "will be true to the spirit of what has gone before." [...]
