If you don't get this reference, I implore you to immediately watch one of the greatest movies ever, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

Lars Ulrich From Metallica Cast In Role For HBO Movie

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 05:01 PM PDT

Metallica

I honestly don't know how to take this news. But here it is... Lars Ulrich, co-founder and drummer of Metallica, the man that fans either love to hate or hate to love or some variation thereof, has been cast in a film. Yep, that's right; Ulrich is stepping up into acting having been cast in the HBO movie, Hemingway and Gellhorn.

Hemingway and Gellhorn is a biopic being executive produced by James Gandolfini (Mr. Soprano himself!) and directed by Phil Kaufman. The HBO film will focus on the romance and marriage between Ernest Hemingway (portrayed by Clive Owen) and Martha Gellhorn (portrayed by Nicole Kidman). The plot will follow the two through the Spanish Civil War and afterwards.

Also included in the casting are Molly Parker, Parker Posey, and Peter Coyote [...]

‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’ Director David Slade To Develop ‘Daredevil’ Reboot

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 03:50 PM PDT

Another of the insta-reboots (along with new takes on Spider-Man and Fantastic Four) currently in development at various studios is Daredevil, the Marvel comic book title that was turned into a 2003 movie starring Ben Affleck for 20th Century Fox.

The '03 movie cost $78 million to make and went on to bring in about $179 million worldwide. It also faced pretty mediocre critical reception -- both being assumed reasons Fox has decided they wanted to give it another run. A reboot has been known about for a while, but the studio has now found someone to develop the project and possibly direct it, as well.

Fox has hired David Slade, who recently directed The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, to develop a brand new take on the Daredevil story. It's assumed that once everything comes together, Slade would also be the man to direct. Eclipse cost $68 million to make and went on to bring in almost $700 million worldwide. [...]

Comic Review: Outsiders #37

Outsiders, Issue 37 coverOutsiders #37
Reign of Doomsday Part 2: Doom's Day
Co-Plot and Script: Dan DiDio
Co-Plot and Art: Phillip Tan
Colorist: Pete Pantazis
Cover: Phillip Tan with Guy Major
Price: $2.99
DC Comics
Release date: March 9, 2011

Doomsday's reign of terror continues in this issue. In the Steel one-shot, Doomsday defeated Steel and flew off with his body. In this issue, Outsiders #37, Steel is nowhere to be found. In this book, Doomsday's primary target appears to be Eradicator. Steel and Eradicator were both replacement Supermen in the aftermath of Doomsday's first battle with Superman, so there may be a pattern forming. Currently, the Outsiders have been split into two teams. Doomsday battles Geo Force's team, which includes Eradicator, Katana, Halo, Looker, and The Olympian. Unsurprisingly, Doomsday easily defeats this team. The Olympian and The Eradicator do the most damage, but they also fall. The Olympian reminds me of Marvel Comics' Hercules character. He is very proud and boastful and makes elegant speeches while fighting. This character is very interesting, and I hope someone at DC finds a use for him soon, because Outsiders is slated to be canceled after issue #40 [...]

Geoff Johns Says ‘Sandman’ TV Series Is Still Happening

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 08:10 AM PDT

Sandman

Sandman is one of those comic book series that has been in development Hell for years. Back September it was reported that a television series was finally set to happen on CW with Supernatural creator Eric Kripke set to produce the show.

Earlier this week, Kripke said (via THR) that the series is on hold at least for this season: "Unfortunately, for a lot of varying reasons, Sandman is not in the works, at least for this season," He continued from the red carpet prior to the Supernatural panel at PaleyFest Sunday, "just didn't quite happen this season through nobody's fault, and hopefully we can do it again in the future." You'd think these comments would have put the nail in Sandman's coffin right?

Just when things looked their darkest, comic book maestro Geoff Johns posted some statments on Twitter that go completely against Kripke's comments. He reassures fans that he and Sandman creator Neil Gaiman are in fact moving forward on the Sandman television series [...]
