Andy Serkis had many people screaming for him to be nominated for an Academy Award for his performance capture work as the creature Gollum in director Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy. He also went on help Jackson bring to life the most realistic and personality-filled King Kong we've ever seen using the same performance capture techniques.

Now Serkis has rejoined Jackson for the two-part adaptation of The Hobbit, which has now begun filming in New Zealand. But becoming Gollum once again will not be all that the actor is doing this time around. It's being reported that Serkis will be used as Jackson's second unit director on the film.

This isn't the first time the actor will take on a job "behind the camera," if you will. Along with motion capture and voice work on the video games Heavenly Sword and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, he also acted as a dramatic director and a story writer as well. [...]

Real Or Fake: Gamer Takes On 4 ‘Super Mario’ Speedruns At Once

Posted: 06 Apr 2011 10:31 AM PDT

Speedruns are an impressive feat. They involve taking classic video games -- games that are worlds harder than today's fare, with a restricted number of lives to deal with and so on -- and sprinting through as fast as possible in an attempt to beat it in record time.

One of the more popular games to speedrun is of course Super Mario Bros.. With hidden secrets tucked away, those knowledgeable enough can make their way through in shocking times. But one gamer decided he wanted to try and outdo even the best speedrunners...by playing multiple titles at the same time.

The player, known on YouTube as agwawaf, set up not only Mario Bros. but also Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, and even Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, and then beat them all together. But is it a real accomplishment or are we being fooled?

Continue on below now to see the video for yourself and share your thoughts on how he did it or how legit it might be. [...]

Doctor Who

Following WonderCon 2011, we are launching not one, but TWO episodes of TARDISblend this week! The promotions and publicity for Doctor Who Series 6 is moving full speed ahead, with many revelations, news items, rumors, spoilers, and other stuff abound. Co-host Tom Cheredar was on assignment for Geeks of Doom at WonderCon this year and got to catch up with both Toby Haynes and Neil Gaiman.

For episode 21 of the TARDISblend podcast, we focus on Tom's interview with living legend Neil Gaiman, as he discusses his writing of the fourth episode of Doctor Who Series 6, enigmatically titled The Doctor's Wife. While Gaiman remains mostly elusive about specific details about his episode, he does discuss a lot about his experience in working with Steven Moffat. Following the interview, Greg and Tom discuss the rumors and spoilers surrounding The Doctor's Wife, including the footage shown at WonderCon involving an Ood and... Time Lords?

In addition, we take a look at the developments in the world of Torchwood: Miracle Day, which is scheduled to premiere in July. We examine the teasers and promo material being published and pushed out currently by BBC Worldwide and Starz USA, and discuss how things come to pass to set up the scene for Miracle Day.
